BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY
The V-Word
By Mike Huckabee
When talking about all the socialistic, economically suicidal policies of the current Democrat Party leaders, the media try to prevent any mention of the “V”-word: “Venezuela.” Pointing out the disastrous, freedom-crushing, economy-killing results of socialism in Venezuela just isn’t cricket. Why, it’s “whataboutism!”
Or it’s an incredibly valuable cautionary tale, as so many Venezuelans who fled to America have been trying to warn us. And here’s an example you might not have heard about that sounds eerily familiar: what happened in Venezuela after dictator Hugo Chavez got rid of any pesky constitutional roadblocks by expanding the nation’s Supreme Court from 20 to 32 Justices.
Bravo: The Heritage Foundation turns down Big Tech money
By Mike Huckabee
A big salute to the Heritage Foundation, for refusing to be bought. The conservative think tank rejected donations of $150,000 from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and $225,000 from Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Click the link to read the scathing letters Heritage Foundation president Kay Coles sent to the two tech moguls, explaining why they could not accept money from companies that “repeatedly and blatantly” target conservative speech.
Fresh examples of government tyranny
By Mike Huckabee
This outrageous incident where police barged in and interrupted a Good Friday service in a church because of COVID rules happened in the UK, so it could be taken as yet another lesson on why it’s so important to protect our First Amendment (also why it was a great thing that our Founders fought a revolution to separate from Britain, which also gives us the blessed freedom not to have to listen to anything the royal family members say, hint-hint.)
Canada has also given us some even closer examples of government tyranny over religious rights, such as jailing a pastor for refusing to restrict his church’s capacity to a ridiculous 15%, even though they were taking every possible safety precaution. That pastor said there’s empirical evidence that the lockdowns were causing more harm than good, and explained, “I’m doing what I’m doing in obedience to Christ. I am quite content to let the Lord Jesus Christ himself decide whether or not this is persecution. He promises that those who are persecuted for his namesake will be blessed. He’s the one that blesses, and I’m content to leave that in His court.”
But he was downright meek compared to the pastor in this MUST-SEE video that went viral, racking up millions of views in just 48 hours.
When some cops enforcing strict COVID laws tried to interrupt the Passover service at Calgary’s Street Church in Alberta, Polish Pastor Artur Paw?owski dealt with them much like the way Jesus dealt with the moneychangers.
He repeatedly called them Nazis and Gestapo and ordered them out until they actually backed down and left. He shouted after them, “Nazis are not welcome here. And don’t come back without a warrant…Do not come back, you Nazi psychopaths!...Unbelievable, sick, evil people intimidating people in a church during the Passover, you Gestapo, Nazi Communist fascists.”
He then told his congregation, “Can you imagine those psychopaths, Passover, the holiest Christian festival in the year, and they’re coming to intimidate Christians during the holiest festival? Unbelievable! What is wrong with those sick psychopaths?”
Incidentally, he’s not afraid of being arrested, because he not only has Jesus on his side, he has the law. In Canada, it’s a criminal offense to interrupt a church service.
Granted, his rhetoric might have been a bit overheated, but it shows that many Christians are fed up with discriminatory state encroachments on religious freedom under the guise of public safety. Unfortunately, even here in America over the past year, we’ve been remiss in not protecting our First Amendment freedoms as strongly as we should.
While it was prudent to observe strict COVID safety rules, particularly during the early days of the pandemic and before there were multiple vaccines, there’s no question that many state and local governments wildly overstepped their powers in blatantly discriminatory ways. The Supreme Court had to slap them down for declaring liquor stores to be “essential businesses” while ordering churches closed, and imposing limits on churches that were never required of Walmart and other stores, and even on church services held outdoors.
There is a middle ground between observing reasonable safety measures and allowing the state to crush our right to worship, even on the holiest of days like Good Friday or Easter. If a church is observing public safety precautions no stricter than those imposed on other gathering places, then they are perfectly justified in standing up for their Constitutional rights to assemble and to worship. And if the police want to come to a service, then they're more than welcome. Just show up on time and sit quietly until it's over.
The Propaganda War to end the Senate Filibuster
By Mike Huckabee
TheNewNeo blog makes some great points about the egregious lies being told by the Democrats about Georgia’s new election integrity laws and how so many big corporations are caving to the false leftist narrative to support it. As she notes, when Biden himself referred to “what they’re doing in Georgia and 40 other states,” he was admitting that more than 4/5ths of America’s states think we need stricter laws to insure an honest and trustworthy vote.
She makes the case that all of this nonsense about showing an ID to vote suppressing black turnout is just propaganda and cover for the real plan: to do away with the Senate filibuster and ram through an unconstitutional federal takeover of elections that legalizes vote fraud over the objections of 4/5ths of the states (and even black Americans, about 70% of whom support voter ID laws), to try to cement their one-party power.
This is why, no matter how many times the lies they’re telling about Georgia are exposed and debunked, they just keep repeating them. The goal isn’t really to change Georgia. It’s to distract you with Georgia while they change America.
MLB retreats to Colorado
By Mike Huckabee
Major League Baseball did its virtue-signaling by pulling the All-Star Game out of Atlanta (costing that Democrat stronghold $100 million in tourist revenue) and will reportedly announce today that it will be played in Denver, Colorado. Colorado has one of the few mail-in ballot programs, and the Democrat Governor brags that it’s the “gold standard” of voting systems. But it’s not without critics, and Republicans in the legislature have introduced bills to tighten election security.
But it wasn’t as if MLB had a lot of states to choose from. They had to find another state with less restrictive voting laws than Georgia or else they’d look like giant hypocrites. And guess what? Most states have voting laws as strict or stricter than Georgia, even Biden’s home state of Delaware.
They also had to find a state willing to put up with an arrogant leftist sports league that expects local taxpayers to build them stadiums then takes their balls and goes home if they don’t like the laws passed by the representatives of those same taxpayers. And some states are getting fed up with that.
Sen. Marco Rubio thinks if you’re going to virtue-signal, then you’d better go all the way. So he’s calling on the MLB Commissioner to give up his membership in the Augusta National Golf Club.
Finally, leave it to the satirical site The Babylon Bee to come up with the perfect place for MLB to hold their All-Star Game, a place that must really share their values: communist China…
