A Note on Today’s Date

Today is September 10th. After the 9/11 attacks occurred 20 years ago tomorrow, a phrase entered the language: “September 10th thinking.” It referred to the mindset so many people had then: that America was a safe land protected by oceans; that terrorist attacks happened somewhere else; that everyone was basically like us and didn’t wish others harm; and that evil was an archaic concept only believed in by those outmoded Bible thumpers. It was the mindset of people living in a cocoon, not realizing how spoiled and shielded from the harsh realities of the world they were…people who thought that if they closed their eyes and ignored threats, they would go away and never intrude on their comfy, shallow worlds.
Just 24 hours later, 9/11 delivered a brutal shock of reality that shattered that mindset for most people. It was so horrific that those of us who lived through it and watched the death, destruction and madness unfold on our TV screens (or worse, in person) assumed that it would remain branded on our national psyche forever. Never again could we be lulled into the false sense of complacency that became known as “September 10th thinking.” Never again...
Yet, today, it’s September 10th again. And as I look around, even at the highest levels of government, I see people entrusted with the security of the US surrendering to the Taliban in hopes that they’ll be nice to the Americans we left behind and negotiate in good faith with us. Meanwhile, they rail that the greatest threats to America are our fellow Americans who vote for Republicans or balk at wearing three masks. And of course, the climate.
I'm very concerned to see that September 10th thinking is back with a vengeance. Only now, it’s obvious that “thinking” has nothing to do with it.
Democrats Go All-Out Dictator

Today’s news theme seems to be “The Party that called Trump a Dictator Goes All-Out Dictator.” While Biden was doing his Great Dictator routine with vaccine mandates, other leftists are giving free rein to their addictions to censorship and book burning.
One of the “progressive” left’s favorite recent tactics to get around the First Amendment is to claim that it only applies to the government, not private business, so it’s okay if Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc., censor free speech. Aside from the fact that those have become the modern public square, there’s also the fact that leftists are using government power to threaten or collude with tech companies to get them to censor anything they disagree with. Saying that's not government censorship is like claiming you’re innocent of murder because you blackmailed someone else into committing it for you.
Latest example: Sen. Elizabeth Warren sent a vaguely threatening letter to Amazon, demanding that they explain to her why they are carrying books that question the government’s handling and narratives on COVID-19. Under the fig leaf of “stopping misinformation” (as defined by her), she’s using her office to intimidate a private company into barring the sale of books she doesn’t like. Ironically, one book she cites argues that leftists are using the pandemic to promote authoritarianism. I’d hardly call that “misinformation.”
Here’s what I fear will be next for Sen. Warren and her ilk: following the lead of the Ontario school board that removed 4700 old books from library shelves that they deemed to contain outdated content, “cultural appropriation” and offensive stereotypes about indigenous peoples, and destroyed them. Thirty books were burned and their ashes used as tree fertilizer in a symbolic gesture they called a “flame purification” ceremony.
I’m sure the “progressive” DC Democrats who gave us terms such as “birthing people” will leap on “flame purification ceremony” as a much nicer-sounding euphemism for “book burning.”
Nomination Withdrawn

Taking our victories for America wherever we can find them these days, the Biden Administration has withdrawn its nomination of David Chipman to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Chipman was such an explosive pick that all Republican Senators and even a handful of Senate Democrats from gun-friendly states opposed him. Chipman has been an outspoken gun control activist, he’s publicly demeaned law-abiding gun owners, and he promulgated a fake story that the Branch Davidians shot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters during the Waco siege in 1993.
But don’t worry about Mr. Chipman. I’m sure he’ll be able to find a job writing “news” articles for Rolling Stone magazine.
Biden's Approval Rating Crashes

Here’s more on that YouGov/Economist poll that found President Biden’s approval rating has crashed to 39%. The deeper you dig into it, the worse it becomes.

And here’s what may be the worst news of all for Biden: the poll greatly oversampled Democrats. The polling sample was 506 Democrats, 465 Independents and only 366 Republicans.
I always expect polls to oversample Democrats to make them and their positions appear more popular than they are (which does them no more of a favor than telling someone “That suit looks good on you” when it really makes them look like a hippo in a clown suit.) But when you oversample Biden’s base that much and can still only get his approval rate up to 39%, imagine what it must really be!
Latest Example Of Cancel Culture

In the latest infuriating example of cancel culture, the Atlanta Jewish Times removed an op-ed by Vernon Jones and issued a groveling apology. You might remember Jones as the African-American former State Senator who was viciously attacked by fellow Democrats for saying he was voting for Trump because his policies had been better for blacks.
The Jewish paper removed an article by Jones called “How one Jewish family shaped my views: Vernon Jones recalls the family that inspired him to speak up for Jewish Americans.”
And what’s so offensive about that? Turns out a Jewish staffer for Democrat vote fraud activist Stacey Abrams took to Twitter to declare it “disgusting” that the paper was “platforming a far-right extremist who held multiple rallies *LAST YEAR* with antisemites Alex Jones and holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, along with the head of the Proud Boys and other white supremacists.”
And how did a black Democrat who wrote an article about his admiration for Jewish people become a known consort of anti-Semites and white supremacists? Along with thousands of other people, he and they were at a rally at the Georgia Capitol protesting the 2020 vote recount that affirmed Biden as the winner.
If appearing at a huge public event means you agree with everyone else there, no matter how extreme, then I could call Stacey Abrams a radical, America-hating socialist/communist because she was at the 2020 Democratic Convention.
