Breaking: Uvalde, TX school shooting
A mass shooting occurred in Uvalde, TX, this afternoon at Robb Elementary school. Please keep this small community outside of San Antonio in your thoughts and prayers as they grapple with this horrific tragedy.
San Francisco Archbishop bars Pelosi from taking Communion.
I’m not sure if Whoopi Goldberg is Catholic, although she did play a fake nun in two “Sister Act” movies. But I don’t think that gives you sufficient theological training to determine that it’s not the Archbishop of San Francisco’s job to bar Nancy Pelosi from taking Communion because she’s aggressively pushing to legalize abortion right up to the minute of birth.
Actually, it is his job. She has a point that Communion is for sinners, but it’s for sinners who are repentant and seeking God’s forgiveness, not for those who openly embrace the sin and are trying to codify it into law. Also, while I’m not a Catholic, I don’t think “dude” is the proper way to address an Archbishop.
As Nick Arama at Redstate.com points out, Pope Benedict once wrote that church leaders are to meet with politicians who are defying holy teachings and try to bring them back to God’s law, but if they reject that guidance, they should not be admitted to Holy Communion.
The Archbishop called Pelosi’s strong advocacy for “something as evil as abortion” while claiming to be a devout Catholic and taking Communion both a scandal and confusing. He said it creates confusion among people who “can begin to think that it is acceptable for a Catholic to believe this.” He said, “I think her faith really is important to her. It really is important to her to be Catholic, and she feels devotion in her heart. Which makes me perplexed at why she would be so forceful on this issue as a politician.”
I won’t be so presumptuous as to guess what’s in her heart, but this seems like the ultimate example of what’s called “Cafeteria Catholicism.” That’s where you accept certain parts of the religion that you like and just pass over the others. But you can’t do it and claim to be a “devout Catholic,” especially when one of the dishes you’re passing over is the church's main course, which is the sanctity of life.
Least Popular President
FiveThirtyEight.com reports that on the 489th day of his presidency (and that number seems so much higher), Joe Biden’s approval/disapproval rating is 41% to 54.6%. That officially makes him the least popular President since World War II. If he doesn’t stop talking, he might also become the least popular President of World War III.

I know what you’re thinking: were Presidents before World War II actually worse than Biden?! No, of course not. It’s just that scientific polling began with Gallup in the 1936 elections, when FDR was running again, and he remained President through World War II. I’m pretty sure if there were earlier polls than that, Biden’s approval rating would be safely below those of Grover Cleveland or James K. Polk.
Interesting Data
This is interesting data from the latest McLaughlin & Associates survey of likely voters for the Crime Prevention Research Center. It found that the people who have the most say over making gun laws know less than the average American about guns and violent crime.
For example, only 7.9% of violent crimes involve guns. But the average Democrat estimates that the number is 56.9% (Republicans were slightly less wrong at 37%). Among the highest over-estimators were those who make over $250,000 a year (they guessed 56.1%) and people who work for the government (51%.)
Interestingly, when asked to choose the best of three methods for dealing with violent crime – more gun control laws, stricter enforcement of current gun laws, or have police focus on arresting violent criminals – only 8% wanted more gun control laws. Fifteen percent wanted stricter enforcement of existing gun laws, and a whopping 71% said the best way to fight violent crime was to arrest violent criminals. That's the exact opposite of the tactics "progressive" DA's in blue cities are using.
I think this is another reason why Bill Buckley said he’d rather be governed by the first 500 names in the Boston phone book than by the faculty of Harvard.
“Supernature”
It’s possible that Netflix execs finally grew a spine and told their whiny woke employees that they might want to find jobs elsewhere largely because of one coming attraction: the new Ricky Gervais comedy special, "Supernature." He makes fun of the radical transgender movement even more than Dave Chappelle did, and the trans activists are already throwing a fit about it.
But try as they might, the leftist mob can’t “cancel” Ricky Gervais because he created “The Office.” There’s a version of that show in practically every nation on Earth, where it’s always a hit, so he literally has royalty money pouring in from every direction. Like Elon Musk, he can't be canceled, which makes him free to laugh at their threats -- and to inspire us all to do likewise.
More Twitter Disinformation
A troll on Twitter caused Costco’s stock to plummet by falsely tweeting that due to inflation, Costco planned to raise the price of its famous $1 food court hot dogs to $2.
He caused a panic among both Costco shareholders and the many Americans who are now living exclusively on $1 Costco hot dogs.
Davos Forum news
Bonchie at Redstate.com has a report on the World Economic Forum in Davos, where, as he perfectly puts it, the most arrogant and privileged people on Earth, a bunch of “mostly unelected mediocrities,” fly in on private jets to squeal about climate change, try to limit your red meat intake and plot world domination.
The most telling detail about this elite coterie of trust fund megalomaniacs is how open they are about declaring that the “pain is worth it” as they destroy economic systems that have lifted millions of people out of poverty and made life longer, healthier and more enjoyable, in order to replace them with their idiotic utopian vision of what the future should be. Notice that when they say that, it’s never themselves who will be feeling the pain. They’re bravely willing to make the sacrifice of all the rest of us feeling pain while they continue to live like kings.
You know who was another king who lived during a time when normal working people were suffering a lot of pain due to arrogant aristocrats? King Louis the XVI of France. The Davos attendees might want to Google him before they lose their heads over their plans to remake the world.
Brace yourselves before clicking on this
Here are descriptions and excerpts from seven children’s books that the New York City school board is pushing on kids as young as kindergarten age, promoting gay, lesbian, trans and “gender-nonconforming” lifestyles. Totally unrelated fact: enrollment in the New York City public school system has dropped by 1.2 million students since 2019.
