1. DAILY BIBLE VERSE
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
If you have a favorite Bible Verse you want to see in one of our newsletters, please email [email protected].
2. Officials Respond: Smear anyone who questions the narrative:
Unlike Dr. Fauci, I make no claims that “I am science.” But I know enough about science to know that the scientific method requires people to have the freedom to challenge orthodoxy, propose new theories, and test them to see if the accepted beliefs are or are not correct.
For some reason, ever since COVID-19 was unleashed on the world (from you-know-where), there has been a concerted effort by governments, the media, Big Tech and the medical and pharmaceutical establishments to silence and smear anyone who questions the self-proclaimed authorities and their official narrative. But now, more than two years later, much of what those “authorities” have told us has been proven incorrect and many narratives have had to be altered (sometimes to agree with people who were once blasted as heretics.) Alex Gutentag at Tablet magazine has a must-read article that reminds us of all the flip-flopping we've experienced.
https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/covid-affects-your-memory
The good news: future generations might look back at this moment as the time when the public’s frustration reached critical mass, and the people said, “Enough!” and started taking their rights back. For example, here are just a few of the stories that have crossed my desk in the past few days…
A group of scientists who were silenced and slandered for saying that COVID might have originated in a Wuhan lab are speaking up again after internal memos showed that government officials also suspected that but kept it quiet to preserve “international harmony” (i.e., appeasing China.)
A new Monmouth University poll found that while Americans believe it’s prudent to keep some COVID precautions such as masking and social distancing, a whopping 70% say it’s time to accept that COVID is here to stay in one form or another and get on with living.
And then there’s the Canadian truckers’ “Freedom Convoy,” 45 miles long, to protest the leftist government’s vaccine mandate and other onerous rules and regulations that are destroying the trucking industry and worsening the supply chain crisis. They are being supported and cheered on by many thousands of Canadians and drawing financial support from around the world, more so than any Canadian political party (if they can access it from GoFundMe.)
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the protest in Pelosi-esque fashion by fleeing to an undisclosed safe space and denouncing the truckers for spreading “hatred and division.”
But isn’t that exactly the playbook that’s been used against anyone who dared to speak up about having his or her rights violated over the past couple of years, from churches to parents? America’s Founders thought that the rights to speak out, assemble peacefully and petition the government for redress of grievances were so important, they put them into the First Amendment. Incidentally, the incidents Trudeau cited (spotting a Nazi and Confederate flag and vandalizing a military monument) are suspected to be the work of infiltrators trying to discredit the truckers.
This is the same tactic being used in Washington to smear all Trump voters as domestic terrorists because of a handful of idiots who rioted in the Capitol. To prove he doesn’t oppose all protests, Trudeau spoke of his support for BLM protests, which as we all know were completely peaceful, even when they involved arson. And it was okay for those protesters to go maskless before there even were vaccines.
Meanwhile, to try to head off a peaceful trucker protest with widespread public support, the government of Nova Scotia voted to fine people up to $10,000 for engaging in protests, which includes just standing on the sides of certain highways to cheer the truckers. Scratch a leftist, and find a totalitarian underneath.
I don’t recall the BLM protesters being fined $10,000 for gathering in public to express their views. I’m sure none of those people in Canada do, either. And that’s part of the reason why a growing number of them are fed up, and why their would-be overlords are terrified of losing their grip on power. About time.
Instapundit has a great round-up of articles on this subject, ending with a brilliant quote: “I think it’s hilarious that the socialists are furious about the workers of the world uniting.”

3. Elect ANYBODY else:
Rep. Ilhan Omar announced that she’s running for reelection. She said, “I believe that a better world is possible.”
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ilhan-omar-reelection-2022-campaign-announces
I believe that, too, despite the fact that Ilhan Omar is running for reelection. Come on, Minnesota voters, make the world a better place. Elect ANYBODY else to Congress.
PS – I think I’ve figured out why Omar wants to stay in Congress. The security is a lot better than going home to all the crime that’s been created in her district by the “defund the police” policies she supports.
4. Fed Up:
Across the nation, Americans are fed up with “progressive” DA’s who are allowing criminals to run wild through blue cities, openly carrying armloads of stolen goods out of stores (that are closing stores and raising prices in their remaining locations to cover the theft losses), pulling home invasions and carjackings, and attacking both citizens and the police. But this past week might mark the turning point at which the public's anger and frustration finally turn into outright revolt (it's been growing: note the number of recall petitions and local “defund the police” politicians losing their seats.)
I suspect that in the coming years, when asked to pinpoint a day when the tide decisively turned on these leftist “prosecutors,” it will be Friday, January 28, 2022.
Yesterday, a massive crowd of thousands of police officers (some from around the US and from other nations), city officials and everyday New Yorkers lined the streets outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral to pay their last respects to 22-year-old rookie police detective Jason Rivera.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/remembering-nypd-officer-jason-rivera-nyc
Rivera and his partner Wilbert Mora, 27, were answering a domestic disturbance call in Harlem (the kind that police critics want to send “mediation counselors” to deal with) when they were ambushed by a gunman. Rivera died on the scene and Mora died several days later from his wounds. The shooter was killed by another officer who arrived on the scene afterward.
At Rivera’s funeral, his young widow Dominique Luzuriaga gave a heartbreaking eulogy about what she’s gone through and the pain and pointless loss of her husband’s life.
But then she addressed Manhattan’s new DA Alvin Bragg, who is doubling down on the disastrous pro-criminal policies of the DeBlasio years. Speaking for her late husband, Luzuriaga said, “The system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service [NYPD]. I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA. I hope he is watching you speak through me right now…I’m sure all of our blue family is tired, too, but I promise, we promise, that your death won’t be in vain. I love you to the end of time. We’ll take the watch from here.”
Her comments received a standing ovation.
Rivera was remembered as beloved by all who knew him, a kind and idealistic young man who truly lived to serve his city. To make the tragedy even worse, across America, similar funeral services are being held with rising frequency for other dedicated officers who are losing their lives to criminals emboldened by the refusal of leftist DA’s to prosecute them. Violent thugs with long records are being released again and again to prey on citizens, and they’ve come to believe that they can get away with anything, so why not just kill cops? Result: at least nine police officers have been shot or killed in major cities just in the last week.
https://sports.yahoo.com/police-attacked-least-4-us-110120536.html
Three officers were shot and killed in the Houston area alone.
The leftwing prosecutors and city officials who bought into BLM’s “defund the police” insanity are now watching their citizens, police and cities reap the whirlwind that they’ve sown. They did it in the name of ending the alleged “war on black men” by police. But Chris Talgo of the Heartland Institute points out that in all of 2021, four unarmed black men were shot and killed by police, as were seven unarmed white suspects. Meanwhile, 73 cops were killed, a 60% increase from 2020, and of those, 24 were unprovoked attacks. Obviously, 2022 is shaping up to be even worse for police officers.
Some leftwing “criminal justice experts” deny that there’s any targeting of cops; they claim it’s just that there’s a big rise in violent crime, and that’s making policing more dangerous. Yes, and why is there a big rise in violent crime? Because the left has been targeting cops instead of criminals.
There’s a reason why crime is out of control and cops are being killed, and it’s the same reason that San Francisco is filled with homeless people openly doing drugs with free needles supplied by the government. I normally don’t like to politicize tragedies, but these tragedies are a direct result of stupid, radical political policies. In 12-step programs, the term for the people behind these policies would be “enablers.”
Let’s all pray that the funeral of Jason Rivera, and his widow’s stirring words, galvanize the nation the way the George Floyd tape did, so that this becomes the moment when people finally have had enough and demand an immediate end to the enabling of criminals and the targeting of cops.
If there’s a recall petition for anyone backing those policies in your city, please sign it. If there’s not, start one. And be sure to work, volunteer and vote to get them out of office swiftly and permanently. Remember the favorite tactic of the left: radicals sneak into office when voters aren’t paying attention.
Related: Just for the record, voting for more Democrats who claim they’ll be different from the last ones is not the solution:
5. More shocking leaked video:
At a meeting in Laredo, Texas, between Biden Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz and Border Patrol agents, Ortiz berated the agents for not wanting to follow orders and told them they took an oath to do “the job we signed up for.” One agent replied that, no, they took an oath to uphold the Constitution.
It devolved from there, with Ortiz getting angrier and the agents making it clear that they considered Ortiz to be so bogged down in politics that he couldn’t even say the phrase “illegal immigrant,” and that while this Administration was playing politics with border security, a wave of illegal migrants and deadly fentanyl was coming into the US.
Now, my question: why should we have to find out about this only from leaked video? If top officials are refusing to uphold their oaths of office to the point that there’s open rebellion among their ranks, shouldn’t that be, oh, I don’t know…a big NEWS story?
6. Analyzing the Studies:
There have been a number of studies on the effectiveness of lockdowns for saving lives or “stopping the spread” of COVID. But no matter what they showed, critics claimed they were flawed or biased. So as Jokim Book of the Brownstone Institute reports, three university researchers from Denmark, Sweden and Johns Hopkins in the US conducted a meta-analysis of all the studies.
https://brownstone.org/articles/lockdowns-did-not-save-lives-concludes-meta-analysis/
Starting with over 18,000 studies, they winnowed them down to 34 that were solid, unbiased and addressed the issues in question. For all of the economic and psychological harm the lockdowns caused, the destruction of jobs and businesses, the damage to individual rights and kids’ educations, the social upheaval and the higher drug abuse, depression and suicide rates, this was the study’s conclusion:
“We find little to no evidence that mandated lockdowns in Europe and the United States had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality rates.”
There are a lot more details at the link, but that's it in a nutshell. This is why some nations, like Denmark, are lifting their COVID restrictions.
Yet somehow, in the “land of the free” and its neighbor to the north, leaders just keep doubling down on ironfisted authoritarianism. It makes you wonder what they worry about more: stopping the disease or giving up power.
To be clear: none of this is to downplay the seriousness of the disease. I have pre-existing health issues, so I got vaccinated. And even though Omicron is generally milder, it can still be deadly to certain people. For instance, I got a prayer request from a lady whose 88-year-old husband is really struggling with it (rest assured, Iris and Al, you are in our prayers.)
What this analysis of studies shows is not that we shouldn’t have taken COVID seriously, but that we should have dealt with it more intelligently, focusing on protecting those most at risk instead of thinking that we could avoid an airborne virus if we all just hid in our rooms for the rest of our lives. As I pointed out when this first started, that didn’t work in Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death” (written in 1842), and it didn’t work in 2021.
