WNBA Star Brittney Griner released from Russian penal colony
There’s breaking good news this morning: WNBA star Brittney Griner has been released from a Russian penal colony, where she was serving a nine-year sentence after being caught with cannabis oil in her luggage during a trip to Russia. The Biden Administration is congratulating itself on arranging her safe return to the US.

Now, the bad news: to get her out, they agreed to a prisoner exchange. They’re releasing alleged Russian arms dealer Victor Bout, known as “the Merchant of Death,” who was serving 25 years for conspiracy to kill Americans as part of his support for a Colombian terrorist group.
Not exactly an even exchange, is it? Some critics are calling it a “huge win for Vladimir Putin” (wait, I thought it was only Trump who did Putin’s bidding.) In fact, one might almost suspect that Russia’s entire motive in arresting a high-profile American was just to obtain a bargaining chip to get this dangerous monster released, and that they’re now laughing at how they rolled us as other nations watch and take notes.
It might be a little more reasonable if Biden had at least gotten a 2-for-1 deal and secured the release of former Marine Paul Whelan, who’s been jailed in Russia since 2021, but he didn’t. He just got one WNBA player for the “Merchant of Death.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Ms. Griner is home safe. Maybe now she’ll actually have a little appreciation for America and the many rights Americans enjoy. But it’s hard not to ponder that if only she had acted with a bit more caution and intelligence in the first place, maybe “The Merchant of Death” wouldn't be walking around loose again.
New undercover expose video
Project Veritas released a new undercover expose video, this time featuring the dean of students at an elite private school in Chicago boasting about the blatant and disgusting way he’s exposing children to “queer sex” lessons. He calls it a “really, like, cool part of my job.” This is so vile, I’m not even going to try to describe it. I’ll just warn you before you click the link, and hope that by the time you finish reading this, he will no longer have a job, which would be really, like, cool.
A “digital picket line” of the NYT
As part of a contract dispute, about 1,000 New York Times writers are staging a 24-hour strike, led by “1619 Project” propagandist Nikole Hannah Jones. They’re also urging readers to observe a “digital picket line” by not interacting with any Times content on Thursday. For me, that would make Thursday like any other day.
If New York Times readers are forced to read other news sources for one day, I wonder if it will be like taking the red pill and suddenly realizing they’ve spent their entire lives living in a make-believe world?
“Long shot” amnesty bill
GOP Sen. Thom Tillis admitted that his amnesty bill for illegal immigrants that’s crafted with Democrat Sen. Kysten Sinema is a “long shot” for passage. For more, I’ll direct you to this link:
And here’s my commentary on Sen. Tillis’ statement: “Good!”
Schumer’s booby trap
Sen. Chuck Schumer made clear his plans to neuter the incoming GOP House by telling MSNBC that he hopes to shove a massive omnibus spending bill for the entire next year through the lame duck session. He hopes to entice enough Senate Republicans to go along with it in exchange for including defense spending. That would prevent the new Republican-led House from being able to do anything about federal spending for a full year.
Some might call that an attempt to thwart democracy by blocking the will of the voters who put Republicans in charge of the House, which is supposed to control the purse strings. Some might even call it an assault on the Constitution. Maybe even “insurrection.”
I would call it a booby trap, and warn all Republican Senators not to be big enough boobies to fall for it unless they’d like to rejoin the private sector and live in the inflation-ravaged economy that Democrats are creating.
GOP victories
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy is trumpeting a couple of victories in the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) defense bill. First, they managed to get the JCPA (Journalism Competition and Preservation Act) removed from the bill.
They also included a provision to end Biden’s irrational COVID vaccine mandate on the military.
We know now that the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection or transmission of the disease, and the mandate is harming recruitment and has punished military members, deprived them of earned benefits and even forced them out of the service. It’s as unfair and unconscionable as it is pointless. The House Judiciary GOP responded to the news by tweeting, “Re-hire all the troops kicked out of our military because of the #COVID19 vaccine mandate. Now.”
Back pay and a groveling apology are also in order.
I JUST WANTED TO SAY
