Wednesday, to nobody’s surprise, the House voted to impeach President Trump a second time, on grounds that he incited the violent protesters who stormed the Capitol. They were in such a rush to impeach him before he leaves office that they didn’t take time for the standard legal procedure of presenting evidence and letting him defend himself.

The vote was 232-197, with 10 Republicans joining the Democrats against Trump.

One Republican, Rep. Liz Cheney, was particularly outspoken, declaring, "The president of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing."

However, the FBI later announced that they had picked up evidence of plans for violence at the Capitol as early as January 5, the day before the attack, and they suspect some of the participants left the Trump rally early to pick up supplies and meet at the Capitol.

If so, that would mean that Trump’s speech, while it might have been irresponsible, did not incite the Capitol rioters, who planned their attack in advance and left before his speech to launch it.

This could mark the second time the Democrats rushed to judgement to impeach Trump, only to have their efforts collapse once they left the hyper-partisan House because they substituted partisan anger for solid legal evidence. This article explains how a Senate trial might not even happen.

Joe Biden seems to have cold feet about continuing this impeachment trial in the Senate, at least judging by his statement yesterday reminding Senators of “other urgent business” and his suggestion that they split their time between that and other things.

The fact is that by pulling this final rebuke of Trump, the House may have undercut Biden by handing the Senate a divisive, time-wasting responsibility (a trial to remove a President who’s already left office) just as Biden will be coming into office and wanting to fast-track his agenda. Mostly because they hope to ban Trump from running again, which it's doubtful the Senate has the power to do. It also tells us that for all their vilification of Trump, they still fear he might beat them in 2024.

Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats seem to think that they have put a real super-duper stain on Trump by impeaching him twice, but more so, they’ve stained themselves as rabid partisans and permanently devalued impeachment. Being “double-impeached” without proper procedure of evidence as he’s leaving office anyway is as hollow as Dean Wormer warning the frat boys in “Animal House” that they’re on “Double Secret Probation.”

Impeachment of a President is the most drastic of all remedies for the most serious of offenses. It’s a grave Constitutional crisis that should be undertaken with the utmost seriousness. By talking about impeaching Trump from the moment he was elected, then impeaching him over a phone call and having the Senate throw it out -- and then impeaching him again when he’s leaving office over a riot incitement charge that not only wouldn’t pass legal muster, but if it did, the people accusing him of it would be as guilty as he is -- they’ve reduced that most solemn of last-resort responsibilities to a nakedly partisan political ploy.

Want proof? A Georgia Republican Representative announced that she plans to introduce impeachment articles against Joe Biden the day after he takes office, over corruption related to China and Ukraine.

Of course, it won’t go anywhere in a Democrat House. But as satisfying as it might be for Republicans who’ve had to put up with Trump being attacked from day one – and now accused of attempting a coup by the same people who enabled the Russian Collusion attempted coup, and of inciting violent rioters by people who’ve spent the past year defending violent rioters – do we really want a banana republic-style nation where impeachment is just a meaningless political weapon that every President can expect to get hurled at him by the other party, like a mudball?

It does seem to me we have already reached a banana republic status, what with the commies in Congress trying everything in there power to advance there own things and putting off anything to advance the American people, now there is some who are even calling for children of voters of President Trump to be sent to re education camps, they are calling anybody who voted for President Trump Nazis, kkk just about anything they can, we have big tech telling people what they can and cannot say, governors and mayorscare taking away people's rights while they go about there private life's. If this is not what banana republics do then what is?

Mike: big tech , demoncrats media sources like CNN etc. Need to stop negative bashing propaganda. Their candidate entering office. All they are doing is angering, inciting violence from extremists that are not peaceful law abiding republican PRESIDENT TRUMP supporters. Their attacks, slander, threats, are not unifying. The purging censorship and pushing hard at American citizens is anti productive, anti American. NEGATIVE THREATENING MEDIA

Liz Cheney went overboard. She needs to step down as third in command as a Republican. I can't believe that she didn't see this as another baseless impeachment. She will lose votes in her next relection bid if she evens has one. These other 9 republicans might as well change there party affiliation also. All Republicans should have stuck together. The senate republicans need also to stick together against political unjustice. We are upset that nothing has been done to bring the people involved in the Russian Collusion Hoax to justice beginning with Comey. Double standards should never be allowed.

Governor, frankly speaking: A significant number of leading Republicans don´t like us people who support President Trump! In part, they not only opposed his agenda but also helped to investigate alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 elections and related matters as Rod J. Rosenstein (R-MD) appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel.

Regarding to comments made by Liz Cheney (R-WY), 3rd ranking Republican in the House, I have a question to you: An unpopular VP (I have forgotten his name) made numerous public statements alleging Iraq possessed WMDs (was the primary motivation to instigation Iraq War). Who made him accountable for all the cassualities?

BTW.: Does my memory hold me that SCOTUS stopped the recount of 2000 presidential election in Florida (as you know Sec of State Katherine Harris certified but got lack of Republican support for her Senate bid)? Who was the President who nominated so called "Conservative" John J Roberts Jr as Chief Justice of SCOTUS? Here is an excellent writing ftom Prof Jonathan Turley how he switched positions on Affordable Care Act (https://jonathanturley.org/2020/11/11/roberts-one-person-pile-up-the-chief-justice-prepares-to-take-the-bait-and-then-the-switch-on-the-aca/).

Governor, Trump’s video WAS mature and presidential and it WASN’T too little too late. He DIDN’T do anything wrong and FBI has shown that this riot was premeditated. Maybe you should your platform to notify your listeners of that. Enough of the genuflecting.

Please stop implying that Trump's speech was "irresponsible" or blaming him in any way at all for the Capitol riots. I don't want to unsubscribe from your newsletter but I'm not putting up with any Republican not supporting Trump 100%. He had NOTHING to do with that riot---NOTHING! I just left the GOP and registered as an Independent because Kevin McCarthy suggested censoring him. I'm waiting to join a new MAGA Party now. Hope springs eternal.

Start thinking about 2022. The Patriot Block Vote needs to be implemented in every state and district. This group includes Patriots all over the US. If you live in a red state and your Congressman is a swamp creature (those 10 Repubs who voted to impeach included), primary them out! The blue states have it a bit harder. Nearly all Dems are swamp creatures, so hold your nose and register as a Dem early enough to vote in the Dem primary so you can vote them out. You can switch back to Repub or Libertarian or even No Party Preference after the primary in time for the General Election. This strategy is the Patriot Block Vote #PatriotBlockVote Spread the word to your friends and family.

I don't think it was right of you to make light of the new Congresswoman's announcement to file articles of impeachment against Biden. You have to acknowledge that there is more more proof that he should be impeached (and did not win fairly) for his dealings with China and Ukraine than any reasons for President Trump's impeachment.
Of course, it won't go anywhere, but at least it will be on record. Some people are not even aware of his crimes! I admire her spunk and spine which many Republican senators do not have!!

I agree with Mr. Huckabee that President Trump's statement was irresponsible. He should have said, "Protest outside the Capitol building without violence." However, Trump should not be impeached over this, because he had no intention of any protesters becoming violent.

Guess the legislators do not have enough important work to do? Oh, like livelihoods being lost to Covid, like small businesses going under, like education in turmoil due to Covid. Suppose the government is still 'for the people'? God help us all.

I would think that Republicans would realise that the Dem o cratics are always one step ahead of us. Its time to call in an entity that deals with the gray areas of politics. We next to get ahead rather quickly. We continue to play the games by the rules, While the dem o cratics keep changing them and we let them. I also see the FBI finally came up from the basement!

Sometimes I just don’t understand where you’re coming from. They impeach us twice and you don’t want to Impeach them? The days of republicans taking the high road are long past, that is if they want to win elections. Perhaps if you would have been tougher, you would have become president...

All the talk is about the House impeaching the President twice. I wish you would add that the Senate has never convicted Him. It was nothing but Political pandering. What a waste of time and money. I've never seen such a bunch of worthless individuals who make big money doing nothing worthwhile.

Following the election we just went through, what the Democrats are doing in Congress is no surprise.

They’re drunk and giddy on power. The good of the nation is not on their agenda. Their agenda is one of huge Governement and total control of us folks out here in the country.

I have a question for you. Do you recall any or much debate during the election about our looming deb, the huge cost of illegals in this country, Social Security, the poor in our inner cities, and the many other issues facing our country?

If you did, it was not the election that I watched.

The Democrats decided it was a lot easier to destroy one man than it was to sell their agenda. I’ve talked with with many of my Democrat friends. Instead of talking about the issues they had their undies all in a bundle about Donald Trump. What a jerk he was, he lied, he was unfaithful to his wife, and the list went on and on. These ideas were delivered to me in very angry voices.

Fanning the flames of hate is a lot easier than selling a very poor product. The Democrats have used this tactic to the maximum.

The impeachments are no surprise as their one goal is to destroy Donald Trump. His reputation, His legacy, his business, and anything else positive about him.

We have a rough road ahead, but if we hang together, put our faith in God, and just fight harder then the left wingersWe can win.

I want to leave my kids and grandkids a much better country than we have now.

    God bless

Mike, I enjoyed your summary of the wasteful House impeachment vote; especially the "double secret probation" analogy. Will you please explain your statement "If so, that would mean that Trump’s speech, while it might have been irresponsible, did not incite the Capitol rioters,..." Exactly what part of President Trump's speech was "irresponsible?" I heard zero incendiary rhetoric, only the passion of a bold patriot who will not be intimidated. Is it the non-apologetic delivery by a New York businessman that offends you? Is it his "non-presidential" speaking manner that so many of us enjoy because it's not the candy coated cr*p that most politicians (except for you!) spew day in, day out? I sincerely hope you will address my question in a future newsletter. Thank you for your consideration.

Alan Dershowitz, known for his work in constitutional law stated that "impeachment trial would not be able to go ahead in the Senate once President Trump has left office". Please explain to me why Speaker Pelosi maintains that the impeachment trial of President Trump can proceed in the Senate after he leaves office January 20th. Why does Speaker Pelosi not have to abide by the Constitution?
