My Thoughts On Andrew Cuomo's Resignation

By Mike Huckabee

This week saw the resignation of Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, who was ultimately all by himself trying to defend against charges brought by 11 different women who revealed alleged behavior that was sleazy, creepy, disgusting, and in some cases criminal. The women accusing him were mostly women who worked for him at one time or another. His political allies abandoned him and called on him to resign, including his own senior staff, President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, the entire Democrat NY Congressional delegation and a majority of the Democrats in the state Assembly—more than enough to successfully impeach him, which they had started doing. Even then, the political world was caught off guard when he abruptly announced his resignation, effective 2 weeks from the announcement.

Cuomo is one of the most arrogant political figures of modern times. He vowed he would fight the allegations and never resign. To be fair, he was entitled to due process and a presumption of innocence. But those are LEGAL rights. His decision to get out of office was a political surrender, but it became obvious even to him that he had run out of good will and support from his political peers, the voters and even the press.

But it shouldn’t be forgotten that the serious and troubling accusations about his sexual harassment and even assault of various women were not the only serious charges he was facing. For well over a year, he has been under scrutiny for ordering Covid positive patients from hospitals to nursing homes which infected thousands of nursing home residents who died from what was a deadly decision. Making matters worse, it appeared that he not only lied about the number of those who died, revealed to be over 15,000, but he had covered up the numbers and under-reported them and had his staff help conceal the truth from the families, the legislature and the press. And in the midst of that, he wrote a vanity book about his self-proclaimed superior leadership of the Covid crisis, for which he was apparently paid north of $5 million dollars which he pocketed, even though his taxpayer funded staff helped research and prepare the book. So there were really 3 things that pushed him out of his prideful perch and any one of the three alone would have been grounds for his impeachment or his resignation. And did I mention that he got an Emmy for his long and insufferable press conferences during the early months of Covid because he mostly whined that the federal government wasn’t doing enough for him, despite President Trump sending him a hospital ship he never used, more ventilators than he asked for or ever needed, and medical supplies by the truckload.

I was the Republican Lt. Governor of AR in 1996 when the Democrat Governor was forced to resign after being convicted of felonies by an Arkansas jury. I have feelings of empathy for the NY Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul who has less than 2 weeks to prepare to ascend to the governorship. An abrupt change in leadership is a tumultuous time for a state, and the transition is intense. She will have limited time to assemble a staff, physically move into the office and Governor’s mansion, meet with the current staff and cabinet members and discuss with the legislators the path going forward.

We should never celebrate the fall of a political leader, but we should celebrate that when a politician totally betrays the trust of the people, he does step aside so the people can remember that they are the ones with the power—and sometimes they simply have a right to take it back.

Wonderful Examples

By Mike Huckabee

Thanks to Instapundit for these wonderful examples of why Americans no longer trust the media or government authorities. It’s partly because they seem to find math, or even basic fact-checking, to be really, really hard.

Avenatti Lawsuit Is Thrown Out

By Mike Huckabee

More bad news for disgraced, convicted lawyer and one-time anti-Trump media darling Michael Avenatti: a federal judge threw out his libel lawsuit against Fox News. The judge wrote:

https://reason.com/volokh/2021/08/13/michael-avenattis-libel-lawsuit-against-fox-thrown-out-by-judge/

“News outlets are not liable for minor mistakes, especially when reporting on public figures and matters of public concern. Michael Avenatti, a famous lawyer, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. Fox News covered his arrest. He sued, claiming that its reporting defamed him (by saying he was charged with domestic violence.) But most of its statements were substantially true. And Avenatti does not plausibly plead that Fox or its employees knew that the statements were false or recklessly disregarded that possibility. He also fails to allege any recoverable damages. I will thus dismiss his complaint…”

The judge added, “Defamatory speech must be materially false. Minor inaccuracies do not amount to falsity so long as 'the substance, the gist, the sting, of the libelous charge be justified.'" The heart of Avenatti's case is just such a minor error.”

So minor honest mistakes are not libel or defamation. Then why do they merit the death penalty on social media?

I might have added that no matter what you say about Michael Avenatti that turns out to be slightly wrong, it couldn’t possibly be worse than the truth.

Weekend Reading

By Mike Huckabee

While we take a little time off, here are a couple of articles to provide food for serious thought. First, Scott McKay at The American Spectator assesses how badly the Republicans and conservatives have failed in stopping the far-left from overwhelming America and argues that if we are going to save this nation and restore our founding principles, we need a new movement. In that regard, he says the media were wrong about Trump. He wasn’t a “messiah” figure to his supporters. He was more like John the Baptist, sounding the alarm and setting the table for what’s coming.

https://spectator.org/revivalists-conservatives/

And Deborah Bucknam at the American Thinker has an article that should be required reading for every American, but especially those who live in cities and states ravaged by decades of one-party Democrat rule, but who keep reelecting them because no matter how badly they ruin people’s lives, they say you can’t vote for Republicans because they’re “racist.”

It’s a detailed look back at the long, deep, ugly history of racism in the Democratic Party (the Republican Party was actually founded to force the Democrats to give up their slaves.) But it’s not just 18th century racism. Like the Energizer Bunny, Democrat Party racism just keeps going and going, from the Civil War to the KKK to Jim Crow to the poll tax (that Republicans tried to end) and right up to today, when they want to defund the police in crime-ridden, riot-torn black neighborhoods while keeping their own private security; bring back segregation in schools; and judge people solely by their skin color, only they now call that “Critical Race Theory” rather than what it really is: racism.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2021/08/a_racial_reckoning_for_the_democrats.html

I hope minorities who keep reelecting Democrats because they believe the endless lies that Republicans are “racist” will read this and consider Einstein’s rule that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Profiles In Hypocrisy

By Mike Huckabee

The same Philadelphia mayor who shut down his city over COVID then went to another city to dine in a restaurant without a mask has now mandated that unvaccinated people have to wear TWO masks. He should wear two masks, both soundproof.

Three Cheers

By Mike Huckabee

We live in a strange new world where stating what should be blindingly obvious is often loudly condemned and can get you canceled. So three cheers for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for living up to its name by having the guts to state outright: “Genital mutilation of a child through (gender) reassignment surgery is child abuse, subject to all rules and procedures pertaining to child abuse.”

Our own county had to correct some of the covid numbers. And with the confusion that 'expert' Fausi caused with his 'do this' , 'no do this', no do that' blathering, I've done a LOT of investigating from other well known doctors whose opinions of masks, lack of knowing what is in the vaccine, it works, no wait, you might still get sick, no you can't infect other people, wait, you might be able to infect someone.Sick of it all.
I myself have had some really bad reactions to pharmaceutical meds, and started using mostly natural methods of healing for many years already. I'm 79 years old and don't need to take anything that 'might' have side effects , and am a few years past taking orders from anyone who pretends to know more about my own health than I do.
I live on an acre of land that I mow constantly, inbetween rain showers. I still struggle with dead tree limbs falling from trees that were damaged in Hurricane Harvey in 2017, went through the terrible ice storm that killed more trees this winter, and am struggling trying to keep up with lawn equipment on my social security check. I don't have a lot of time to congregate and with all the mold in my yard, I'm around 'germs' all day long every day....as most of us are.

I hate to sound stingy, but I have made a token donation to your precious daughters efforts, and pray that she will win!!!

I have a family, both sides, (mom and dads) of close to 400 relatives (we had reunions before the 'germ' appeared), and I'd be willing to lay odds that maybe 10 or fewer ever voted democrat. God bless all of you who are with us, to try to save this precious country. Thank you for keeping us informed and God Bless and keep you.

Finally a really good article about the political death of the Republicans. Should include the Democrats also. Both parties are awaiting their burials now. The minorities have deserted their Democrat slavers. The Republicans have the cash now. Many of us, both Christians and pagans, are wide awake". We see all institutions as totally corrupt now and choose to stay on the side
Both the RNC and ActBlue rely on hyperbole and fear to keep the money flowing
Not me. I don't even give to church coffers anymore. The churches here are now part of big brother! Pacific Northwest

I agree that generally we should not celebrate the fall from power of a politician, but Andrew Cuomo may be the exception that proves the rule.

Stand by for the government of Italy to sue Cuomo for claiming to be Italian.

Remember when the Supreme court judge was being confirmed and some idiots said you should always believe a woman ? I have no idea whether his accusers are honest or not, however this man should be tried for the MASS MURDER OF 15000 elderly people. He knew exactly what he was doing when he sent the covid patients to the nursing home. President Trump sent him a ship hospital and he didn't use it. Franklin Graham also tried to help & was run out of town.

Governor Como's fiasco with the nursing homes if presented quite the teaching moment. Just as the name calling of President Donald Trump when he said that the Chinese Communists werethe villians in COVID spread although it is hard to comprehend that the French and United states were partially involve. What great lessons were not clearly defined

My biggest problem about this administration is bankrupting America.

Borrowing money from China that has to be paid back with interest is unreal. Those of us up in age won’t pay back, but our grands or greatgrands. He has no clue. Who is pulling his strings?
