Republican Rep. David Valadao wins

Today, we enter week three since Election Day, and we still don’t have the results from a number of races, although at the moment, the Republicans officially have 219 House seats, one more than needed to take the majority.

Seat 219 was secured when Republican Rep. David Valadao won reelection by 52-48%. It’s an interesting back story: Valadao is one of only two Republicans who voted to impeach Trump to be reelected, and he won in a California district with registration that’s +17% Democrat.

Meanwhile, despite media outlets rushing to call races for Democrats, the Arizona election aftermath is looking as messy, and possibly illegal, as the aftermath of a drunken biker gang party.

The state Attorney General’s office is questioning Maricopa election officials, “losing” GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has martialed a team of attorneys and is urging supporters not to give up, and losing Republican Primary candidate Josh Barnett is calling for the entire election to be nullified.

Barnett says that not only did machines malfunction, causing long delays and disenfranchisement of voters, but he accused the Maricopa County Recorder of lying when he said the machines were certified, because they were certified by a company that was not accredited as required by state law, which makes every vote cast on them illegal.

I keep hearing people ask, “What’s going to happen in 2024?” Well, maybe by then, if we’re lucky, we’ll finally know the results of the 2022 elections.

A tough winter

I worry that this week’s most-expensive-ever Thanksgiving dinners (up 20% from last year, and that’s if you serve the Weight Watchers-size portions used to calculate the cost) will be only the beginning of a very tough winter for many Americans.

The Northeast is already getting hammered with snow and freezing temperatures, and residents are discovering yet another harsh, negative repercussion of voting for Democrats. Diesel and home heating oil, once cheap and plentiful under Trump, are now in short supply and at record high prices. People who can’t afford $1000 a month to keep their homes livable are bundling up in blankets and shivering. One family described their house as being like living in an igloo (cue the cries of outrage over cultural appropriation.)

It’s interesting that this story originated with CNN, which listed some of the factors contributing to this chilly outrage (the war in Ukraine, etc.) yet somehow failed to mention that the President they labored so hard to elect declared war on America’s energy industry the minute he took office, and this is the inevitable result.

Along with “Get woke, go broke,” we need to add a new truism: “Vote blue, turn blue.” This might result in even more New Yorkers moving to Florida, but try to remember: vote for red, the color of warmth, not blue, the color of freezing in the dark.

Incidentally, for those who claim this is somehow the surprise result of unpredictable circumstances, please note that many of us have been warning about it for nearly two years. And some of us remember living through it already under Jimmy Carter, formerly known as the worst President of our lifetimes. Here’s a musical reminder from 1978 that fans of the Dr. Demento show might recall. It’s eye-opening that people who listened to Dr. Demento saw this problem coming more clearly than Biden’s top energy officials.

Turning the lights on

As Republicans prepare to take back the House and flip the lights on, the cockroaches are already scurrying to the baseboards in anticipation of exposure. Some of that takes the form of Democrat sycophant media outlets like CBS suddenly “discovering” that, oh my gracious, Hunter Biden’s laptop is REAL!! Or suddenly “noticing” the deterioration of President Biden’s cognitive functions, because they fear they’ll need a good excuse to ease him out of office to avoid impeachment.

Then we have those like utterly shameless sociopath Adam Schiff, who hopes to use the lame duck session of Congress to abuse the illicit powers of the January 6^th Kangaroo Kommittee one more time to charge former President Trump with criminal actions based on the no evidence they’ve presented thus far.

It’s worth noting that if trying to stop the certification of a Presidential election is a criminal offense, then someone had better hurry up and charge the Democrats’ likely new minority leader before he can take office.

Thankfully, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy has made it clear that a first order of business will be removing Reps. Ilhan Omar, Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from their committees. Not just their leadership positions, but kicking them off the committees entirely, all of which are overdue. If Nancy Pelosi had any sense of ethics, she would have done it long ago.

Predictably, Omar is crying “Islamophobia” and “racism,” and the others will claim they’re being unfairly targeted by partisans (try to contain your laughter at that irony.)

But here are the facts: Ilhan Omar is an America-hating socialist and open anti-Semite who has no business being on the Foreign Relations Committee. Eric Swalwell is on the House Intelligence Committee, even though he is compromised by his relationship with a (since disappeared) female Chinese spy. As GOP Rep. Vern Buchanan put it so eloquently, he’s “privy to some of our nation’s most classified secrets” even though he “couldn’t get clearance to be a mall security guard.” I think that job would also be beyond his abilities.

And if anyone belongs in an orange jumpsuit in the Big House instead of a two-piece suit in the People’s House, it’s Adam Schiff. For years, he’s disgraced Congress with his naked partisanship, slanderous lies, false accusations and manufactured “evidence.” He’s made Sen. Joe McCarthy look like an amateur. Every time one of his hoaxes implodes, he just moves on to the next, which he flails with the same phony righteous indignation and zero contrition. 

But don’t take my word for it. The FDA and Ivermectin

During the pandemic, some doctors argued that a treatment that included the drug ivermectin could have saved up to half the patients who died of COVID. The FDA’s response was that Ivermectin was not approved for COVID, and they joined the media in ridiculing these doctors and their patients (remember Joe Rogan?), depicting ivermectin as a “horse dewormer.” Doctors were afraid even to try it for fear of losing their licenses or reputations.

Now, three doctors who were disciplined for prescribing human-grade ivermectin are suing the FDA, asserting that their actions against ivermectin went against well-established law and practice regarding the off-label use of FDA-approved drugs.

Well, guess what? Suddenly, the FDA claims that all their statements badmouthing ivermectin were “not directives. They were not mandatory. They were recommendations.  They said what parties should do. They said, for example, why you should not take ivermectin to treat COVID-19. They did not say you may not do it, you must not do it. They did not say it’s prohibited or it’s unlawful. They also did not say that doctors may not prescribe ivermectin.”

It reminds me of Gene Wilder in “Young Frankenstein,” screaming, “Don’t you people know a JOKE when you hear one?!!” Except it probably wouldn’t seem so funny to those doctors’ patients, had they survived. Chalk this up as one more reason why there should be no “COVID amnesty” for the people who let their arrogance and love of power take priority over trying anything reasonable that might have potentially saved lives.
