Joe McCarthy Show Your Face

May 17, 2017

A message from Mike Huckabee:  This is a second guest blog post from Matt Wilson.  Matt is a brilliant attorney who once worked for me. I encourage you to read this post and if you haven't yet, his powerful blog about the Comey Memo here.

Sixty odd years ago, Sen. Joseph McCarthy spoke about a list of communist spies in the government. He never showed anyone that list. Reporters simply were supposed to take him at his word that the list existed and was accurate.

At least McCarthy was not an anonymous source talking to the New York Times about a secret memo that has never been published. At least our parents and grandparents could judge the veracity of McCarthy's claims by examining his personal character and reputation.

The same cannot be said of the cowardly, anonymous sources who have maligned the President of the United States by insinuating that he has committed obstruction of justice.

Folks, if you are going to resort to McCarthy like tactics, at least be like Joe and show your face.

I agree that the current hullabaloo is strangely reminiscent of the McCarthy era. Honestly, if I had been an adult during that era, I, too, would probably have been seeing red everywhere. This current kind of McCarthyism is bizarre, however, because the radical left are the witch-hunters, while during the real McCarthy era, the right were the witch-hunters, and justifiably so. There really were some blood-red traitors among us.

I am in awe of your clever rhetorical switcharoo in this post. It will leave any leftist who is fortunate enough to read it befuddled and dismayed, and maybe even partially enlightened. This is only one act in the larger play, however.

I admire your ability to control yourself and apply clever analogies that will leave the left wringing their sweaty socialist hands in frustration. My problem is getting hot under the collar when I observe the ignorant mobs rushing in to take their places on the stage for a tragic repetition of one of the bloodiest eras in human history, i.e., the French Revolution, a tragic drama that cost almost half a million lives. We need patriots with integrity, self-control, and authority to prevent such madness.

Dialing it down a notch is a wise idea. Discussing the riff-raff as a formidable foe grants the leftists a legitimacy which they relish. I agree that mockery better fits their ilk, but their overt, public violence demands a serious approach in real policy.

It's as if the whole lot of them are engaged in a re-enactment of the French Revolution. They seem to be grappling with the dilemma of who will play the part of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre, and the Jacobins, but it is obvious who is playing the part of the mob: the demon-ocrats.

I am more shocked by men like Senators McCain and Graham. I previously had the greatest respect for both

I saw some of the McCarthy hearings as news reels in theaters. Unfortunately for Senator Joe, his suspects had friends in the media. The Senator from Wisconsin was demonized by those he was investigating. Joe's investigation ended and he was discredited. Hindsight suggests Senator Joe McCarthy was on to something the rest missed or ignored. There were Communist sympathizers in our, "Deep Government", even back then.

I pray for my President!! This Country needs President Trump; a President who is not obligated to any political entities other than the American people.
