I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

    Mike,
I agree with you on many things, but here I have to whole heartedly disagree. The 20 "selfish" hold outs were doing exactly what you have encouraged in weeks past - fighting for the American people.
They held out for 4 days. DAYS. Not weeks. Not months. Days. That is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. And you yourself have commented in the past at the lack of backbone in today's politicians for fighting for the American people. I believe that's what these politicians were doing. I never doubted McCarthy would eventually be elected, but he was going to have to fight for it, not just think it would be given to him. We needed a change to the status-quo, because insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. The democrats knew our playbook, and they knew how to play defense like pros. And lately they have had a lot of turnovers as well. We need new plays to win. And we are seriously behind at halftime, like 75-0.
I can understand 1 or 2 politicians being selfish (and there still are, I'm sure), but 20 people of 200? That's 10%. Just like how we are kowtowing to the minority of LGBTQ, Black Lives Matter, the "woke" population, etc. who compromise <10% of the population. And why? Because they get the majority of the media coverage. They (the media) thrive to make it seem like there are so many more. The "squeaky wheel gets the grease". So, in my opinion, these 10% of Republicans played right into the hands of the media. Get the attention of the media, bring attention to themselves through publicity, get what they want for the American people. Of course the media will paint them as the evil villains/villainesses, but anyone worth a hoot (like those of us who read your newsletter) know better than to eat it up. The leftists, of course, will view it as chaos in the Republican party. But to those of us Republicans watching all this unfold and wonder, "Why are they fighting this?" And so we do our research. We don't allow ourselves to be spoon-fed. There's a method to the madness, never doubt that. The positive will never truly be revealed by the media, because then that will destroy the leftist narrative. If you saw coverage on FOX right before the last vote was taken, McCarthy and Gaetz were talking intimately and McCarty held Matt's upper arm while they discussed whatever it was they were talking about. That kind of body language indicates respect and comraderie, not hatred and vitriol.
I hope this makes sense. I'm sure you could describe it much more eloquently.
Now, let's hope they get to work and some real changes are coming our way!
    Sincerely,
    Valerie

I understand your point regarding McCarthy & the vote for speaker, but he is status quo & part of the problem. When will the representatives actually represent their constituents? If not now, when? https://rumble.com/v248m5y-anna-paulina-luna-jeffersonian-motion-to-vacate-the-chair-to-hold-speaker-o.html

It seems as though these negotiations are exactly what our reps need to gain a much needed change. Why should they be in a rush to accept another establishment puppet? Quite frankly, I'm tired of feeling as though my taxes are going to support so much corruption. It's about time some of them stop caving to the norm & find their spine. I'm proud of their grit.

If McCarthy becomes the Speaker, lots of us who have voted straight Republican will boycott the party's candidates in the next election. And yes, lots of us are Independents who do not care about either party. Both are corrupt.

I am disappointed that we are entertaining emotional arguments about 20 insurgents holding up 200 House members from restraining the Democrat agenda.

Consider what just happened in the Senate. 18 Republicans, rather than restrain the lame duck Congress from going on another spending blow-out and gifts to departing Senators, fully funded the woke agenda of the Democrats for the full 2023 fiscal year and provided more money to “process” illegal immigrants streaming across our open borders while excluding anything for actual border security.

And they denied the House the Power of the Purse needed to compel these recalcitrant bureaucrats to deliver the documents soon to be demanded by subpoena.

Now we are considering our razor thin majority in the House and the need to investigate this Administration. What we don’t need is a “deal maker” willing to “work with” Democrats. We need someone who will prevent the Democrats from fundamentally transforming this country into an open border, woke Marxist welfare state while stonewalling legitimate oversight every step of the way.

Is Kevin McCarthy the person to do that? Not based on his history. McCarthy is an old school Congress-critter who loves to raise money for people who will be loyal to him and to “work across the aisle” to “prove that Congress can work” to pass legislation the Democrats want.

What we require today is a person who will play hardball with the other side. If that requires shutting down the Government to prevent another omnibus package, then let the games begin.

Do your own research – Kevin McCarthy got more done for Democrats in the budget bills he supported than for Republicans.

    https://www.theblaze.com/op-ed/horowitz-mccarthy-passed-budget-bills-with-dem-support-during-trump-years

Sometimes I wonder if the Republicans really want to be in the majority in Congress. They don’t seem to know what to do with the power of the purse when they have it. Look at what we got during the Boehner-Cantor-Ryan years. A decade of Continuing Resolutions and last minute Omnibus spending blowouts.

These are the concerns that the 20 insurgents are bringing to the House Floor in lively debate – more debate than we have had in the last couple of years on issues Conservatives should care about. If this is what it takes to get clear objectives, I am willing to wait.

What is disappointing here is that Kevin McCarthy has remained relatively silent during the debate. Why have we not heard from him how he intends to lead this slim minority? How is he going to achieve Conservative goals for the country?

Once selected, the thin Republican majority must absolutely rally behind the elected Speaker of the House. But that Speaker must deliver for the Conservative voters who gave Republicans this chance to prove that they know how to wield power, not “get along” with the Democrats.

So the question remains: is Kevin McCarthy the Conservative Leader we need for these times, the person we need to rebuke the Democrat’s open border, Woke agenda and tax and spend welfare state policies?

As an Independent of Massachusetts I agree with you this is crazy, a house divided can not stand. Let’s hope someone will smarten up and do the right thing. Happy New Year!

I disagree with you 100%. Kevin McCarthy is a Uniparty leader who does not represent the will of the people. We want change. We want the swamp to be cleaned out. Kevin McCarthy will not do this. He should step down so a true compromise leader, someone willing to fight for us, can be put in. I want someone who will fight for America first. Business as usual means USA continues its decline into corruption and globalism.

Well said Mr. Huckabee!! Please call & remind them that a divided Republican Party is an ineffective party that accomplishes nothing on behalf of it's constituents, & makes the Democrats look like a better option. We win only to lose by their own doing. Sad.

Careful ... the MAJORITY is not always right ...
We have just had SIX years of the MAJORITY destroying AMERICA (2017-2022)
If your convictions can be compromised, your courage is questionable.
If you recant your faith, we call that apostacy ... True sincerity accepts persecution.

First of all I/we, Wife and I, both love your program from Nashville. Maybe we will go there soon. Secondly thank you for saying that you did support some of those people who now are responsible for not getting the job done they were elected to do, by not getting a speaker voted for in the house and saying they will not have your support going forward. And being a fan of your show we know who they are. Seriously if they are waiting for someone perfect I have a news flash for them, when He comes, nothing else will matter about politics or anything else! Get’erDone is what’s needed NOW— drop the ego trips and get to work repairing America from all the damage done by the Democrats. PLEASE!!! This is worse than listening to Nancy Pilose cackling and telling lies about how great everything is now! PLEASE GET TO WORK! Do it for America. Do it for Americans. Do it because you were elected to DO IT!! Get it done! This is what they want and sooo embarrassing for everyone who voted for you people!

I’ve been a Constitutional Conservative since I voted for Reagan. Like the small group of Republican representatives, I’m fed up with career politicians that believe you have to get in line and do your time before you have any power in DC. I have no problem with a short 3-5 day delay in a majority Republican vote for McCarthy. Debate is good. Many people like me want their voices heard through the representatives they elect. Pelosi style politics needs to stop. I want to be assured that the Republican Speaker is in agreement. That being said, I agree that McCarthy deserves a chance. Republicans and hopefully independents are watching. More importantly, Republican pundits like yourself need to stop sideline blasting those on the field. Leave that to the Democrats. They don’t need your help. Thank you for allowing a comment.
