Give me a break
Democrats in Boston are trying to allow 16-year-olds to vote.
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/democrats-lower-voting-age-to-16-boston
So if you’re trying to keep up, here’s a primer: Democrats believe 16-year-olds are mature enough to vote, but anyone under 25 isn’t mature enough to own a gun, while people under 18 in Philadelphia are too immature to go out of the house after 10 pm, yet kindergarteners are mature enough to be taught about drag queens, gay sex and transgenderism. Got that?
Money to China?!?
President Biden’s Energy Department is touting a $200 million grant to Microvast Holdings to build a lithium battery facility in Tennessee with money from the “Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said it would "supercharge the private sector to ensure our clean energy future is American-made."
But the Washington Free Beacon reports that while the DOE says Microvast is a majority US-owned company headquartered in Texas, its financial records show that it operates primarily out of China, and that Microvast itself says the Chinese government "exerts substantial influence over the manner in which we must conduct our business activities and may intervene, at any time and with no notice."
Wow, good thing we have a President who’s on such close terms with China!
Don’t do it Republicans
The new GOP House hasn’t even taken office yet, and already, some Republicans are falling over themselves to compromise with Democrats on a bill to grant amnesty to about two million illegal immigrants. But another seven million could be added as “sponsored” dependents and extended family members.
At the link, Jim Thompson at Redstate.com details just some of the crushing costs that Americans are already bearing because of illegal immigration and Biden’s open border, and this would be yet another signal that ignoring America’s immigration laws and entering the country illegally will get you rewarded. Polls show that most Americans, including Hispanic Americans, want a secure border and less illegal immigration. If Republicans slap their own voters in the face with an amnesty bill, they will squander their tiny majority before they even get a chance to use it.
Eye-opening
The full transcript of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s testimony in a lawsuit brought by Missouri’s Attorney General has been released. Analysts are still combing through its 486 pages, but a few highlights were already released.
We’ve previously reported on Fauci’s flip-flops on masking and his reliance on a single source influenced by Chinese propaganda in calling for the US economy to be shut down over COVID. A couple of new points: he replied, “I don’t recall” 174 times (that’s a pretty foggy brain for someone who claims to BE “Science.”) And it turns out that his daughter used to work for Twitter, a fact that he seemed rather reluctant to admit.
Missouri Attorney General and U.S. Senator-Elect Eric Schmitt (R) said in a statement, “In our deposition with Dr. Fauci, it became clear that when Dr. Fauci speaks, social media censors. I invite everyone to read the deposition transcript and see exactly how Dr. Fauci operates, and exactly how the COVID tyranny that ruined lives and destroyed businesses was born.”
In a related story, we now know in hindsight just how those policies pushed by Fauci worked. In short, they were a disaster, with worse results than if we’d done nothing. For proof, look to Sweden, which was vilified worldwide for refusing to shut down its economy and impose a mask mandate. The “experts” accused Swedish leaders of setting the country up for mass death on an unprecedented scale.
The actual results: Between 2020 and 2022, the developed nation with the lowest excess mortality was…Sweden! During the pandemic, cumulative excess deaths in Sweden rose by 6.8%, compared to 18% in rigorously locked-down Australia, 24.5% in the UK, and 54.1% in the US.
As Dan Hannon writes at that link, it’s too late to do anything now except to face up to the fact that the so-called “experts” were wrong, their policies were a tragic disaster, and everything they put us through, from endless school closures to ruined businesses, was for nothing. But we can remember how so many people were eager to give up their rights and freedoms in exchange for a promise of “being led to safety” from the COVID hobgoblin (to paraphrase H.L. Mencken), and resolve to never -- NEVER -- allow it to happen again.
RIP Kirstie Alley
Our prayers and condolences go out today to the family of actress Kirstie Alley, who died yesterday at 71 after a battle with cancer that was only recently discovered.
https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/kirstie-alley-dead-71
The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress was best known for her role as the hapless Rebecca Howe on the classic sitcom “Cheers.” But she also had many other roles in hit movies and TV shows, including the “Look Who’s Talking” series, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” Showtime’s “Fat Actress,” and the TV movie “David’s Mother,” for which she won her second Emmy. She also displayed her own unscripted intelligence and sense of humor on countless game shows and on the Internet, where her brave support for Trump and other Republicans earned her scathing attacks by leftist cancel culture types, whom she took on and shot down with biting wit.
In a rare show of class, her Hollywood colleagues took to the Internet to praise Alley’s kindness, humor and generosity, even if some of them did feel the need to apply unnecessary caveats about “agreeing to disagree” on politics. You know, there are times when you should just set politics aside and focus on our common humanity, and this is one of them. Rest in peace to a brave, remarkable, beautiful and incredibly talented lady.
Time’s shortlist
Time magazine released its shortlist of contenders for its title of “Person of the Year.” As Nick Arama at Redstate.com points out, they must’ve had a lot of trouble coming up with candidates to pick some of these contenders. Seriously, Liz Cheney?
14 years in prison
Monday, in his latest criminal conviction, crooked lawyer Michael Avenatti was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison and to pay $7 million in restitution for defrauding his clients and obstructing IRS efforts to collect payroll taxes from his coffee business. The sentence will run consecutively with the five years he already received for stealing from client Stormy Daniels and attempting to extort Nike.

As Ed Driscoll at Instapundit reminds us at the link, Avenatti is the sleazeball whom our esteemed professional “journalist” class (the ones who pushed the Russia collusion hoax and who refuse to report on Twitter’s collusion with Democrats to rig an election) thought would make a FANTASTIC President of the United States!
I wonder why nobody listens to them anymore?
I JUST WANTED TO SAY
