Bombshell

The media love to trumpet “bombshell” stories. Well, here’s a real “bombshell” that blew up in the media’s faces.

Monday, the Washington Post retracted its “bombshell” story from January that during a phone call, President Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find the fraud” in the 2020 election, and he’d be a “national hero.” It was treated as evidence of Trump pressuring a state official to overturn the election results. It was even cited as grounds for his impeachment.

But on Monday, WaPo admitted that a full recording of the phone call had been found in the “Trash” folder of a Georgia official’s computer, and it proved that Trump never said those things.

As Matt Margolis of PJ Media notes at the link, WaPo’s slanderous slice of fake news wasn’t even the worst thing about this journalistic malfeasance. Not only did WaPo claim to have verified the story via an “anonymous source,” but NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS and USA Today all later claimed to have also verified the Trump quote via their own “anonymous sources.”

That’s the “quote” that Trump never said. And the “sources” were what the rest of us might call “phony hearsay in support of a lie.” (Incidentally, why didn't Raffensperger debunk this story?)

So when reporters from outlets such as CNN (which spent over two years relentlessly pushing the “Russian collusion” hoax) try to argue that conservative media outlets should be deplatformed because they distribute “misinformation,” ask them if their famous “anonymous sources” have verified that for them.

Big Tax Increase

Well, that didn’t take long: President Biden is pushing for a big tax increase, a rise in the corporate tax rate from 21 to 28 percent, with a 15% minimum tax “on the book income” for big companies. This is on top of the personal income tax hike he wants to put on people making over $400,000 a year.

While this “sock it to the rich” class rhetoric sounds good to some voters, it’s the type of punch that misses the target, circles back and hits you in your own teeth.

Biden’s corporate tax hike would give the US one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, making the US less competitive with other nations and once again incentivizing companies to move overseas and take their jobs with them. Not to mention having to raise prices for their products, so we’d all get to pay for it.

The Tax Foundation analyzed the effects of Biden’s tax hike. You can see the details at the link, but here’s the gist: it would raise $3 trillion in federal revenues, but it would reduce the size of the US economy, lower after-tax income for all Americans at all income levels, and result in over 500,000 fewer fulltime jobs over the longterm.

Biden wanted to reverse all of Trump’s policies, and he certainly is. Trump was the pro-jobs, pro-border security, anti-abortion President, and Biden is the pro-abortion, anti-border security, anti-jobs President.

The Left politicizes everything

If AOC can claim to be traumatized by being evacuated from her office because there was violence taking place in a building a half a block away, then imagine the fuss that Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene could’ve put up after the Congress member from Guam led a group of uniformed Guam National Guard troops to her office to protest her mistaken reference to Guam as a foreign country.

Fortunately, she wasn’t there at the time (I mean, fortunately for the Congress member from Guam, since his troops probably couldn’t have protected him from her.)

On the serious side, along with putting “woke” social engineering ahead of military readiness, investigating their own troops for dangerous conservative sympathies, using Guard troops as a prop to surround the Capitol, and publicly attacking Tucker Carlson for criticizing them…

…this is yet another chilling example of how the left’s politicization of everything has now infected the military. If you’d like to be thoroughly depressed, read Rod Dreher’s lengthy article at The American Conservative, “US Military: Social Justice Warriors,” and learn just how woke/left/”progressive” our military “leadership” has become. You might be shocked at what they’re pushing, promoting, ordering and forcing troops to read, in defiance of logic, common sense, American values and military preparedness.

Dreher warns darkly that having infiltrated and taken over every other powerful institution (education, publishing, media, entertainment, social media, tech, the federal government), the left has now taken over the last one standing between them and the Constitution: the military.

I like to hope that the courts, the states and the individual troops will provide a bulwark until the voters can kick the radical leftists out of power. But if the Senate passes HR1 (the “Legalize Vote Fraud to Cement Democrats in Power Forever Bill”), that might become impossible. So if you are in a state with a Democrat Senator – or, since the Dems may not care what voters think, a wobbly Republican like Mitt Romney – you had better let them know in no uncertain terms that this bill needs to have a stake driven through it and be buried deeper than Dracula.

Latest Victim of Woke Witch Hunters

The latest victim of the woke witch hunters is (former) Georgetown University adjunct professor of law Sandra Sellers. During a Zoom call with another professor, the 20-year veteran teacher said that she felt “angst” because “every semester” many of her lower grade-earners were black. The call was leaked, and she was immediately branded as a racist who gave black students low marks because they’re black (which was not what she said.) The furious activists demanded that she be fired immediately with no hearings or investigations or chance to explain. And the craven administrators did just that, in violation of their own rules.

They also placed the other professor on leave for “complicity” in the alleged racism, for not…I don’t know what, not screaming at her that she was a racist or reporting her to the authorities or something. He eventually felt forced to resign, and did.

What she was probably talking about, if I had to guess, is a situation that a number of black academics and commentators have decried: top schools that lower admission standards to get more black students, but then those students have a hard time keeping up and drop out. That does a disservice to them, since if they’d gone to another college that was equipped to help them catch up, they could’ve gotten their diplomas. That situation harms black students, but now, teachers will be afraid to even bring it up for fear of being branded racists.

Instapundit blog master and law professor Glenn Reynolds also made a point that’s little known to the general public: adjunct professors of law are unusual in that they generally continue to practice law and are paid as little as $5000 a semester for teaching. They’re doing colleges a favor by taking that job for so little money. But if they think they’ll be risking having their reputations and careers destroyed by mobs of crazy leftist students falsely accusing them of racism, they’ll start telling universities to go whistle up a rope and there will be no more adjunct professors to teach law classes.

But considering the famous description of law class by Prof. Kingsfield in “The Paper Chase” (“You come in here with a skull full of mush, and you leave thinking like a lawyer”), I wonder if that’s even possible with some of the current student body.
