DAILY BIBLE VERSE
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:2
A preview of the Electric Vehicle future
If you think traffic jams in Southern California are a nightmare now, just wait until everyone is forced to drive an electric vehicle. As is always the case, leftist dreams of dictatorial social engineering are already starting to collide with reality. Here’s the reality: you know how a couple of cars banging into each other and blocking a lane can cause a 10-mile backup that makes you an hour late? Now, imagine the highway filled with hundreds of stalled EVs whose batteries went dead because the mileage per charge was a pie-in-the-sky lie or there was a traffic jam in a heat wave. Ponder your future, Californians.
I keep passing along hints of what’s to come, and here are a couple more.
The publisher of the website The Fast Lane Truck bought a $115,000 GM Hummer and within days, started having problems that left the SUV stranded in the middle of the highway. The only way to restart it involved a complicated procedure that required unhooking the battery to reboot the system. That’s on top of the fact that it can take up to four days to fully recharge one for an alleged 250 miles' worth of driving.
Then there were the two journalists who decided to test the Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup by driving one from the lower 48 to Alaska, which covers a lot of territory with no charging stations.
They stopped at RV campgrounds and discovered that recharging the battery from 1/5th power would take about 14 hours on a 240-volt hookup, and about five days on a 120-volt hookup. They also noted that charging an EV Hummer can take up to $100 worth of electricity on some hookups. Since the campgrounds only charge $35 a night, if enough people did that, they’d have to raise their rates considerably, which means once again that working people and retirees would be shouldering the costs of “green” Democrat voters (shades of “student loan forgiveness.”)
So maybe you’re hesitant to drop six figures on an EV, despite Gavin Newsom trying to force you. You could start small with an electric bicycle. Those are cool. But one warning, courtesy of a manufacturer’s email to a buyer, passed along to John Hinderaker at the Powerline blog:
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/10/exploding-electric-bicycles.php
If your bike has a lithium ion battery and it gets submerged in water, especially salt water, do NOT attempt to recharge it! Treat it as hazardous waste!
“Attempting to charge a compromised lithium-ion battery pack can result in a very dangerous fire that generates significant heat, toxic gases and is extremely difficult to control.”
And with an electric bike, that will be between your legs! No wonder they’re banned from airplanes.
Congratulations Aaron Judge
Congratulations to the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge for hitting his record-breaking 62nd home run in a season. And congratulations to the Dallas man who caught the historic and now-highly valued ball. Here’s your huge tax bill from the IRS.

A political goon squad
In a just world with real journalism, every major media outlet would make the outrageous indictments and FBI arrests of 11 peaceful pro-life activists a major story. They won’t, so I will. The Biden DOJ has now dropped any pretense of being a legitimate, impartial law enforcement agency, and is acting as the Administration's political goon squad, targeting any critics of the leftist anti-life agenda, no matter how benign.
The Biden Stasi wants to railroad these people into federal prison on nebulous charges like “conspiracy” and blocking access to abortion clinics in violation of the Clinton-era FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act.
To target these people, the DOJ not only had to stretch the FACE Act to the limit, they also had to reach all the way back to a “blockade demonstration” held in February of 2021. The defendants are accused of using “force and physical obstruction to injure, intimidate, and interfere with employees of the clinic and a patient who was seeking reproductive health services.” As Rick Moran at PJ Media points out, in this era of cameras everywhere, there oddly seems to be no video evidence of any of that.
Twitchy.com has a round-up of the faces and backgrounds of these scary, violent, terrorist radicals.
It’s a real rogues’ gallery of the kind-faced, the elderly and the religious; from a mom with a pet bird on her shoulder to missionaries to a cancer survivor. People who committed the unpardonable federal crime of praying outside abortion clinics and trying to talk to women going into them, to offer to arrange adoptions to save their babies. Those monsters! One is 87-year old grandmother Eva Edl, a pro-life icon and survivor of a Yugoslavian communist concentration camp. She must be wondering why she even bothered to come to America at this point.

These are the people Biden’s “Justice” Department is trying to lock away in federal prison for over a decade. Meanwhile, there have been zero arrests in the more than 50 bombings of pro-life pregnancy centers since the SCOTUS’ Dobbs decision, despite some centers giving the FBI surveillance camera footage and known radical pro-abortion groups publicly claiming credit for them and hurling death threats.
I know that conservatives, Christians and pro-life people are outraged over this assault on First Amendment rights, but I want to call out publicly the big liberal defenders of the right to protest, from AOC to Bernie Sanders. Why are you not standing up for these people’s right to free speech and peaceful protest, and loudly condemning the jackbooted abuse of power to crush dissent coming out of Biden and Merrick Garland’s DOJ?
Let’s hope some conservative legal defense group takes on their cases. The silver lining could be that the FACE Act is finally appealed to the Supreme Court and thrown out as unconstitutional, as a similar Massachusetts state law already was in McCullen v. Coakley (2014.)
Biden pardons
Thursday, President Biden issued pardons for about 6,500 people convicted on federal charges of simple possession of marijuana between 1992 and 2021.
This is a “clearing your record” move only; nobody is currently in jail on federal pot possession charges. Biden also called for a review of how marijuana is classified. Some commentators say this could lead to legalization of marijuana on the federal level (did you know that all those state legal pot dispensaries are technically still in violation of federal law?)
But I don’t know if this will actually lead to any changes in the law or not. Considering how the federal authorities don’t even enforce that law (they’re far too busy arresting dangerous domestic terrorists, like elderly pro-life activists), I can’t imagine that Congress would feel the need to take urgent action on this.
Besides, Biden’s move is mostly being taken for what it obviously is: a desperate attempt to gin up support before the midterm elections among what is now the largest demographic group that still supports the Democrats: people who are high.
A new jobs report
This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the US economy added 263,000 jobs in September, a little better than economists predicted, but still down from August’s 315,000 and July’s 528,000. It’s the lowest jobs number so far this year. Job openings also dropped 10%, from 11.1 million in August to 10 million.

Wages grew by 5% from one year ago, but since inflation is well over 8%, that meant most workers took the equivalent of a pay cut, even if they got a raise.
This story includes a chart illustrating job “growth” under Biden and how it rose, then fell. Maybe that’s because what Biden takes credit for as huge “job growth” early on in his term was just people going back to work at jobs created under Trump once the pandemic lockdowns were finally lifted. Now, after nearly two years, we’re finally seeing the actual effects on job growth of Democrat economic policies. It’s not pretty.
In a related story, the midterm elections are now one month-and-a-day away. Which I think explains why President Biden is trying so hard to make legalizing marijuana today’s big story.
