I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

If an alligator was approaching your neighborhood playground and your neighbors were saying “oh, that’s just Ralph”, but you recognized that it wasn’t Ralph, would you continue to sound an alarm? The Republican holdouts who were blocking McCarthy’s election to Speaker weren’t focused on McCarthy but on returning some of the Dem-ejected rules of House conduct to their traditional and significant functions. And shame on anyone who heard the Dems saying “what a circus” and agreed. Dem leaders and influencers are out to destroy all things good and decent and common-sense, from the simplest law to our country itself. They are shameless, immoral, and more dangerous than anything bad that can be imagined.

Mike, you’re sounding like you don’t mind swampiness. Those 21 are brave patriots and accomplished some huge much needed changes. I’m disgusted with your attitude.

I'm sorry Mr. Huckabee sir......I will have to disagree with you on this one. He is "in my opinion" a sell out. He is a confirmed member of the WEF and that Nazi - Klaus Schwab has endorsed him. That only means one thing to me. Mark my words if he is elected speaker of the house because the rest of these Republicans are strong armed into giving in.......he will be 10 times worse than that Rino Paul Ryan. I'm certain Mr McCarthy will eventually be elected speaker.......but it will not be for the better of us - the American people. It might as well be Pelosi they are voting for.

Name one concession that was not an improvement in good government that resulted from the delay.

I am very disappointed in your name calling of those who disagree with you - I am not a tot, and Mr. McCarthy could have ended the delay by agreeing up front what he continued to reject until the 15th vote. The delay is on him. Shame on you for not recognizing the reality of the end game. Hope your daughter doesn't cave turn into the Neville Chamberlain you seem to praise.

McCarthy's concessions make the effort of the 20 conservative hero's, well worth their effort. They deserve our respect and gratitude. I normally agree with you, but not this time.

    Hello Governor Huckabee,
My wife and I watch your weekly show on TBN and we love it! SO MUCH GOOD there!!
I read your column on Kevin McCarthy for Speaker, and while I agree with most of what you say, I would offer one tiny voice of correction. IF the conservatives did not hang on as long as they could, they would have not gotten ANY concessions from the GOP. The Liberals (and half the GOP) would simply steamroller over them, and push them aside. My wife and I know Mary Miller, our kids went to school together in Oakland IL. We live in an age where true conservatives have to FIGHT for every inch of the playing field they get, then Fight more to hold onto it.
I Pray for our Country, and our leadership at every level of government.
I also pray for blessings for you and your family, your daughter who worked for the president, seemed so nice! (Your Dogs Seem Nice TOO!)
    Keep Up The good Work!
We wrote because we have never disagreed with you before, (and really I do not think we do now).
We just wanted to share a little different perspective.
I have been a United Methodist Pastor for 53 years (Active and Retired), and I have seen what the liberals do to conservatives!
So, Again, Best to you and ALL your Staff and Family.
    God Bless,
    Martin and Anne Gutzmer

While these 20 did not have enough votes to win they achieved (hopefully) changes such as no more omnibus bill’s & allowing reps more voice in placing amendments on bills etc. I don’t want a party that just marches in lock step like Pelosi’s Dems did
