"Huckabee" Preview
Sunday is Mother’s Day, and as an early gift for all moms (and dads, kids and everyone else), I’m unwrapping a great new episode of “Huckabee” tonight on TBN! My friend and former Arkansas legal counsel and US Attorney Bud Cummins will give us an exclusive interview about the alleged cover-up of Biden family corruption, a story that he’s helped drag into the spotlight. I’ll talk with Mark Meckler, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots and president of Citizens for Self-Governance (you know you could do a better job of governing yourself than Joe Biden has.) Buttermilk Sky Pie chain founders Scott and Meredith Layton will show us how to make the world’s best apple pie (Tip: use promo code “Huckabee” for a discount on your next order.) You’ll also be astounded by super magician Mike Super. And for a big finish, music from platinum-selling country artist, Buddy Jewell!
It all rolls out tonight at 8 and 11 EST, 7 and 10 CST, and Sunday at 9 EST/8 CST on TBN. To find out how to watch TBN, from local cable and broadcast channels to streaming, visit https://www.huckabee.tv and click on “Channel Finder” on the top menu. You can stream previous episodes, highlights and online-only “Digital Exclusives,” including extended interviews, “In Case You Missed It” and “Facts of the Matter” segments, plus extra performances by our great musical and comedy guests and links to all their sites, at https://www.huckabee.tv. The situation on our Southern border
The Biden Administration is trying to downplay the situation on our Southern border, insisting that the border isn’t open and you can’t compare it to their disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, saying, “It’s not chaos down there at the border, at least not right now.” What a great feeling of reassurance it brings to know that the situation on our own border isn’t comparable to the deadly pullout from Afghanistan – at least not yet.
So many migrants with dubious asylum claims have been let into the US that they’ve created a massive backlog of cases that will allow them to stay as long as 10 years before the system even gets around to vetting them.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer called Friday for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to be impeached for his failure to act in securing the border. Emmer called the border crisis Biden’s “greatest malfeasance,” and said, “They talk about being humane. Children are disappearing. People are getting killed. You’ve got 80 people that have come across the southern border that are on the terrorist watch list.”
Meanwhile, having already tried blaming record illegal border crossings on Republicans and the Congress, Mayorkas has a new excuse: it’s the weather’s fault.
Unfortunately, as long as the Democrats hold the Senate and White House, and Mayorkas refuses to resign, we are stuck with him until Biden himself realizes how awful he is and fires him. And if he started firing everyone in this Administration who’s awful at his or her job, there’d be nobody left.
The House Judiciary Committee meets to discuss anti-Trump prosecution
I’m sure I’ll have more on this next week, but rabidly anti-Trump former federal prosecutor Mark Pomerantz finally appeared before the House Judiciary Committee Friday. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg had been fighting the subpoena, while House Republicans wanted to question Pomerantz about his open lobbying to charge Trump with something and the suspicious timing of Bragg’s twisted and overcharged case coming right after Trump announced that he was running for President again.
Well, Pomerantz finally showed up. He made a snide opening statement branding the hearing as “political theater”…and then proceeded to take the Fifth and refuse to answer any questions. You know, as professional, objective, nonpartisan prosecutors with integrity do. Rep. Darrell Issa said he had “never had a more obstructive and less cooperative witness in my over 20 years in Congress.
But as Nick Arama points out at the link, this isn’t over. Between writing a book about the case and talking about it in his opening statement, a strong argument can be made that he forfeited his Fifth Amendment right not to testify. The Republicans could go back to court and get the judge who allowed the subpoena to order him to testify, or charge him with contempt. Stay tuned.
A legal defense fund has been set up for the Marine veteran charged with manslaughter in the death of Jordan Neely. Full story here:
President Trump files an appeal
As promised, former President Trump has filed an appeal of the New York court ruling that he pay $5 million to writer E. Jean Carroll. But she’s threatening to sue him for defamation again for some of the things he said about her on CNN that make her sound like a wackjob.
https://www.westernjournal.
The problem is that a fact-check confirmed some of those wacky claims, including that she really did have a cat named after female genitalia. I’ll bet this writer never imagined that being a professional journalist would require him to do this. (Warning: very adult subject matter at the link.)
https://www.westernjournal.
While we’re on the subject of defamation lawsuits for describing people as wackjobs, Fox News is facing another defamation lawsuit, this time by Biden’s would-be “disinformation czarina” and renowned Mary Poppins fan.
https://www.westernjournal.
This is why (A.) defamation lawsuits by public figures have extremely high bars to clear, and (B.) you should never settle a defamation lawsuit if you’re not prepared to have more of them come at you out of the woodwork.
California politics
Having received the grim news that California Gov. Gavin Newsom was not, in fact, going to hand out $1.2 million checks to every black person in the state, as they recommended (and by the way, it’s not just Newsom…)
…the California Reparations Task Force has come up with another, less expensive but equally stupid recommendation:
They are demanding that the state issue a formal apology for Ronald Reagan calling a bi-racial woman a “welfare queen” during the 1976 presidential campaign. They claim this term “conjures stereotypes of single Black women as hypersexualized, aggressive, and dependent on government income with frivolous spending habits.” FYI: the woman was actually prosecuted for welfare fraud, and this was not only 47 years ago, but it was after Reagan left office in California. I seriously doubt anyone would have even remembered it if they hadn’t dragged it up.
Kat Timpf made a great observation about this task force: what is the “task” they are supposed to be accomplishing? She said she assumes they’re being paid and getting meals and other perks, and Newsom praises them lavishly, but they just come up with nonsense that nobody takes seriously. She noted that nowhere else is sitting around thinking up stuff that would be nice to do if it weren’t impossible (but it is) considered a “job.”
The task force is also demanding that the state “facilitate listening sessions that allow victims and their relatives to narrate personal experiences and recount specific injustices caused by the state of California. [These listening sessions] should inform the language of the legislature’s apology and the methods enacted by the legislature to satisfy victims.”
Devoting taxpayer-funded time to listening to people complain about anything that offends them sounds like a great fit with the new state program called “California vs. Hate,” which is actually a snitch hotline where residents can call the government to fink on their neighbors. They’re encouraged to report as a “hate incident” any comment that upsets them, such as “derogatory name-calling” (like I just called them snitches and finks) or any “hostile expression or action that may be motivated by bias against another person’s actual or perceived identity.” Yes, even “perceived identities,” so if you insult their Halloween costume, it’s a hate crime.
Criminalizing free speech and free thought and encouraging people to turn their neighbors in to the government for wrongthink: the East German secret police couldn’t have come up with something better. And Newsom claims his state has much more freedom than Texas or Florida.
All of this policing of free speech will help keep California’s government too busy to worry about solving any of the state’s actual problems that their policies created, from rampant crime to high taxes to productive residents fleeing in droves to a now THIRTY-two billion dollar deficit.
And of course, Gavin Newsom will be too busy to deal with any of that because he needs to be running for President.

Something in the water
Silicon Valley being in California, I’m starting to suspect that there’s something in the water there that makes you hostile to free speech, and that specifically makes you think that any speech you don’t like is “hate speech.” (That’s one of the many problems with “hate speech” laws: once you establish that some speech isn’t allowed, you have to decide who will determine which speech is outlawed, and that’s the beginning of tyranny.)
In one of the more outrageous recent examples of censorship, Facebook flagged as “hate speech” an op-ed on Townhall.com about Biden’s open borders and their threat to national security. What makes this especially infuriating is that the article is by retired Navy Captain Hung Cao, an immigrant who came to America as a Vietnam refugee when he was a child.
https://townhall.com/
If Facebook refuses to let you read what he wrote, I won’t. Here is the original article. Read it and see if you can spot a single hateful word. It’s a story about his love of America, the deep gratitude and patriotism of immigrants toward this great nation, the incredible obstacles they’ve overcome, and the injustice to those who waited their turn for years to let millions of people come in illegally and cut the line in front of them.
https://townhall.com/
This is yet another reminder that there’s a big difference between mindless hatred and hating things that deserve to be hated, like politically-motivated censorship.
Emergency ended
The World Health Organization announced on Thursday that after one year, it is officially ending the worldwide “monkeypox emergency.” Whew! Thank goodness our long international monkeypox nightmare is over!
So, how many of you even knew there was an official worldwide monkeypox emergency? That might be because they started calling it “m-pox” since someone thought the term “monkeypox” was offensive to…who? Monkeys?
Read the full article for a recounting of this story, to see how lust for power, political correctness, irrational hysteria, fear of speaking honesty lest someone be offended, and other hallmarks of leftist governance all came together in a tangled mess of conflicting actions and statements that made this health issue even worse.
McDonalds to pay again
Remember that infamous lawsuit from the ‘90s, where a woman sued McDonalds for her burns after she spilled their hot coffee on herself? It was their fault for serving coffee that was too hot, apparently. Well, now McDonalds is waiting to learn how much money they’ll have to pay after a jury found in favor of a plaintiff who claims Chicken McNuggets are too hot and one burned her daughter’s leg.
I suggest that McDonald’s just start serving all food and beverages at room temperature and replace Ronald McDonald with a new company mascot named Luke Warm.
Virginia Mom is threatened
Apparently, if a conservative calls a liberal wackjob a wackjob, he can be successfully sued for defamation, but leftist LGBTQ activists can publicly threaten to brutally murder parents who oppose having their agenda forced on their kids in school, and that doesn’t arouse any action from the authorities. But bonus irony points for calling for “curb-stomping” parents on the Facebook page of a group called “Loudoun Love Warriors.”
Free Speech Twitter was fun
Here’s an important message for parents of teenagers
Even in a red state like Texas, don’t assume that the public universities aren’t hotbeds of radical leftism. But if you are in those states, you should definitely ask your elected representatives why they aren’t using their Republican majorities to clean the radicals out and turn state schools back into institutions of learning rather than indoctrination?
