I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

I love you. I love dogs - as you can see by my email. I trust you and think you’re great.

I don’t understand all that happened with the many votes to get McCarthy in but I thought it was very educational. I don’t particularly care for McCarthy but I think the hold out by the few will make him a better speaker and hopefully strengthen conservatives. A little humility can make one stronger and more appealing. I like that they stood up for what they believed would help us as opposed to blindly following a leader just because he or she was the one in charge. I don’t like anyone judging another person’s heart and calling them names - even if I don’t like them. Judge them by their actions sure but not their heart. It kinna hurt my heart that you appeared to do that. Maybe I’m wrong. If I am I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Like I said, I love you!

I pray the Republican Party will be united and individually and collectively self-evaluate themselves. As we all know United we stand, divided we fall. God bless America! ??

I absolutely applaud the efforts made to keep McCarthy from being Speaker of the House. He is a rhino and he is already proven not to be effective as was seen when Trump was president. I find your comments to be based on ignorance.

7 of the ones voting against McCarthy won't even be in office soon, so...what was their "beef"?

If we keep doing what we are doing we’ll get the same results. Finally a small group of Republicans found courage and stepped up! The only way we save our country is find the courage to change what is wrong with Washington! It’s going look ugly and messy but God can only help those who are willing to fight the good fight. I pray it is not too late.

I disagree with you and am very disappointed that you sound like all the media spokesmodels trashing these House reps for doing their jobs. These 20 are the patriots attempting to claw back their voices (our voices) and power in the House from the imperial Speaker position.

The current rules reduce our reps to useless faces in a crowd, eliminated floor debates, amendments, etc. The leaders make the plans and write the bills in the back rooms and force the votes through. And thus we get a trillion $+ Omnibus that no one has read.

Many of the other “republicans” agreed with what the brave 20 were doing, but were too afraid what McCarthy would do to them if they voted against him and he won. Is that a leader?.. and what about his lackey Mike Rogers openly threatening the 20 !!

These new rules could make a big difference in the working of the House. McCarthy “agreed” to them, but they must be voted on. Did he agree because he knew he could use tricks and threats against the members to keep from getting them passed?

I have not been impressed with McCarthy over the last number of years. I see him beholden to the money and the power. I hope he surprises me, since it looks like we are stuck with him.

The more I have read, watched, and learned, about the 20 Republicans opposing Kevin McCarthy for the Speaker job, the more I am in agreement with them. And have gained respect for them and the stance they have taken. They are fighting an uphill battle against a firmly entrenched system. I strongly agree that we need a change in Congress, not just another "go along and get along" Republican majority. Yeah, maybe Congress needs to be more dysfunctional. If nothing else, this disputed Speaker election has sent a VERY CLEAR message to Kevin McCarthy that there are people watching him, and will be holding him accountable to us American people. I see this is an indication that the "Freedom Caucus" members are part of a growing number of Americans that are sick and tired of the same old "go along to get along" bullshit that has taken over our system of government for so many years. Kevin McCarthy is not going to get by with being like Mitch McConnell and caving in to about all the Swamp's desires. Hopefully, Congress will now have to ACTUALLY hold federal agencies accountable by using their power to cut funding to these rogue and runaway 3 letter agencies ran by un-elected beauracrats. I think this drawn out vote has been a good thing for us Americans in the long run. And I kind of draw a bit of parallel to the Jan. 6th "insurrection" of two years ago. The DC Swamp has been screwing over us American people for years. And the "insurrection" sent a message to the Swamp that the American people have gotten tired of it! And that is why the Swamp has been going after the people that went into the Capitol so hard. The Swamp is sending back a message to us that it will not tolerate anybody resisting it.....
It's going to be interesting the next couple of years. I hope we get something good accomplished instead of more of the same that has been going on for too long.

Republicans MUST STOP their INFIGHTING, and develop LEADERSHIP as a BODY.

I usually agree with you Governor but on this issue I don’t. McCarthy needs to prove he is no longer a self serving Rhino. This to me was healthy debate.

It was not about the "Never Kevins." What you're missing, or ignoring, is those few GOP reps wanted to ensure that Kevin McCarthy wouldn't be business as usual, aka Deep State uniparty greed and corruption. I always saw you as a man of integrity, but maybe I've misread you. Are you, have you been a part of the long standing problem or do you really push for core conservatives values? I'd love to hear back from you.

Mike - I think you are wrong on this one. I do understand your position but I also am more than tired of our Republicans, when they do get in a position of power, doing little if anything worthwhile for the conservative cause. Some of the concessions they got from McCarthy are going to be helpful going forward. Without those concessions, I am doubtful that McCarthy would have done much going forward other than being a mildly more conservative than McConnell.
