Reminder:

Today is April 15, tax deadline day. If you can’t comply in time with our bloated tax code, you can file for an automatic extension, but you have to pay what you estimate you owe now or face penalties and interest. As you write the check, try to think of it as paying for something like maintenance on the Statue of Liberty or aid to Israel and not, say, paying Joe Biden’s salary – every penny of which he keeps instead of donating it back to the government the way that “greedy” Trump who “never did anything for anyone but himself” did for his entire term in office.

Here are a few links you might want to explore after you get your taxes filed:

The website for the Fair Tax, which I endorse. It would end the IRS and encourage rather than punish productivity.

Remember

Remember being told by Democrats that all those new IRS agents they were hiring would only target the wealthy? If you believed that, you probably believed Biden’s lie that nobody making less than $400,000 a year would pay a nickel more. Well, the Wall Street Journal reports that as of summer 2023, 63% of all new tax audits targeted middle class taxpayers making less than $200,000 a year. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself:

Some massive tax increases that will be coming if America is crazy enough to reelect Joe Biden.

Finally, Mark Steyn’s “Song of the Week” feature takes a timely look at George Harrison’s Beatles classic, “Taxman.” It wasn’t just a pop star griping about having to pay his taxes. Back then, Britain’s taxes were so high that between income and property taxes, a successful musician like Harrison could find himself owing over 100% of his income to the government. Steyn also shows us how lines that seem like hyperbole (“If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street…If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet…”) are true today in the US and some blue states. Considering the top 10 percent of earners already pay 90 percent of taxes, it makes you wonder what Biden means when he claims the rich aren’t yet “paying their fair share.”
