The Fourth Week begins

Here's the link to today’s continually-updated Fox News bulletins on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, now entering its fourth week:

https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/ukraine-russia-live-updates-03-19-2022

Latest updates at this writing:

The horrific destruction of Ukrainian cities continues. On Friday, at least 45 people were reported dead after Russia shelled a Ukrainian army barracks in Mykolaiv. But so far, Russia has made minimal progress as Ukrainian forces have managed to prevent them from encircling and taking control of Kyiv and Mykolaiv. As previously reported, Putin is using Stalinesque rhetoric and appeals to Russian patriotism to try to shore up support for his poorly-planned invasion.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called on Putin to meet with him directly. He said it’s “time to meet, time to speak.” Not conceding at all, he warned, "The time has come to restore territorial integrity and justice for Ukraine. Otherwise, Russia's losses will be such that it will take you several generations to recover."

Meanwhile, President Biden warned China’s President Xi Jinping that China would face sanctions if Beijing supports Russia's war financially or militarily. Here's more on those talks from Matt Vespa at Townhall.com. He's not optimistic, to say the least.

RIP Don Young

Don Young was my dear friend. We were introduced by Congressman Jay Dickey when I was early in my term as Governor and Don’s passion for sound and responsible infrastructure was similar to mine. We both believed that one of the true legitimate functions of government was to build roads, bridges, airports, seaports, and vital transportation systems. Few who ever served in Congress were as knowledgeable about infrastructure as Don. We also shared a passion for the outdoors and hunting. Don came to Arkansas to duck hunt with me on several occasions. He was an amazing shooter, but I think what he loved most was the time we went on a riverboat tour of the Arkansas River. The old “riverboat captain” version of Don Young (his early life vocation) came alive, and he drove the massive sand retrieval craft along the river and the smile on his face is something I’ll never forget. I loved Don. He was brutally honest, but was a man who loved life, loved Alaska, loved Congress, but never lost being that salty old river boat captain who loved to hunt and fish. What a character! We talked on the phone every few months—rarely about politics. Just a conversation of two old friends who thought politics was important, but friendship and the thrill of being in the woods or on the water made life better!

More on this story Monday

We’ll have more details on the Hunter Biden laptop story Monday, but a quick update: The attorney for a woman who had Biden’s baby out of wedlock revealed that she testified to a Delaware grand jury investigating Hunter in a federal tax probe. He said she gave them a “significant amount” of his financial records, and he expects Biden to be indicted.

That link contains more from Miranda Divine, who has been all over this story since even before the liberal media falsely declared it false.

A little good news

Gas prices have dropped slightly, with the average price of a gallon down from last week’s all-time high of $4.33 to $4.26. That’s still shockingly high, of course. If you do see any sudden noticeable drops in price, it will likely mean that your state has temporarily stopped collecting the tax on gas.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/gas-prices-3-19-2022

The bad news: even though polls show Americans overwhelmingly approve of suspending gas taxes, if you live in a blue state (where gas taxes are highest), that’s a lot less likely to happen.

CNN Shakedown?

Generally speaking, I don’t derive pleasure from the public misery of others. But when one disgruntled liberal liar starts throwing other liberal liars under the bus to try to force a ridiculous hush money payment out of CNN, the only reasonable response is to pop some popcorn and settle in for the show.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/chris-cuomo-is-burning-down-cnn-and-hes-taking-don-lemon-with-him/ar-AAVcYnl

In a move that should earn its own wing in the Hubris Hall of Fame, disgraced faux journalist Chris Cuomo now thinks he deserves a $125 million payoff from CNN for firing him for no other reason than he allegedly committed egregious violations of journalistic ethics and sexual harassment. His argument for why that was unfair involves taking down his ex-colleagues. He’s pointing out that Don Lemon also committed egregious ethical violations such as tipping off Jussie Smollett that the Chicago cops didn’t believe his ludicrous story, and he’s also being sued for alleged sexual assault. But CNN didn’t fire him.

Likewise, Jeffrey Toobin exposed his toobin during a video conference call, which Cuomo’s lawyers called a “sordid act of sexual harassment,” but he wasn’t fired.

And they pointed out that ex-CNN President Jeff Zucker had a relationship with a female CNN executive who also had questionable connections to Andrew Cuomo, but they only resigned after this was revealed in Cuomo’s lawsuit.

In short, Cuomo’s argument is that he’s being unfairly scapegoated because at CNN, being an ethically bankrupt sexual harasser has always been A-OK.

I’ve got to admit, I can’t think of any way to argue with that. But I don’t think he should be paid $125 million for being the only one who was fired. I think a better solution would be to fire the entire lot of them and turn CNN back into an actual news network.

That link is worth a read, but I notice that the USA Today writer just had to get in a dig at Trump by referring to “Cuomo’s Trumpian-style lack of ethics.” Excuse me, but wasn’t it CNN that spent years lying about Trump, and we’re now learning that everything Trump said about CNN was true? Maybe this writer should examine why he thinks Trump is so unethical and consider how much of that opinion was formed by watching fake news on CNN.

Here’s a little positive news to think about as you’re driving to church on Sunday

A study by the research firm Barna Group discovered that people’s relationships are better when they regularly attend church. The study’s leader said they found that “individuals whose lives are grounded in faith and who maintain a connection to an active church community are more likely to flourish in the other key dimensions of life.”

https://www.christianitydaily.com/articles/15284/20220316/people-s-relationships-are-better-when-they-regularly-go-to-church.htm

Read the whole thing. But don’t let it make you late for church.

Retiring Democrat unloads

One of the few remaining moderate Democrats in the House is retiring from Congress at 43. She says there is no middle ground anymore, and the party is under the control of radicals with the leadership trying to “beat moderates into submission.” She was also being opposed by several Democrat interest groups for supporting law and order and legal immigration.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2022/03/18/retiring-moderate-democrat-unloads-on-her-partys-extremists-n1567548

It’s a cautionary tale for those who dislike the far-left lurch of the national Democratic Party but think their local Democratic Representative is different. That might be true, but once they get to Washington and are put under tremendous pressure by the Party leaders, you’ll find that almost every radical left bill passes on a party line vote. If you don’t want your Representative to be on the left side of that line, there’s only one way to make sure they’re not subject to pressure from the Democratic leaders, and that’s to elect a Republican.
