A Texas Mass Shooting
We extend our deepest condolences and prayers for the victims of the horrific mass shooting Saturday at the Allen Premium Outlet Mall north of Dallas in Allen, Texas. The shooter got out of his car in black body armor and began firing an AR-15-like rifle in the parking lot. Eight people are confirmed dead and several others injured. The victims reportedly include children, but most names have not been released at this time, although we know that 20-year-old mall security guard Christian LaCour was among the fatalities. This tragedy hits particularly close to home for us since my writers live in the DFW area and have shopped at that mall, and one used to work in Allen and knows people who live there.
https://www.westernjournal.
As is our policy, I do not name people who seek fame by killing others, so I won’t mention the shooter’s name. That’s about all we know about him, other than he was discharged from the Army due to mental health concerns. He reportedly worked as a security guard. There’s an investigation underway to see if he was a member of a right-wing, neo-Nazi group, which some liberal politicians and media figures quickly leaped on, even before the video suggesting it was verified.
They are clearly hoping for this narrative, since it would make the tragedy easier to exploit politically than recent shootings by leftwing radicals. But if he was a white supremacist, he was an unusual one, since he has a Hispanic name and authorities reportedly needed a translator to talk to his parents. I will give credit to the New York Times for reporting that his motives “remain a mystery.” That didn’t stop President Biden from immediately using the shooting as a reason to call for Congress to pass another “assault weapon” ban.
Personally, I am going to wait until we know more and not leap to conclusions or try to stand on bodies to make political points. The one name I wish I could trumpet to the Heavens, but he’s yet to be identified, is the heroic police officer who was at the mall on an unrelated call when he heard all the gunfire. Frantically calling for backup, he ran toward the sound of the gunshots, engaged the shooter, and as the Allen Police Chief put it, “neutralized the suspect” before any backup arrived.
https://nypost.com/2023/05/07/
Now, that is how a real police officer does his duty. As terrible as this tragedy was, it could have been far, far worse if not for a good guy with a gun and guts being on the scene.
Sadly Related: Derek Hunter at Townhall.com writes about the selective outrage from the left in which the deaths of certain people are treated as more or less important depending on whether they can be exploited politically:
Left-wing leaders are stirring up the mob
Even as Democrat demagogues like AOC and Ayanna Pressley stir up mobs by declaring the death of the homeless New York black man Jordan Neely to be “murder” and a “lynching”…and as those mobs are taking the bait…
…we are learning more that undercuts their rush to judgement. For instance, someone found a 2016 video of Neely (who has been benignly described not as someone with over 40 arrests who was threatening subway passengers but as a “Michael Jackson impersonator”) losing his temper at someone who made fun of him in the street and attacking the man while screaming gay and racial slurs.
Lawyers for ex-Marine Daniel Penny, who might face charges for Neely’s death, released a strong statement denying that he intended to kill Neely and could not have foreseen his death.
And a full video of the subway incident undermines the leftist narrative, showing that Penny released Neely from the submission hold and put him in recovery position so he could breathe, and that other passengers thanked him for ending the threat to their safety.
In fact, Breitbart reports that as more is becoming known about this incident, and people are starting to question why a mentally ill person who’d been arrested over 40 times was still walking around free to threaten people on the subway, some Democrats are quietly backing away from trying to politicize his death for fear it will shine a light on their policies and backfire.
I’d just like to add one other point: AOC seems to totally disregard the idea that the passengers on that subway felt threatened, or that Penny might have felt it necessary to subdue Neely. Why not just “reason” with him? But here’s my question: would AOC have reacted that way if she’d been trapped on a subway car with a mentally-deranged homeless criminal who was openly threatening to hurt her?
I think we can safely assume she wouldn’t, since she also claims to have suffered severe trauma due to fear of losing her life simply because she was in a separate building a block-and-a-half away from the Capitol on January 6th. I assume that if she’d been in that subway, she would have wanted her armed security guards to do whatever it took to protect her. After all, her life is precious.
In search of a debt ceiling deal
The leaders of the House and Senate are supposed to meet this week with President Biden at the White House to discuss a deal to raise the debt ceiling and curtail spending (and while it’s really the House that will determine the fate of the deal, I’m glad to see Mitch McConnell is taking my advice not to go all wobbly.)
However, with spending cuts being to Democrats what garlic is to Dracula, Biden is reportedly considering trying an end run to force through a raise in the debt ceiling without cutting spending or consulting Congress, by misrepresenting the 14th Amendment. This link explains the reasoning, such as it is:
I’m not surprised that Biden would attempt to do an end-run around Congress, since his former boss Barack Obama made such a specialty of it that he should've won the Heisman Trophy. Obama, however, was not dealing with Speaker McCarthy. This runaround could end up running into a brick wall, as it should.
Russia sets off a panic
I hate to give you anything else to worry about, but Russia set off a “mad panic” by ordering an evacuation of the area around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
https://www.foxnews.com/world/
This is being taken as a possible sign that Russia plans to intensify fighting in that area, because only really brilliant military tacticians would plan to drop a lot more bombs around a giant nuclear plant.

Building railroads...in Saudi Arabia
Even though we seem to be having serious problems with keeping American trains on their tracks, Biden Administration officials met over the weekend with leaders in Saudi Arabia to discuss facilitating a railway infrastructure project in the Middle East. That news didn’t go over well with American railway workers.
Railroad mechanic Alec Lace appeared on Fox News and let Biden have it in such colorful terms that you really need to see this.
Here are a couple of excerpts to whet your appetite:
“The railroad system in America is like a technology museum. If you want to get into a time machine and see what technology was like 10 years ago, go to any railroad in the United States. Every time we get a new piece of technology or equipment, by the time it goes through all the red tape, all the regulations and actually gets to us on the rail, it's five years out of date already. So now we're going to go and stick railroad ties in the desert over in the Middle East. This is why people embrace America First. Let's take care of the American railroad first before we go over there and start building, what a highspeed rail over there? We don't even have that here in the United States yet.
And on a more personal level…
"Joe Biden has made a lot of enemies with the railroad workers. This is a guy that campaigned from the basement telling the railroad workers, 'Hey, I'm one of you guys, I'm Railway Joe, I'm Choo-Choo Charlie, I am with you guys.' And then what happens? He stabs us in the back by turning down the package that would have gave the railroad workers seven days of sick pay. Now, Joe Biden takes seven sick days a week."
It sounds as if he didn’t get the message from President Biden that he knows more than anyone else.
New standards for washing machines and dishwashers
Speaking of people who’ve warmed a chair in DC for decades thinking that they know more than people who actually do the things they regulate, brace for dishwashers and washing machines to start costing more and doing a worse job. In the name of saving the climate by giving us all salmonella, Biden’s Energy Department is proposing new standards to require dishwashers to use over a third less water and 27% less energy. For washing machines, they want to decree that the central agitator be removed (I can think of other agitators the government should remove first) and other changes that would eliminate 98% of all current top-loading machines and add $200 to the cost.
https://www.washingtontimes.
The government claims this will save consumers on energy costs, but what about the higher costs of buying the machines, and of water, power and detergent when you have to wash everything two or three times, the same way they tried to “save water” by mandating “low-flo” toilets that have to be flushed repeatedly?
The makers of these appliances say it will result in higher costs, worse performance and machines that look like something from the 1950s. So once again, leftists want to turn the USA into Cuba.
If people who actually design these machines were able to build some that used that much less water and power and still worked, don’t you think they’d rush them to market themselves? But all it takes to rewrite the laws of physics is some arrogant DC activists who’ve probably never washed their own clothes in their lives.
Of course, we shouldn’t question President Biden. After all, he assures us that after half a century in politics, he knows more than anyone else. I guess that includes knowing more about washing machines than the Maytag Repairman.
California Reparations
The California Reparations Task Force recommended that the state issue an apology for slavery and pay every black resident of the state $1.2 million in reparations.
It’s not exactly clear how they would do this, considering their full package would cost $800 billion and California is already looking at a $22.5 billion budget deficit. Or why they would do it, considering California never had slavery and is about 600 miles away from the nearest state that did. But never underestimate the power of liberal guilt. As for my advice for California taxpayers, all I can say is that If I owned a business in California, it would already be in Arkansas by now.

The Country’s In The Very Best of Hands!
With Title 42 set to expire within days, a surge of illegal border crossers is already overwhelming border towns with thousands more behind them.
There are already so many illegal immigrants in the US that even all the way up north in Chicago, police station lobbies are being used to house them.
And why are hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants pouring across the border? We could ask the man in charge of securing the border, DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas. Oh wait: he was asked that question on Friday and claims that he just can’t explain it.
https://www.breitbart.com/
I guess we’re even since I can’t explain why he still has that job.
The war on AM radio
There’s a war being waged that most of the media are studiously ignoring, and that’s the war on AM radio. There’s a big push on to eliminate AM radios from cars, on the pretext that electric cars interfere with AM frequencies (there aren’t that many electric cars – at least not yet, and I’m skeptical that there will be, once people learn more about them; plus the radios can be shielded from the interference.) Also, the government and industry entities pushing this say it’s no biggie, people can stream the AM stations over their phones (those who pay for unlimited streaming, so it will no longer be free.) Or get them from an HD radio subchannel, if you have that.
Jeff Crouere at Townhall.com sounds an alarm about this and what many see as the real reason behind it: silencing AM radio that’s one of the few outlets for conservative news and talk.
If you don’t think the left is panicked over minority voters getting unfiltered news from conservative radio, remember this story from last year about a leftwing Soros-back media company buying up a chain of Spanish language community radio stations whose hosts were talking too much about how much better Hispanics did under Trump.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/
But rather than concentrate on the assault on conservative talk, some are suggesting a different tactic, and it’s right out of Saul Alinsky: force your opponent to live up to his own standards. We should be hammering away on the fact that in any major city, a large number of AM radio stations serve the minority community. For instance, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, listeners can pick up over 40 AM radio stations. Only four air conservative talk, while 19 serve blacks, Asians and other minority communities.
Why are liberal politicians and bureaucrats and woke corporations trying to silence the voices of minorities in our cities by killing their AM radio stations? Why are they trying to force these stations onto outlets many minorities don't have, and destroy the value of minority-owned radio stations? I think we all deserve answers to those question from these blatant racists.
Richard Dreyfuss speaks out
It’s a very good sign that some Hollywood celebrities are starting to put their country and common sense ahead of their careers and standing up to the woke blacklisters. One such star is Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss, who not only said that the Academy’s new rules demanding a lot of “diversity and inclusion” check boxes to qualify a movie for an Oscar nomination “make me vomit,” but he also gets bonus points for saying it to a shocked PBS interviewer.
I’ve long respected Richard Dreyfuss, even though there are few political issues we agree on. He welcomed him as a guest on my old Fox News show, and he said he agreed to do it because I can have a civil conversation with someone I disagree with. Even then, he was promoting a message that America needs civics education because young people are not learning why they are so lucky to be living in this great nation. He even started a non-profit to promote the teaching of civics.
He now has a new book on that subject. Richard, if you’d like to talk about it on my TBN show, just give me a call!

Mystery Solved
The mystery of the hundreds of pounds of pasta found in the woods in New Jersey has been solved. And no, the answer is not that the Pope dines in the woods.
COMER: “Do not indict Hunter Biden until Wednesday,” There’s more...
“Wednesday will be a very big day for the American people in getting the facts presented to them so that they can know the truth.” So said Kentucky Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, on Sunday regarding the alleged influence-peddling of the Biden family, including President Biden.
The mainstream media are still managing to avoid covering the worst influence-peddling charges ever leveled against a President. And, of course, the ‘Justice’ Department won’t appoint a special counsel, no matter how obviously one is needed. Now that an IRS whistleblower has come forward to say a document proves President Biden took money in exchange for policy decisions, it’s apparently up to congressional investigators to connect the dots.
On SUNDAY MORNING FUTURES, host Maria Bartiromo played a clip of Rep. Comer from Friday saying that nine members of the Biden family had received payments from “a web of LLCs” that had received payments “from our adversaries around the world.” They take the whistleblower claim very seriously, he said, because it fits a pattern of behavior with the Bidens that shows up in their bank records. In addition to seeing that pattern, “we know the FBI has the document,” he said, adding that the Biden family received big money from the Chinese Communist Party. In other words, the entities that paid them were state-owned.
As we reported last week, the committee also sent a subpoena to FBI Director Christopher Wray to testify in person and to produce the document in question, which “describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions.”
Rep. Comer returned on Sunday with an update, announcing that his committee, in conjunction with Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, is planning a press conference this Wednesday morning to present their findings --- including evidence from that “highly credible” whistleblower --- that President Biden did participate in a quid pro quo scheme for himself and his family. (Remember that term “quid pro quo?” Democrats used to think that an unsupported allegation of it was grounds to impeach a President.)
The committee, he said, plans to disclose “many of the LLCs” and “many of the different transactions” involving the various Biden family members. These LLCs, he alleged, were set up in a very complex way to hide the sources of the payments and also to evade taxes.
Comer, who used to be the director of a bank, said there’s a term for this: money laundering. Many banks had suspected it; note the flagging of all those suspicious transactions.
“We don’t believe this was just a coincidence” to have Biden family members receiving money. “We believe this was done in exchange for something.” Of course, they’ll need evidence of that. They believe the document holds the truth, and Comer maintains he knows “100 percent” that it exists. “We’ve given the FBI until May 10 to produce that document,” he said.
This would explain why the press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday. May 10. (He says they do have a “Plan B” if the ‘Justice’ Department doesn’t comply.) The FBI should not try to charge Hunter Biden before then, he cautioned.
“My message to the Department of Justice is very loud and clear,” he said. “Do not indict Hunter Biden before Wednesday. When you have the opportunity to see the evidence that the House Oversight Committee will produce with respect to the web of LLCs, with respect to the number of adversarial countries that this family influence-peddled in, this is not just about the President’s son. This is about the entire Biden family including the President of the United States. So we believe there are a whole lot of accounts that the IRS and the DOJ don’t know about, because we don’t believe they’ve done a whole lot of digging in this, and we have.”
While the DOJ was ignoring this, Comer’s committee was using its subpoena power to gather bank documents and meeting with former Biden associates and other whistleblowers. “We know exactly what this family was doing,” he said, and what the federal investigation appears to be planning to charge Hunter with “is a slap on the wrist, a drop in the bucket” when we consider the many crimes he’s committed. The DOJ has a whole “menu” of options, he said, for prosecuting this family.
This goes right on up to the President. “We don’t believe,” Comer said, “these countries were paying the Biden family for nothing. We believe they were getting a return on their investment…”
But other than this broad statement, Comer is still tight-lipped on details, saying it’s going to come out on Wednesday at the press conference, when actual bank records will be presented. But “more and more evidence is pointing towards Joe Biden,” he said. “...This thing is much bigger than anyone ever would’ve predicted...”
………………
Postscript: We’ve long suspected that Biden’s cancellation of the China Initiative, intended to protect American intellectual property from the CCP, as one his first acts in office was part of this quid pro quo scheme. On Sunday, Comer wouldn’t say definitively that it was --- I suppose we have to wait till Wednesday? --- but he did say this: “The person he [Biden] had making the pitch to the FBI to drop the China Initiative...was the then-president of the University of Pennsylvania, who is now Biden’s appointee as ambassador to Germany. And, remember, the University of Pennsylvania was getting tens of millions of dollars from anonymous donations from China.”
……………….
RELATED NEWS: John Solomon teased a revelation of his own, this one coming out today, about the “repeating scenario” in which information comes into the DOJ about Joe and Hunter Biden by way of a “very credible emissary” and then is essentially dropped. It’s similar to what we’ve seen with the laptop in 2019 and with the current whistleblower in 2023, but this happened in 2018.

In the meantime, enjoy Michael Goodwin’s op-ed in the NEW YORK TIMES. The White House is trying to say that since the media don’t take this scandal seriously, you shouldn’t, either!
https://nypost.com/2023/05/06/
Also, law professor Jonathan Turley critiques a damage-control interview Joe Biden did --- yes, the President actually did an interview! --- with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, calling it “a vivid example of...’the art of scandal implosion,’” designed to bring down the scandal without collateral damage to the Bidens and their defenders in the media. Highly recommended.
On Sunday, Turley told FOX NEWS’ Jon Scott, “I’ve never seen anything like the Biden family. The Biden family really is in a league of its own when it comes to influence-peddling.”
