Hurricane Ian death toll rises
As of this writing, at least 84 people have been confirmed dead in the wake of Hurricane Ian, 75 of them in Florida. President Biden is scheduled to visit Florida today to tour the damage and meet with Gov. DeSantis. Thankfully, the White House made it clear that they are putting politics aside and coordinating all levels of government to help the storm victims.
But some people just can’t stop themselves from trying to politicize natural disasters. In the latest ridiculous and uninformed attempt to dunk on Gov. DeSantis and his handling of Hurricane Ian, leftists have been reduced to mocking the white rubber boots he wore to tour flood damage areas, apparently without realizing that they’re a particular type of boots worn in situations like…touring flood damage areas. They’re called “muck boots,” which is appropriate considering all the muck-raking his critics are doing.
Proving that Florida is definitely not a blue state, so far, only four people have been arrested there for violating the anti-looting law in the wake of Hurricane Ian. And Gov. DeSantis is not at all happy to report that three of the four are illegal immigrants. He said, “They should be prosecuted, but they need to be sent back to their home country. They should not be here at all.”
Well, if the liberals in blue sanctuary cities like DC and New York City don’t want Florida sending them illegal immigrants who are just looking for a job, maybe they’d take the looters. Seems like they’d fit right in.

After an emergency appeal, the DOJ is ordered to respond
Tuesday, former President Trump filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court, asking that the special master assigned to the case be allowed to review dozens of documents seized from his home by the FBI. Justice Clarence Thomas ordered the Biden DOJ to respond to Trump’s request by 5 p.m. next Tuesday.
All the legal mumbo-jumbo is at the link. Personally, I know this SCOTUS is hesitant to get involved in politically-tinged cases, but when you have an obviously out-of-control DOJ and FBI staging an unprecedented raid of the home of a former President at the behest of a known biased bureaucrat at the National Archives, it would seem to be such a blatant violation of separation of powers that the SCOTUS should be willing to step in and halt it entirely rather than just argue about the minute details of the process.
The whole process is rotten and should never have been allowed to go this far. I seriously doubt that giving the DOJ until Tuesday to come up with a defense of the indefensible is going to produce anything except more hot gas and rear-end covering.
The Twitter deal with Elon Musk is back on
In a surprise announcement Tuesday, it was reported that Elon Musk is going ahead with his deal to buy Twitter. This comes after all the “will he or won’t he,” the lawsuits back and forth, and the accusations of dishonesty about the number of fake bot accounts (some users report that many of their follower accounts are being purged, which suggests that there are lot and Twitter knew how to identify them or they wouldn't know which ones to purge.)
Now, it appears that Musk's purchase of Twitter is a done deal. And that has leftists melting down over the idea of losing their personal propaganda machine/conservative censorship enforcer and suddenly being thrust into a horrible nightmare world where people who disagree with their crackpottery actually have free speech rights.

The Babylon Bee set a new comedy speed record by posting a hilarious online sketch, satirizing the leftist Twitter twits’ traumatic collusion with reality.
And according to Bloomberg News, the mystery person who allegedly gave Musk the idea of buying Twitter appears to be his ex-wife, British actress Talulah Riley.

According to documents filed in court, Riley texted Musk back in March to complain that Twitter banning the Babylon Bee over a “f---ing joke” was “crazy.” She asked, “Why has everyone become so puritanical?” and added, “Can you buy Twitter and then delete it, please!?...America is going INSANE.”
I doubt Musk will delete Twitter entirely, but bringing back free speech and firing all the woke speech police who’ve taken it over will be a big step toward returning sanity to America. Either way, Talulah Riley may go down in history alongside Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II as one of America’s greatest British allies in defeating the forces of fascism.
A toxic committee forms
Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced the formation of a 25-member committee called the Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity, which will identify, monitor, and review aspects of the domestic economy "that have directly and indirectly resulted in unfavorable conditions for communities of color."
The vice chair of the committee is capitalism critic Felicia Wong, a proponent of defunding the police, putting “racial justice” at the center of all government policy-making, and the communistic idea that “true equity means equity of outcome,” not opportunity. And yes, you only have to read as far as paragraph four before you get to her strong financial ties to George Soros.
Ronald Reagan famously said that there’s nothing more permanent than a temporary government program. But in this case, the minute Republicans are back in power, I will expect them to kill this toxic committee like a slow-moving cockroach.
House prices fall
According to a report by Black Knight Data & Analytics, since June, housing prices that had reached record highs have notched their biggest monthly declines since the 2009 housing crash. Other Wall Street firms are predicting continuing drops in housing prices, with homes losing another 7% of value by the end of 2023.

Also, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor and Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey reports that US job openings fell by 1.1 million positions between July and August.
That’s the biggest drop in job openings since the beginning of the pandemic, and twice as bad as economists had predicted.
But again, please remember: as long as we don’t call it a “recession,” it isn’t one. Let’s just call the huge summer drop in job openings a “surprise vacation.”
So this happened in Michigan yesterday...
I don’t know which part of this story is more interesting: that the CEO of the election software company Konnech has been arrested in Michigan “as part of an investigation into the possible theft of personal identifying information of [LA County election] workers” and that the “information was stored on servers in the People’s Republic of China”...
Or was it that just one day before, the New York Times had run a story about a “small group of election deniers” who pushed a “conspiracy theory” with “threadbare evidence” that “a small American election software company, Konnech, had secret ties to the Chinese Communist Party and had given the Chinese government backdoor access to personal data about two million poll workers in the United States.” The Times automatically dismisses anything that might in any way disturb the narrative that the 2020 election was the most honest, trustworthy, fraud-free election we’ve ever known in our lives, and it blew up in their smug faces again.
You can read more about the story at the link, and then discuss what a good idea it is to prosecute and censor anyone who questions government-certified “Truths” dispensed by liberal outlets like the New York Times (also the same people who assured us that Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian disinformation.”)
Fun Fact: While looking up a quote from “The Manchurian Candidate” (“Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life”), I happened across this quote from the original novel by Richard Condon. Does it remind you of anyone you know, like maybe some “big guy”?
