Growing anger and desperate spin
With the Energy Department becoming the second federal agency to determine that COVID-19 most likely escaped from a Chinese virology lab, anger and demands for investigations are growing among the many people who were censored or branded spreaders of “disinformation” or conspiracy theories for suggesting that possibility a few years ago. There’s also some desperate spin from the left, with many insisting that there’s still no hard evidence (good luck ever getting that when it will require China’s cooperation) and that most agencies still cling to the “natural transmission from some animal” theory.
One MSNBC contributor even tried to blame the censorship on the “rightwing” because people who were saying what now appears to be the truth were “conflated” with nutty conspiracy theorists. Yes, and who did that “conflating,” I wonder? That’s a neat trick: silence and marginalize people by smearing their reputations, then claim it’s their own fault because they had damaged reputations.
One person who was silenced and smeared early on was Chinese virologist Dr. Li Meng Yan, who put out an alarm back in 2020 that the virus was not only created in a lab but she accused the Chinese Communist Party of intentionally releasing it to destroy Western economies and elevate their own global position. Last night, she appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show, where he asked if she still believed that. Yes, she does, and she explained why, along with why she, as someone who works in a virology lab, believes it would have been impossible for COVID to have accidentally leaked out of a virology lab.
Ron DeSantis
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hasn’t even announced whether he’s running for President in 2024, but he’s done a number of things that are making him look like a candidate. On Monday, he signed the new law stripping the Disney Corporation of its 65-year sweetheart deal as a self-governing entity over the part of Florida where its theme parks reside.

DeSantis said, "Since the 1960s, they’ve enjoyed privileges unlike any company or individual in the state of Florida has ever enjoyed. They had exemptions from laws that everyone else had to follow. They were able to get huge amounts of benefits without paying their fair share of taxes." That even sounds like a campaign speech.
Another thing he did that practically yells “I’m running for President” is that he’s releasing a book on his life and governing philosophy, titled “The Courage to be Free." In an advance excerpt obtained by Fox News, he reveals that former Disney CEO Bob Chapek called him about the unprecedented pressure he was getting from outside Democrats and woke/LGBTQ activists inside Disney to publicly oppose the falsely-dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” law. It actually just barred schools from discussing any sexual subjects with children up to third grade without parental consent.
DeSantis said he advised Chapek that if the company stayed out of politics, he would get grief on the Internet for 48 hours and then it would blow over. But Chapek caved to the leftists. It not only cost them many billions in lost stock value and movie and TV flops, and severely damaged public approval of their brand, it’s now cost them their coveted self-governing status in Florida.
DeSantis has more advice for fellow Republicans who tend to cave to the loud leftists whose voices are amplified beyond their numbers by the media and social media:
"When you stand up for what's right, they come after you. It isn't easy, so you got to have the courage of your convictions to stand strong. But I think what we've shown in Florida if you do that and people see you're willing to fight for them, they'll walk over broken glass barefoot to vote for you, and I'm proof positive that. Four years ago, I won by 32,000 votes. Last November, I won by 1.5 million votes."
No matter who the 2024 GOP candidate turns out to be, I hope that he or she will adopt that same attitude.
Related: It’s hard to believe in light of recent events, but DeSantis’ book reveals that he and his wife were married at Disney World. But it wasn’t his idea.

He claims he didn’t even know people got married there until his now-wife Casey brought it up. And he only agreed on one condition: “No Disney characters could be part of our wedding. I wanted our special day to look and feel like a traditional wedding. I didn’t want Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck in our wedding photos."
He didn’t want any unintelligible cranks with no pants at his wedding, so he barred Donald Duck and Democrat politicians.
Vivek Ramaswamy
Speaking of the 2024 Republican Presidential field, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy released a short video explaining why he’s entering the race. It’s very impressive, and I think you’ll find yourself agreeing with what he says and glad that more GOP leaders are stepping up to say it.

I especially appreciate him addressing a point that I’ve made for years: that when the left rejected God, love of country and other traditional values, they still had a spiritual vacuum inside that needed to be filled. So they fill it with fanatical secular religions like climatism and identity politics.
Greta Thunberg is protesting wind turbines
Greta Thunberg takes a lot of criticism, but I have to give her credit for recognizing what no other greenies will, and it’s something I’ve been hammering away on for years here: Wind turbines are an environmental nightmare. Or as we call them in these parts, “bird Cuisinarts.”

I think we have bigger problems than this to worry about
With all the problems facing Americans, thank goodness one legislator has pinpointed the top priority crying out for government intervention: banning your dog from sticking its head out of the car window to let the air blow back its ears.
Grandpa Biden is back
Once again, President Biden demonstrated why you don’t let grandpa make the toast at the Black History Month dinner.
