1. Wednesday, the Labor Department reported that the Consumer Price Index rose 0.3% in April, with inflation from one year before at 8.3%. Democrats crowed that it was 0.2% less than March’s 8.5%, but it was still among the highest rates on record, and higher than the 8.1% economists predicted.
While the energy index fell slightly from the previous month, gas prices are still rising, with energy overall up 30.3% over the past year, gasoline prices up by 43.6%, and fuel oil up by 80.5%. Gas prices at the pumps just hit record highs (average of $4.42 a gallon for regular, $5.56 for diesel), and ominously, diesel inventories are well below historic lows.
2. Among the many other things in short supply, power grid operators are warning that this summer will likely bring electricity shortages and power outages. A big reason is the Biden Administration's campaign to “end fossil fuels” before we have the ability to replace them with green energy sources.
One of the hallmarks of human intelligence is that we allegedly have enough brain power to read and communicate, so we are able to learn from others’ mistakes and don’t have to keep making them over and over for ourselves. A few years’ back, European nations shut down their energy sources to “go green.” After disastrous and even deadly results (elderly people dying in heat waves, etc.), they started building nuclear plants and having to buy oil from Russia. It’s a mistake that anyone since then who has two brain cells to rub together should have been able to recognize and avoid.
3. In the midst of crippling inflation, sky-high gas and home fuel prices, and dire warnings of electricity shortages, President Biden just canceled a massive sale of oil and gas leases in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico that was pending before the Department of the Interior.

Okay, can you make a connection between those stories? Here’s a hint: remember how I implied that some people don't have “two brain cells to rub together”? That's the connection point.
Senate abortion bill goes down in a ball of flames
Republicans are very lucky that Democrats don’t read my newsletter. If, say, Chuck Schumer read it, he would have been warned in advance that many things he tried to get through the Senate were kamikaze missions, doomed to go down in a ball of flames. But no, he went ahead, anyway. Earlier this week, I pointed out that his announced plan to force a national pro-abortion bill through the Senate was the epitome of the classic line from “Animal House”: “I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.”
Ironically, the smart thing to do would have been to abort it. But no, he plowed ahead with his futile and stupid gesture, with results as predictable as one of Wile E. Coyote’s Acme missiles blowing up in his face.
Schumer forced a Senate vote on a bill to allegedly “codify” Roe v. Wade into federal law, even though it went way beyond Roe. It would have legalized abortion right up to the minute of birth, and overturned all state laws limiting abortion, including the requirement to inform women of alternatives (backed by 88% of Americans); forced taxpayers to pay for abortions for Medicaid recipients; forced religious health care workers to perform abortions (goodbye freedom of conscience); let non-doctors perform abortions (this is “women’s health care?); and allowed sex-selective abortions, or aborting a baby just because it’s the “wrong” gender (who’s waging a “war on women” again?)
The result: Not only did this not get the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster, it didn’t even get a majority vote. It went down 51-49, with Joe Manchin joining all the Republicans in opposing it. Schumer knew this was going to happen, but he somehow thinks it’s smart politics to keep reenacting Custer’s Last Stand. He wants Democrats to run on a claim that Republicans are so radical that they opposed the taxpayer-paid, wholesale slaughter of babies in the womb right up to the moment of birth.
In reality, he proved that the Democrats are now so fiercely devoted to representing the most radical 15-20% of the electorate that they aren’t interested in representing anybody else. Thanks to him, we now have 49 of 50 Senators (98% of Democrat incumbents) on record as evidence.
So make a note: when campaign season starts, and your Democrat Senator claims to be a reasonable, bipartisan moderate who will stand up to the radicals in the Party, if his name isn’t Joe Manchin, he’s lying.
By the way, even Manchin said he would vote to codify Roe v. Wade into law, but this bill just went too far. So don’t start thinking he’s not a Democrat.
A misuse of the FBI
Bonchie at Redstate.com reports that while the Biden DOJ continues to refuse to enforce the laws against threats toward SCOTUS Justices at their private homes, maybe it’s because they’re just too busy dealing with the real threat to America: parents angry about their kids being indoctrinated with racist CRT training, anti-American leftist politics and inappropriate sexual messages.
A whistleblower has confirmed a prior report that despite Attorney General Merrick Garland’s apparently false denials to Congress, the FBI’s counter-terrorism division has opened dozens of investigations of parents who’ve protested at school board meetings and labeled them with a “Threat” tag. Why? Well, one dad who opposed school mask mandates was investigated and tagged because he “fit the profile of an insurrectionist.”
The whistleblower also revealed that the FBI had even opened “an investigation into Republican officials because a Democrat official had complained that opposing vaccine mandates in schools could ‘incite violence.’”
As Bonchie reports, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are demanding documents from Attorney General Merrick Garland on this outrageous abuse of power, but they’ll get nothing until they’re in the majority and have subpoena power. Even then, it will take a Republican President and Congress to perform the complete flushing out of all federal agencies that have been corrupted by politics. Keep working toward making that happen in November and in 2024, and make it clear to Republicans you support that you will accept nothing less.
Court Victory Round-up
A 5th US Circuit Appeals Court panel has reinstated a Texas law that prevents big social media companies from banning users over their political views. The ruling lifted a stay placed by a lower court judge while the challenge to the law proceeds in the lower court. The law “requires social media platforms with more than 50 million monthly users to publicly disclose information about content removal and account suspensions."

And believe it or not, a panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled 2-1 that California’s ban on sales of semi-automatic weapons to people under 21 violates the 2nd Amendment and is unconstitutional. Judge Ryan Nelson actually wrote in the ruling that “America would not exist without the heroism of the young adults who fought and died in our Revolutionary Army.”
It was yet another example of the intellectual inconsistency of liberal lawmakers, who approve of age restrictions when they’re blocking things they don’t want legal adults to do (smoke, drink, own guns) but are fine with 18-year-olds being adults who can sign contracts, get married and fight their wars. And if it gives them a political advantage, then they’re okay with 16-year-olds voting, and 15-year-olds having abortions and 13-year-olds getting puberty-blocking drugs and genital surgery, all without their parents’ knowledge or consent.
Saddest Defense of Biden So Far
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough claimed that Republicans are attacking President Biden because he’s “not articulate,” and argued, “Hey, Joe’s not Shakespeare, OK? Nobody ever said he was. Joe wasn’t Shakespeare 40 years ago, right?”
I do agree that Joe Biden has never been Shakespeare (is it okay to make a positive reference to old, dead, white males now?) But these days, he sounds more like a bad improv comic on LSD. There’s a difference between inarticulate and incomprehensible.
If you want to see why Biden’s media defenders are flailing so desperately, check out his comments about inflation. His handlers actually thought it would be a good idea to send him out on tour to speak. They were apparently overconfident in the teleprompters, not realizing that Joe likes to wander off-prompter. And I mean so far off, it takes GPS to locate him.
A few examples from Wednesday’s Midwestern speeches alone: he suggested that New Jersey borders on Virginia (it doesn’t – Maryland and his own home state of Delaware are between the two); claimed the G7, whose summits he’s attended, are the seven democracies of Europe (they’re the seven most advanced economies and not all are in Europe); claimed he inherited an economy on the brink of depression (it was already rebounding); and had several of his scary grandpa moments, from screaming weirdly about food shortages to coming out with quotes like this:
“That’s why I’ve got a plan to lower the costs of everyday things that make most people who work to have, who need.”
“The #1 threat is the strength. And that strength that we’ve built is inflation.”
Earlier in the day, Republican Sen. Rick Scott had said, “Let’s be honest here. Joe Biden is unwell. He’s unfit for office. He’s incoherent, incapacitated and confused. He doesn’t know where he is half the time. He’s incapable of leading and he’s incapable of carrying out his duties. It’s simple. The most effective thing Joe Biden can do to solve the inflation crisis he created is resign. He’s the problem. Getting him out of office is a quick and easy solution.”
As if to prove Scott's point, during his speeches, Biden attacked Scott, calling him the Senator from Wisconsin. He’s actually from Florida.
I’m notoriously forgiving of political slips of the tongue, but these aren’t slips, they’re a Slip-and-Slide that he's taking the entire nation down. The only highlight was when Biden again tried to attack Trump and his supporters and only made them sound cooler. The first time he did that was when he called them “Ultra MAGA” (T-shirts with that are already selling big, which might be the first thing Joe’s done that actually stimulated the economy.)
Wednesday, Biden tried again to slam Trump by calling him “the great MAGA king.” I bet Trump will trademark that and make a fortune selling merchandise branded with it. Or as an articulate President might say, “Let’s go brandin’!”
