President Biden To Address Congress
By Mike Huckabee
Tonight, President Biden will finally give his long-delayed first joint address to Congress. He’s expected to announce a massive and expensive expansion of government programs and extension of COVID-19 relief measures, some through 2025 (how long does he think this pandemic is going to last?)
Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn pretty well summed up the expectations of Republicans by predicting that Biden will push a far-left litany of issues that will “change the way people live their lives on a day-to-day basis,” and he’ll “act like everybody agrees with him, and that if you don't, something’s wrong with you.”
When you hear about all the wonderful ways the government is going to “help” you, remember that it comes with a multi-trillion-dollar price tag, and there’s no way that taxing “the rich and corporations” is going to cover it all. Be warned that this is the latest proposal percolating in Democrats’ fevered heads: soaking the middle class by imposing huge tax increases on estates (which includes family farms and family-owned businesses) and appreciation of real estate (taking a big chunk of the money when you sell your house for more you paid for it 40 years ago.)
And just to warn you further: this is the kind of thing they’ll try to sneak through the Senate as a filibuster-proof “budget reconciliation” bill, so there’s no way for Republicans to stop it. Only resistance from Democrats can prevent it. So if you’re in a red or purple state with a Democrat Senator, you should probably let him or her know what you think about financing socialism via the death tax.
Tulsi Gabbard Stands Up To Today's Divisive Political Climate
By Mike Huckabee
Speaking of the rare voices of reason who bravely stand up against the nasty divisiveness of today’s political climate, former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard recently posted a terrific video on Twitter.
Rep. Gabbard has been my guest on my TBN show, and while our political positions differ, I love interviewing her because she’s a thoughtful, intelligent and gracious person who believes in having discussions of issues with mutual respect. In her latest Twitter video, she shames politicians and media figures who try to gin up hatred by urging “us to constantly focus on our skin color or the skin color of others because it helps them politically or financially.”
She says, “Please, please, let us stop the racialization of everyone and everything. It’s racialism. We are all children of God and therefore family in the truest sense, no matter our race or ethnicity. This is Aloha. And this is what our country and world need.”
She describes the Hawaiian concept of Aloha as “respect and love for others. It’s what enables us to see beyond our skin color and see the soul, the person within. So let’s do our best to cultivate this Aloha in our hearts and see and treat others through this prism of love, not through the prism of race and ethnicity…Please, let us not allow ourselves to be led down this dark and divisive path of racialism and hate.”
Click the link to see the video, and note the very apt headline. For many years, I’ve explained that what made me admire the Rev. King and want to fight racism as a kid in the South in the 1960s was because hating someone for their skin color is a sin against God, who created us all in His image.
Rep. Gabbard is right: “racialism” may claim to be the opposite of racism, but it’s really just the other side of the same coin. It’s still a pernicious attempt to divide people and get them to judge others by their races, to allegedly fight racism by accusing everyone of a certain skin color of being a racist. It's the same poison with a different label. You can claim you’re doing it to right historic wrongs, but at no point in history have two wrongs ever made a right.
Infuriating Article
By Mike Huckabee
This is a very timely and infuriating article about how social media sites are using bogus “misinformation” charges to shut down conservative-leaning comedians and satirists – naturally, while letting the most biased, vicious (and unfunny) leftist “comedy” stand uncensored.
I hope it will encourage you to seek out some of these comedians and the new, upstart, free-speech-respecting platforms that they’re migrating to.
A Shattered Liberal Narrative
By Mike Huckabee
There’s nothing I love more than the smell of shattered liberal media narratives in the morning, so here are the results of a new Fox News poll that found that 77% of Americans support having to show an ID to vote.
The poll also found that President Biden’s handling of the pandemic is the only issue on which his approval rating (58%) is above 50% (again, he inherited the vaccines and distribution system from Trump.) On guns, border security and immigration, he’s in the mid-30s.
And in a ranking of the issues Americans care most about, the economy ranked #1, followed by gun laws, health care, infrastructure, illegal immigration and racism. Climate change was ranked last. Oh, sorry: the "climate emergency" was ranked last.
Tyler Perry Stands In The Middle
By Mike Huckabee
Our resident pop culture expert Pat Reeder watched the Oscars so you wouldn’t have to (and judging by the ratings, he was one of the few), and wrote a review yesterday. But he didn’t mention one of the few moments worth seeing, and that was Tyler Perry’s speech upon receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for all he did to help people during the pandemic.
For all the lecturing and political posturing that’s driving away awards show audiences, Perry’s speech was exactly the message that so many people have been longing to hear. His message: “Don’t hate anybody.”
Perry said he refuses to hate anyone because they’re black, white, Asian, Mexican, LGBTQ, and “I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer.” That line is already generating – guess what? – a lot of hate on Twitter.
Perry went on: “I want to take this Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and dedicate it to anyone who wants to stand in the middle, no matter what’s around the wall, stand in the middle, ’cause that’s where healing happens. That’s where conversation happens. That’s where change happens. It happens in the middle. So anyone who wants to meet me in the middle, to refuse hate, to refuse blanket judgment, and to help lift someone’s feet off the ground, this one is for you, too. God bless you, and thank you, Academy.”
It’s probably no coincidence that Perry’s positive, faith-affirming films are big hits with audiences while being savaged by liberal critics, and his studio is based in Atlanta, not Hollywood. Maybe if some of the self-congratulatory leftists in the room followed his example, viewers might have tuned in to the Oscars. They might even have actually seen some of the nominees.
Border Crisis: Harris To Visit Guatemala Border In June
By Mike Huckabee
Well over a month after being appointed to fix the mess President Biden created at the border, Vice President Kamala Harris has yet to even visit a border state. But yesterday, the White House announced that in June (!), she would visit Guatemala, to look into the “root causes” of why so many people from Central America want to come to the USA. Before leaving on her trip, I assume she also plans to reinvent the wheel.
While I certainly hope she can solve the baffling mystery of why people would rather live in the US than in Guatemala, officials in states that are currently dealing with the Biden Border Blunders aren’t buying her excuses for not coming to the actual site of the problem. For instance, one Texas lawmaker blasted her “excuse” of not coming to Texas because of COVID, when she’s “been jet-setting around this country, going to all the different blue states, talking about this infrastructure plan and everything else.”
If I might point out another reason why that’s a phony excuse: she’s been vaccinated for months!
Dems bent on stopping or discrediting AZ election audit
By Mike Huckabee
It’s been tough to find out what’s going on with the election audit in Maricopa County, the largest county in Arizona. One can imagine how mainstream "news" sources are incorporating DNC talking points and lying by omission, so we waste as little time with them as possible. Here are the facts as we’ve been able to put them together.
The Arizona state senate Republicans sponsored this audit –- which WILL NOT change the certified election results but could shed light on their accuracy –- but the state Democrat Party took to the courts to try to shut it down. Judge Christopher Coury, a Republican appointee, told the Democrats he’d halt the audit if they put up a $1 million bond to cover the cost of delaying it. Democrats declined to put up the money. A spokesperson said the reason was that they had “zero confidence” in the honesty of the outside company leading the audit, Cyber Ninjas, in reporting their increased cost.
As reported on Friday by the local NBC affiliate, 12News, “a Democratic attorney” (we’d thought this might be the infamous Marc Elias, but it appears to be another attorney, Roopali Desai} told Judge Coury that Cyber Ninjas was breaking Arizona law in the way it was handling the ballots. In a hearing set for Monday, the Republicans were supposed to demonstrate that they were following Arizona law.
By the way, here’s an example of that news outlet’s reporting: “The audit is being led, funded and supported by people with documented records of promoting the falsehood that the Arizona vote was stolen from former President Donald Trump.” Change the word “falsehood” to “allegation,” and whoever wrote this might someday be qualified to graduate from journalism school.
Anyway, it was over the weekend that things got crazy. On Sunday evening, Judge Coury suddenly recused himself from the case, and the first reports of this gave no reason. This was less than 24 hours before the court’s scheduled hearing at 11AM Monday.
In a court filing, Judge Coury said that a lawyer representing Senate Republicans’ lead auditor –- that’s Cyber Ninjas –- had worked as an ‘extern’ in his office within the last five years, and that the judicial code of conduct compelled him to therefore step aside.
In the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the noun “extern” refers to “a person connected with an institution but not living or boarding in it specifically.” And here’s a short video explaining what it is.
Some news reports are accusing Cyber Ninjas of deliberately hiring this attorney for its team to force Judge Coury to recuse. But this allegation seems to make no sense, as it ended up giving them a new judge, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Daniel Martin, who arguably might turn out to be less sympathetic than the original one, perhaps even biased against them. In fact, as reported by THE EPOCH TIMES, Judge Martin, a Democrat appointee, worked for the law firm Brown & Bain before it merged with Perkins Coie, Marc Elias’s firm, which as you’ll recall is the one that hired Fusion GPS, who hired Christopher Steele, who used bogus reports from a Russian subsource to write the anti-Trump “dossier.” Marc Elias was the attorney who went to Arizona to sue for changes in election law in advance of the 2020 election. This connection might not mean anything, but it does raise eyebrows. Why would anyone connected with this audit prefer THIS JUDGE over the first one?
At this writing (very early Wednesday morning), Judge Martin had allowed the audit to continue but said he might change his mind at the next hearing, scheduled for Wednesday.
The audit includes a hand recount in Veterans Memorial Coliseum of all 2.1 million cast in Maricopa County, Arizona, the Phoenix area, scheduled to take 19 days. There will also be an examination of the 400 tabulation machines, as well as follow-up interviews with voters, presumably to help verify that mail-in ballots come from actual voters who reside where they’re alleged to.
The Arizona secretary of state, Democrat Katie Hobbs, went on CNN Monday night and told Chris Cuomo that the audit “seems like such a farce” and should be stopped.
“A group of Republicans are continuing to try to appease their base who refuse to accept that...Trump lost Arizona and that he’s not the President anymore,” she said. She accused the auditors of “making stuff up as they go along” but gave no specifics.
She called the auditors “fake auditors” and said to Cuomo, ‘I think there was a high level of expectation that whoever had their hands on the ballots and the equipment would adhere to some level of security measures and transparency, and that clearly has not happened.” Funny, I thought “transparency” meant NOT trying to shut down a verification of the election results. But if the audit does turn up some discrepancies, that’s the argument they’ll use to cast doubt.
Cuomo said Republicans were doing this without any legal mandate, which is not true. As even Hobbs said in their interview, there were subpoenas in January from the Arizona state senate, a judge ruled in February that these were valid and must be obeyed, and Maricopa County supervisors “decided not to” appeal it. So there’s your legal mandate; read it and weep.
This is a fast-moving story, with more news breaking on the fate of the audit at some point on Wednesday. Stay tuned.
