BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY

The real story on Capitol breach? Don't hold your breath

By Mike Huckabee

Visitors to the U.S. Capitol these days --- and possibly, we’re told, even into the fall (!) --- might think they were entering a police state when they see the thousands of National Guard troops and miles of tall fences topped with razor wire. Democrats don't want the image of troops and fencing at the border, but it's a fine look for our Capitol.

Washington DC would traditionally be so beautiful in the coming weeks with masses of cherry blossoms setting off the historic architecture, but this year it'll look like an armed camp, and there’s just no legitimate reason for it. We’ve seen no evidence that the current threat level warrants this type of security, and we know the big military show is pure political gamesmanship. Indeed, there’s still much we don't know about the security breach at the Capitol Building on January 6 that served as the pretext for this.

Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, which is scheduled to hear testimony on Tuesday about safety precautions taken before the breach, sent letters on January 21 to those they wished to call as witnesses, including former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger, former House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving, and Metropolitan Police Department acting chief Robert Contee III. But according to Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, a member and former chairman of the committee, they have yet to hear back from either the former or active sergeants-at-arms in either the House or Senate.

"It would be far better if we were having this hearing on Tuesday with a lot of...testimony from the people who were involved, other than just news accounts. Right now, we’re going to be going into that hearing with what we’ve read in the newspaper,” he told Maria Bartiromo Sunday morning on FOX NEWS.

"We don’t have the base of information I would like to have before I would go into a hearing...I’m hoping we start getting some information from the people that were actually there and we get a full accounting of what actually happened,” Sen. Johnson said.

The problem he faces, as ranking member of the committee, is that Senate Democrats run the show (elections have consequences --- right, Georgia?) and are dragging their feet. In fact, they didn’t even send their own letters out to prospective witnesses until February 4. So Johnson seems to be anticipating little from Tuesday’s hearing. He’s looking ahead to the follow-up hearing.

About the only response committee Republicans have had, he said, is a letter Steven Sund sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “detailing a lot of the actions he took.” The senator also said they need to resolve some conflicting accounts; for example, one division of the FBI got some “pretty disconcerting warnings” ahead of January 6, but in a briefing the same day, the FBI said there was “really no suspected harmful activity.”

Sen. Johnson said people were caught by surprise and that what happened was “not foreseeable.” Well, isn’t that what we have investigations to determine?

What about the part of the Democrats’ narrative that says this was an “armed insurrection”? Just as we have repeatedly said here, Sen. Johnson observed that the term “armed insurrection” misrepresents what happened. “The fact of the matter is,” he said, “when I hear ‘armed insurrection,’ I think of firearms.” (Doesn’t everybody??) The senator is “just asking the question, how many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired. I know of one [the one that killed Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt], and I’ll defend that law enforcement official.”

He continued: “One thing about conservatives --- one thing about Republicans --- is we are consistent in our condemnation of violence, of peaceful protests that turn into riots. We want to see those people who were involved in violent acts prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That’s not the same standard that the Democrats use,” he said, pointing out that they excused and even encouraged riots over the summer that caused $1-2 billion in property damage and an estimated 12-19 deaths. He noted that Vice President Kamala Harris even promoted donating to a fund that bailed out rioters.

"The double standard,” Johnson said, “the unequal enforcement of the law, is really what troubles an awful lot of people on our side of he aisle.”

So, shouldn’t Speaker Pelosi herself be called in any hearing about what happened on January 6? We say YES. After all, she was the one in charge of Capitol Hill security. She could have had as much security for this event as her little heart desired, but for some reason this only seemed important to her AFTER the Capitol Building was breached. And now, the person she’s put in charge of her Capitol security “investigation,” retired Lt. Gen. Russell Honore, is as deeply partisan as they come; putting him in charge is no way to have an open investigation. I would say it’s not even possible.

Sen. Johnson agreed with our assessment, saying, “When it comes to Gen. Honore, I mean, take a look at his tweets, you take a look at what an extreme partisan he is...I don’t know the man [but] I think he’s the last person that ought to be heading any kind of investigation.” He said he and Lindsay Graham had called for a fair investigation that was completely independent of Congress, but “it’s difficult to figure out how to do that when you have a President that’s a Democrat and you have total control by a Congress of Democrats.”

Just as it was amidst allegations of election fraud, the lack of transparency is astounding.

Still, we already knew their strategy to be what Johnson said on Sunday: that the continuing military presence –- 5,000 National Guard troops –- and the miles of fencing topped with 'concertina' wire “is really meant to create a narrative that 74 million Americans who supported and voted for President Trump are suspected domestic terrorists or possible armed insurrectionists that the Capitol needs to be protected against.”

That narrative is a lie. “I’m not aware of a heightened threat level now that the inauguration is over,” Johnson said. Ohio Rep. Mike Turner, in an appearance later in Maria’s show, said the military presence is “absolutely unnecessary,” and that the American public know it. Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, is saying the same thing.

So, yes, the cherry trees are about to bloom in DC, and the Democrats are out of their blooming minds. (Too late to nip that in the bud.) And their false narrative will be reinforced at every turn. For an example, I’ll leave you with this commentary on legal double standards by the great Miranda Devine at the NEW YORK POST, who reports that on Monday, the opening day of his confirmation hearing, Biden’s attorney general nominee Merrick Garland will say he plans to personally supervise the persecution of the “white supremacists” who stormed the Capitol. I'm pretty sure he means Trump supporters.

Prayers For Senator Dole

By “Huckabee” writer Pat Reeder

Former Senator, Presidential candidate and heroic World War II veteran Bob Dole, 97, announced last week that he has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He will begin treatment on Monday. With characteristic humility and concern for others, he added, “While I certainly have some hurdles ahead, I also know that I join millions of Americans who face significant health challenges of their own.”

I hope you will join me in offering prayers for Sen. Dole and his family, and gratitude for his decades of public service.

Updates On New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Collapsing Chances To Win Another Emmy

By Mike Huckabee

CNN has ordered that there be no more fawning interviews of Gov. Cuomo by his brother, Chris Cuomo. So the news there is that CNN is gradually discovering journalistic ethics.

Also, with even New York Democrats calling for investigations and impeachment, a Queens Assemblyman accused Cuomo of calling him and threatening to destroy his career and reputation if he didn’t issue a statement to help cover up claims that nursing home COVID deaths were deliberately underreported to avoid a DOJ investigation. He told CNN (not to Chris Cuomo, I assume) that Cuomo said, “’We’re in this business together, and we don’t cross certain lines,’ and he said I hadn’t seen his wrath and that he can destroy me.”

No, this is not dialogue from “Godfather III.”

A Cuomo staffer denied that he said any of that. And how can you not trust a Cuomo staffer to tell you the truth?

Taliban Bombmaking Story Leads To A Question...

By Mike Huckabee

Normally, I would never make light of an accident that killed 30 people, but in this case, I just keep pondering the question, "Did they get an 'F' or an 'A'?"

"Unity"

More enlightenment on what the Biden Administration means when it says it wants “unity.”

Venezuela's “Democratic socialism”

By Mike Huckabee

Stop the presses! Having turned the abundantly-blessed nation of Venezuela into a starving, oppressive, bankrupt basket case, the government is finally, reluctantly, sort of admitting that socialism doesn’t work.

The socialist leaders took over a lot of industries that they had no idea how to run except into the ground. So now, they’re backing off on the socialist utopia delusion by offering to let private investors run them in exchange for a share of the revenue or products to the government.

It appears to be a baby step in the right direction, but it’s still not a return to capitalism and private enterprise. It’s just a tacit admission that socialists can’t run anything but their mouths, but still want to control companies run by competent people (why am I reminded of David Hogg’s fantasy leftist pillow company?)

From the Bloomberg story:

“Dozens of chemical plants, coffee processors, grain silos and hotels confiscated over the past two decades have been transferred -- but not sold -- to private operators in so-called strategic alliances, nine people with knowledge of the matter said. Managers cover payroll and investments, and deliver products and a percentage of their income to the government.

‘We believe this is positive because it is the synchronization of the public sector with the private sector,’ said Ramon Lobo, a legislator with the ruling socialist party and former finance minister. ‘The state acts as a supervisor and receives compensation.’

To translate that into English: “We want competent people to run these businesses we stole and ruined, but we still want to wield unaccountable power over them and get huge kickbacks.”

So it’s no longer socialism. It’s “Democratic socialism.”

Random Thought On The “Impeachment” Roll Call Vote

By Mike Huckabee

I don’t know if any of you watched that, but did you have the same reaction I did? Often, when someone said, “Guilty,” I was reminded of things they had done and said that made them even more worthy of impeachment under the same standard. Probably the most glaring moment of hypocrisy:

“Sanders…”

Bernie Sanders Thought Balloon: (Let’s see, do I think that a politician who uses incendiary, dehumanizing rhetoric about his opponents is personally responsible if some unbalanced person is “inspired” by that to launch a violent assault on members of the other party? Does a politician like that deserve to be impeached? Absolutely!)

“Guilty!”

There must have been at least 6 demonstrators at the capitol drunk or on drugs. A 6' 7" black guard said he was called racist names 6 times

Regarding the events at the Capital building on January 6, 2021: I have heard SO many comments and opinions from journalists, pundits and politicians regarding the activities of the crowd that day and they all sound so much alike(including yours) that I keep looking for a copyright symbol after them. They all seem to share a format that uses certain catch phrases, such as this(from my Senator): "the violent actions of the rioters directly resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including one police officer". Did they really? Who were these five individuals, and how did they die? I have been looking for answers to those questions, and I gotta tell ya, they aren't really apparent. Take what we "know"--one individual (definitely a nonpeaceful protester--or "rioter" as all media has decreed-- based upon available video footage) was shot, and one police officer died. But even details about those two deaths are sketchy at best, and conflicting. For example, the narrative, so often repeated that it MUST be true, that the officer died as a result of "having his head bashed in by a fire extinguisher" came from a NYT article that offered no evidence to back up the claim. There is NO footage of the woman's death, and no definite statement that I can find on what specific action on her part led to her being shot, or who did it. As for the other three, I am having a REAL hard time equating their deaths with violent actions on their part. One died from a stroke--and the last time anyone saw him was in a parking lot BEFORE President Trump's speech! One died of a heart attack, again at an undetermined point during the day, and no one is claiming that he was actually at the Capital Building, only that he intended to be. The last person was a woman who died of unspecified injures, although her family later claimed that she was crushed by the crowd in or around the Capital Building. That was not verified at the time that the family announced it, and, again, I have found no report that did.
Never the less, everyone in the media and in elected public office will tell you with absolute assurance that the violence of those Criminal Rioters was directly responsible for five deaths that day.
I will be honest with you; I have huge problem with the terminology used and the over simplification of the actions that occurred during that day. The hyperbole used to describe it has created an alternative universe that houses nothing more than the media telling of that event, and EVERY reference to it must insert that little block of text in whole cloth and question none of it. It is a foregone conclusion that everything transpired according to the media narrative that has been given, including the intentions and state of mind of all individuals who were present. I just don't buy it. Did individuals riot and act out in violence that day? Absolutely. Does that make all the people who showed up at the Capital Building that day rioters? Absolutely Not! Protesters? By and large, I would say yes. I read two interviews and multiple Facebook comments from people who were there and none of them were there for, nor did they commit, acts of vandalism. It is my considered opinion that the actions of a few individuals gave the media the excuse to paint the masses with the broad brush of violent criminals.
I would appreciate it if you would consider this if you have further occasion to refer to those people at that place. In light of all the other evidence that has been trickling in since that day that has already cast doubts on the accuracy of what had been reported, it seems to me that a little more thoughtful reservedness would be appropriate before dumping the entire crowd of people into one much too small basket.
I must confess that I am not without bias on this topic. I am one of the millions of Trump voters who firmly believe, not on emotions but on EVIDENCE, that this election was stolen. It is difficult to separate that belief and knowledge of the facts from your emotions, especially when you have such anticipation for the successful outcome of an election and the resulting benefit to the Nation that would have followed. This causes me to have a great deal of empathy for what the protesters were feeling when they marched on the Capital. Doesn't mean that I agree with the actions taken, but I certainly understand what motivated it.
That's all I got; I realize that I waxed WAY too long winded to be reprinted for purposes of responding to, but I would appreciate hearing your response none the less. Feel free to edit me down to a manageable size!

    Interesting stuff you shared today
What is so sad is many churches are noe "progressive" and many are closed as people are going to churches teaching a Biblical world view. They are better off closed permanently. My church is one that just follows church rituals and no Biblical world view taught or believed.
I hope you do research into Kamala's recent statement. Said the VA should be closed in the next 4 years and veterans all put to work! Many veterans are working and more honest and reliable than college educated soyboys!
Stated the money better used to help illegal aliens!
Like all my other posts you won't comment on this. It will offend your bosses

I just don’t understand how Trump is still being investigated, spending the people’s money. But joe Biden is known for the China money dealings and nothing is done! Where are the republicans investigating??? Never are, the democrats just keep getting away with everything! Maybe they are guilty of inciting people! People are fed up! Look what is happening to our country! Look at the Supreme Court! It used to be held in high esteem now political!

I would have no ideal who would be buying into business in Venezuela, but if I had that kind of money it would not be into anything that Venezuela had to offer, you can bet that just as soon as the business started making a profit that the Venezuela government would take it over again.
On a different note yesterday you mentioned how Kerry said we only have nine years left. Well if that is so then it really doesn't matter to the true church cause we are out of here, when Christ calls his church home.

    Hello Governor,

I enjoy reading your newsletter and look forward to reading it each day. Regarding today's article "Taliban Bombmaking Story Leads To A Question..." I have a couple more questions beyond the bombmakers' proficiency -- who is the Taliban planning to bomb next and where/what/who is the source of their financial resources. It seems the current U.S. Administration is uninterested in such questions as they appear hellbent to put Iran back on it's economic feet, thus facilitating its support of terrorism in the Middle East and around the world.

Governor, 3 Star general. LTG Honore has a glaring issue if you look at his uniform. He wears the Combat Infantry Badge which is issued to those who graduate from Fort Benning's Infantry training courses. Every infantry officer goes thru this course as a 2LT. However, for those who have served in a combat zone they will receive a star above their Combat Infantry Badge. Here is a man who appears to have not served in a combat zone even though the opportunities during his career were numerous. How could he possibly rise up to 3 stars yet avoid the combat zones? My guess is National Guard and political connections. The average person in the National Guard goes with his unit when deployed. We have had Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan where opportunities to serve were plentiful. How did he manage to evade battlefield experience? Maybe he has special talents allowing him to not be deployed? I hope someone will ask that question of him.
