We hate to start the week with sad news, but over the weekend, we lost some prominent Americans, and we must pay our respects to them.
The family of former Utah Rep. Mia Love announced that she died peacefully Sunday after a years-long battle with brain cancer at the much-too-young age of 49.

The former mayor of Sarasota Springs, she was the first black woman Republican to be elected to Congress, serving from 2015 to 2019. She was a strong advocate for conservative and pro-life values, and could have had a bright future as a Republican leader if she hadn’t been struck down by cancer. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to her family.
We are also saddened to have to report that American icon George Foreman passed away Friday at 76, surrounded by his loved ones.

Foreman was one of the greatest examples of both the American ideal of having a “second act” and the Christian ideal of being born again. He started his career as an Olympic gold medal boxer, then became one of the most feared heavyweight champions ever to enter the ring. In 1974, he lost to Muhammad Ali in “The Rumble in the Jungle,” the most famous fight in history. But 20 years later, he staged the greatest comeback in boxing history by defeating Michael Moorer, a boxer 19 years younger, and again becoming heavyweight champion at a record 45 years old.
If his story had ended there, he would have had an amazing legacy. But that was just the beginning. This article from 2023 describes how, at the height of his boxing success, he realized there had to be more to life, and he had a life-changing conversion to Christianity and became a pastor. He said that after that, he devoted himself to evangelism and fighting to let people know about God.
Along the way, he also changed from one of the most feared men in America to a “gentle giant,” one of our kindest, funniest and most beloved public figures. He became a famous father and incredibly successful entrepreneur. There are probably many young Americans who know nothing about his boxing career, but who cook their dinners on a George Foreman Grill.
George Foreman wasn’t just a great American success story, he was two great American success stories. He may have left us, but he will never be forgotten.
We must also pay our last respects to former Wyoming Republican Sen. Alan Simpson, who died on March 14 at 93…
…And former Massachusetts First Lady Kitty Dukakis, wife of Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, who died Friday at 88 due to complications from dementia. We extend our sympathies and prayers to their families.
