Former Trump advisor Steven Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison and a $6500 fine for contempt of Congress for his refusal to testify before the House January 6th Kangaroo Kommittee. The Biden DOJ had asked for him to receive six months and a $200,000 fine. The prosecutor said Bannon had an “interest in making a public spectacle of the committee’s hearings” and “has tried to make it about nothing but politics and retribution.”

Ironic, indeed, considering this Kommittee’s entire reason for existence was to create a public spectacle of politics and retribution. Liz Cheney let the cat out of the bag when she made it clear that the goal was to smear Donald Trump enough so that he could never run for President again.
(On a side note, the Kommittee continued that jihad by issuing a formal subpoena for Trump to testify, knowing that it would create headlines before the midterm elections but is virtually meaningless, since odds are that Republicans will take over the House and disband this disgrace of a Kommittee before Trump ever has a chance to appear. The statement again claims there’s “overwhelming evidence” that Trump orchestrated a multi-part plan to cause the riot and overturn the election, even though they’ve been claiming that for months and have yet to produce any actual evidence, even with the benefit of allowing hearsay witnesses with no cross examination and zero due process for the accused.)
Bannon’s attorneys filed an immediate appeal, and the sentence was stayed until it can be heard. In the meantime, here’s a MUST-READ article by Jeff Goldstein who argues that, no matter what you think of Trump or Bannon, you should be very alarmed that this Administration has nakedly politicized the justice system to target its political enemies or anyone who questions its dogma on anything from the 2020 election to abortion to COVID to transgenderism.
Goldstein also reminds us of the many, many, many Democrats who defied Congressional subpoenas, broke the law, lied to Congress under oath, and were held in contempt of Congress, yet were never prosecuted at all, even when Congressional Republicans requested the DOJ to prosecute them. They include former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder (who was covering up the Fast and Furious gun scandal that resulted in the deaths of US Border Agent Brian Terry and an unknown number of Mexican citizens), IRS official Lois Lerner, FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, John Brennan, James Clapper and others, who thumbed their noses at Congress and skated away to lucrative book and TV deals.
While this Kommittee and its camp followers dispense their balloon juice about the Republican “threat to democracy,” I’ve been warning for years that a real threat to our system of government is to undermine the public’s faith in the fairness and legitimacy of the justice system. Add that to the many other ways in which it’s the left that is the real threat to “our democracy” (actually, our democratic republic.)
In a related story, the Biden DOJ wants Congress to give it another $34 million of our tax money to keep investigating the January 6, 2021, riot until the end of time.
Having already arrested more than 870 people, some of them for walking through an open door on a public building, these poor public servants fret that if they don’t get millions more of our tax dollars, they’ll have to cut their budgets elsewhere to keep up all the January 6th prosecutions. It would surely be a tragedy if they had to cut their budget for railroading pro-life activists into federal prison for trying to save babies. Obviously, their budget is already so strained that they can’t investigate the firebombings of pro-life pregnancy centers at all, much less the entire summer of deadly riots caused by Antifa, BLM and other leftist groups.
Election Day can’t come fast enough.
