Townhall.com columnist Kurt Schichter polled readers on who they want to see on the Republican Presidential ticket in 2024. He expected Donald Trump to easily win, but he was surprised at the results, which aren’t scientific, but they do reflect his conservative readers: 45.7% want Trump, 50.1% want Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Schlichter ponders the meaning of those results, and he doesn’t believe it’s due to rejection of Trump. He still has strong Republican support and tremendous gratitude for what he did and the way he fought to make America great again. So why wouldn’t they want him to run again in 2024?

Some possibilities: he would be 78 years old. The left has spent years attacking him and trying to tar his reputation, and even though Republicans see through that, they’d still have to constantly fight the personal attacks while mounting a winning campaign. Or maybe they're just suffering from Trump fatigue. Trump does bring a lot of drama, while DeSantis is just as conservative, but is younger, more focused, less of a lightning rod, and is racking up a lot of conservative achievements of his own.

    TRUMP all the way! I like DeSantis, but Trump is tried and true and deserves a second term after taking all the grief while doing everything he could for We the People. MAGA!

    I think Trump will be more effective as "kingmaker" in the Republican party in 2022 than as a presidential contender in 2024. His influence will be spread far and wide instead of locked in the Oval Office. I definitely support Ron DeSantis for president as things appear right now.

    Trump’s influence is paramount in helping America First candidates get elected throughout the country. His rallies should concentrate on this, period.
    Ron DeSantis, should he decide to run for President, is exactly who we need. He is a conservative, clear thinker, and is a no-nonsense politician.
    He would draw votes from people who wouldn’t vote for Trump. Trump’s campaign message wouldn’t get out. The media would continue to use January 6 against him, and portray him as crazy.
    Trump’s message should be carried forward, but by DeSantis. His running mate choice won’t matter.

    Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for President and Trump as VP! I think that Trump did a fantastic job but was weak when dealing with the swamp for he lacked experience and it got him in a lot of trouble.

    Trump did a great job and I admire him but DeSantis has a less abrasive personality and would also do a great job, based on how he is running Florida. I prefer DeSantis for that reason but if he doesn’t run, I will vote republican.

    Trump still looks pretty healthy, and we pretty much have seen all the skeletons the Left has been able to dig up on him. DeSantis looks pretty good, but he hasn't been around (nationally) long enough for the Left to dig up all the dirt they may be able to find. Also, we don't know how he's going to react to the incessant attempts to drag him down, politically.

    Stick a fork in Trump. He's done. Had everyone convinced he was a sure WINNER. Never enforced voter reform voter ID PRIOR TO 11/3/20. 100'S of rallies to rile us all up for the biggest letdown ever. Led us into lockdown, masks, fake vaccines, killer ventilators, no law and order, no police, burning, looting, Antifa, BLM, UNFINISHED BORDER WALL. We will NEVER BE A SOCIALIST NATION! No communist collecting stimulus. DeSantis can win......add Greene to his ticket,or even Rand Paul.
