BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY
FOLLOW-UP: Media DID ignore the real domestic terrorists
By Mike Huckabee
Yesterday, we ran a commentary about a story that I predicted would receive little news coverage, a vicious attack on the ICE headquarters building in Portland. I anticipated that it would receive scant attention because 1) it happened late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, and 2) it busted the fake leftist narrative of Antifa being a group of peaceful protesters while the real “domestic terrorists” were Trump supporters.
As it turned out, I was correct in thinking the story would be ignored. If it was covered even on FOX NEWS, we missed it. The lack of coverage was even worse than I’d predicted because yesterday’s news was dominated by breaking stories of violent encounters with law enforcement that had been automatically interpreted as --- what else? --- racist. That’s because, apparently, there is no other possible reason for these confrontations to end in violence. (Please don’t take this to mean I’m excusing the cops for these tragedies.) And once again, rioting and looting were breaking out in Minneapolis.
Anyway, the story of Antifa/BLM barricading the front door of Portland’s ICE headquarters with agents inside and setting the building on fire was indeed buried about as deep as it could go.
The one commentary I saw Monday in American media was from Tyler O’Neil at PJ MEDIA, and his headline describes what happened in the same way I had, calling it “attempted murder.”
O’Neil includes some additional tweets that went out that night, such as this one early on from independent journalist Grace Morgan: “Parts of the fence around the ICE facility in Portland OR have been dismantled by protesters and laid against the main entrances. Federal agents get on the loud speaker & warn not to trespass, including press.”
She’s referring to the chain link fence that was pulled up and used to block the front door, preventing agents from getting out of the building that way.
Recall that Andy Ngo tweeted that the officers were “trapped inside when Antifa set the building on fire.”
Agents were able to get out of the building through a back exit. It’s likely they’re alive only because fire did not block their exit through that door. Apparently, they were on their own; from tweets that were going on throughout the night, we know that the cops –- federal police in riot gear –- did not even get there till just before 2 AM.
According to the DAILY MAIL, the British news outlet that also actually ran a story, agitators appeared to have left the scene by about 2:30 AM. That story said the protesters appeared to have used a pile of wooden pallets to construct a makeshift bonfire in front of the burning building. According to Grace Morgan’s tweets, they crowded around in front of this fire chanting, “This is what community looks like.” Pictures and video of the whole blasted night are at the link.
As we reported, the police, once they finally arrived, fired pepper balls at the protesters to get them to disperse. “It’s unclear whether any arrests were made,” the DAILY MAIL story said. But as far as we know, what we reported early Monday morning still stands –- it seems clear that NO arrests were made.
Okay, we’ve got ICE agents barricaded inside a building and that building set on fire. While there needs to be an investigation, this looks on its face to be attempted murder, as I said yesterday. Today, we came across a commentary from last August, again from Tyler O’Neil, pointing out that Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said the same thing about a similar arson incident.
Oh, wait, I see. Wheeler was apparently referring to the look of the video coming out of Portland, concerned that it might function as “B-roll film” for the campaign to re-elect President Trump. No wonder he got involved. He told his audience, “Don’t think for a moment, if you are participating in this activity, that you are not being a prop for the re-election campaign of Donald Trump, because you absolutely are.”
I guess that now, with the election being over, that doesn’t matter, so Wheeler doesn’t have to bother with trying to stop the violence in his city.
At the time, Wheeler was speaking about a previous incident in which doors were barricaded and a building lit afire. “The attack was immediate, it was intentional, and it was planned,” he said then. "It was intended to cause serious injury or death, and it very well could have.” He called that incident “attempting to commit murder.”
In that case, it was a city building. “I believe that city staff could have died last night,” the mayor said. “This is not peaceful protest. This is not advocacy to advance reforms or transform any system.”
When Mayor Wheeler said this, the so-called “peaceful protests” had gone on for 70 days. Here’s what Portland had looked like just a few weeks earlier, in July, when Wheeler, echoing then-candidate Biden, directly blamed President Trump for the “flat-out urban warfare” going on and chastised police for their “unprovoked” (!) use of tear gas on protesters, when the cops were actually just doing their job by responding to arson.
We can thank the mayor for finally saying something in August, even if his motivation was to avoid helping Trump win the election that was just a few months away. But here we are again, the following April, and Portland has had another incident of what almost certainly was attempted murder. (Make that attempted MASS murder, if more than one or two agents were inside the building.) Has Wheeler even said anything about it? If he had condemned it, there likely would’ve been more than the sparse amount of news coverage it got.
But I guess that since Trump isn’t currently running for re-election and this latest “B-roll” won’t have any effect on who is President, Portland’s mayor isn’t even bothering to weigh in. Besides, with all the other violence in the news that can be spun to fit the leftist narrative, the real domestic terrorists –- not conservative Trump supporters but violent Antifa and BLM thugs –- can continue trapping people inside buildings and trying to burn them alive, and the news won’t even cover it.
Highways are racist!
By Mike Huckabee
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spins the Big Wheel of Random Oppression to determine the latest thing that's racist, and it clicks to a stop on…highways! Yes, racism is “physically built” into the US highway system.
It is true that you’re allowed to drive on the black parts of the highways, but you’re supposed to stay off the white stripes, so obviously there’s racism built into the highways. That wasn't what he was talking about, but I expect it to come next.
Meanwhile, a minor correction: Buttigieg claimed that the Biden “infrastructure” bill would add 19 million jobs to the economy. Only if you count the 16.3 million jobs that would be created by the economy even if the bill doesn’t pass at all.
The Perfect Example of COVID Craziness
By Mike Huckabee
These days, when a corporation does the right thing even when it’s “politically incorrect,” it deserves praise. So kudos to Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for refusing to turn away evacuees from the St. Martin’s volcano unless they’re vaccinated for COVID-19.
Yes, the government actually told people that they can’t get on a cruise ship to escape an erupting volcano if they haven't been vaccinated yet. If you're looking for a perfect illustration of how power-mad and irrational the people creating and enforcing COVID regulations have become, there it is.
For the Record
By Mike Huckabee
For the record: No, I don’t know why former House Speaker John Boehner felt it necessary to write a book trashing fellow Republicans, although I’m sure you could get a bigger advance for that than for a book trashing Democrats. But Sen. Ted Cruz doesn’t seem too bothered by it. My message to both of them: call off the circular firing squad and refocus on who your real opponents are.
BLM Update
By Mike Huckabee
Last week, we reported that Black Lives Matter co-founder and proud “trained Marxist” Patrisse Khan-Cullors purchased a $1.4 million home in Topanga Canyon, California, an extremely upscale area near Malibu with a black population of less than 2%.
Well, we stand corrected: The Daily Wire reports that there are actually two houses on the quarter-acre lot. Plus, she’s been on a regular real estate buying binge, purchasing a total of four homes for a combined $3.2 million. Khan-Cullors has also reportedly been looking at properties in an exclusive resort in the Bahamas where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods have getaways, and where properties are priced between $5 and $20 million.
All this has sparked backlash from local BLM leaders who want an investigation into how the group’s leaders are spending all those millions in donations that came pouring in from “woke” corporations last year. My writers and I looked into it ourselves, and I wish them good luck. You’ll find yourselves crawling into a confusing labyrinth of corporations and nonprofits, a “Foundation” that’s registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit but other branches that are not, hidden tax returns and refusals to answer questions from the media, and connections to various far-left PACs that, like parts of BLM, can’t register as non-profits because of their political activism.
It’s the kind of elaborate “hide the money trail” set-up that you’d expect from a trained capitalist with multiple mansions, not a trained Marxist. Or maybe that Marxist got just enough training to learn what all the most successful Marxists do: how to separate gullible leftists from their money.
National Pet Day
By Mike Huckabee
Sunday was National Pet Day, so I hope you spent some time petting your dog, pampering your parrot, hugging your hedgehog, or waiting on your cat hand and foot. Or as I call that last one, “a typical day for a cat owner.”
Tennessee Shooting
By Mike Huckabee
Monday at the Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, police responded to a call about a possibly armed male student. They ordered him to come out of the bathroom, but instead, he opened fire on them. The student was shot dead, and one officer suffered injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening. The school will be closed for at least two days. This is a developing story, so keep watching for more information as it becomes available. In the meanwhile, please pray for healing for the officer and comfort for the kids.
The Shooting Death of Daunte Wright
By Mike Huckabee
By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the tragic and disturbing police video of the shooting death of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black man detained in a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb on Sunday.
Wright’s death appears to be the result of a series of tragic mistakes and bad decisions. He was reportedly pulled over for having expired license plates, although his car did have temporary plates. When it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant and police began to arrest him, he started fighting and tried to escape. A female officer pulled out what she thought was a taser (she can be heard on video shouting “Taser!”), but was actually a pistol and she mistakenly fired and killed him.
In a city already on edge over the Derek Chauvin trial, it’s set off two nights of violence and looting so far (although reporters seemed more concerned about the police chief calling it “rioting” than in the victims of the obvious rioting.)
Some sources are trying to paint this as police targeting a black person, but the arresting officer was also black, and it seems clear that the killing was a horrible mistake. Yes, there should be an investigation, and the officer who made that mistake should face consequences. But there is no rational justification to conclude that it was a deliberate, racist killing, and certainly no justification to burn down and loot the businesses of people who had nothing to do with it.
Frankly, I’m tired of hearing people chant “No justice, no peace!” when they obviously have no interest in either. They have become rabid exponents of mob rule and such enemies of the rule of law that the local city manager was fired just for saying that everyone deserves due process and the officer shouldn’t be fired before an investigation.
Note that the story quotes a city council member who says the city manager was doing a great job and she respects him personally, but she voted to fire him out of fear of reprisals from protesters if she didn’t. There’s the city government openly admitting that the mob now runs greater Minneapolis and not the elected officials.
If you oppose due process rights for all, if you demand punishment before an investigation, if you believe angry mobs should be in charge of cities, and if you believe your anger justifies you looting and burning a business and destroying the dreams and livelihoods of completely innocent people, then please stop telling us that you demand justice if we want peace. You are an enemy of both.
A Reader Writes Back...
I agree that voters would be outraged about what the Left is doing but only if they KNOW what the Left is doing. The reason why Trump lost the last election is because so many people simply absorbed the curated media/celebrity propaganda. I currently see no reason why that would change in 2022. Most people, especially young people, just aren't paying enough attention. Your newsletter is great for those who bother to read it, but can't break through the information curtain of Big Tech and MSM.
