President Trump fights back against Big Tech censorship

As promised, former President Trump launched a new website that will allow his supporters to read his entertainingly blunt, real-time commentary on people and events (on Mitt Romney being booed at the Utah GOP convention: “a stone cold loser.”) The site at https://www.donaldjtrump.com/desk allows him to bypass Twitter and Facebook, which banned him (another rich topic we’ve discussed before and will again.)
Supporters can sign up to receive notifications of new posts from Trump, but as yet, there’s no way to comment or leave posts of your own, so it’s not a new social media platform like Parler. However, Trump’s people say this is just the first step in his plans to create a free and open social media environment. In the meantime, you can “like” his posts, and better yet, share them to your Facebook and Twitter pages with a single click.
I can only imagine how fast they’re scrambling at Facebook and Twitter to figure out how they’re going to block all the millions of shared Trump posts. I’m sure they’ll try, but each one they block will just remind the person who posted it of how (illegally?) hostile they are to free speech, and create more demand for a Trump-created alternative. Don’t think for a minute that he didn’t consider that when they created the “share” buttons.
In a related story, Facebook’s Oversight Board announced Wednesday that the site's ban on Trump will remain because he “encouraged and legitimized violence.”

As noted at the link, Facebook’s Oversight Board is a group of people who get paid by Facebook and whose opinion on what speech should be allowed has no bearing on what the law requires of social media platforms. Also worth noting is that Trump never called for violence, but we now know that most of the planning of the January 6th violence at the Capitol was carried out on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram and not on Parler, which was blamed for it and got a death sentence when Amazon yanked its web service.
Bottom line: if I want truth or justice, I’m certainly not going to look for it on Facebook.
Portland officials might finally be getting serious

Saturday’s May Day demonstrations by various communist-sympathizing groups included some violence and vandalism. But maybe a little good news will come out of it, like some signs that Portland officials might finally be getting serious about holding violent leftist rioters to account after a year of them destroying and terrorizing the city with impunity.
Seven people were arrested out of 50 black-clad protesters who rioted at an ICE facility Saturday night, and the county prosecutor said they’re actually moving forward with prosecuting three of them on felony charges. Let’s hope that’s just a looooong-overdue start.
How long overdue? Check out the linked article to see the unmasked faces of these geniuses who think they should be running America and to read their rap sheets. Stare in slack-jawed amazement at how many times some of these cosplay revolutionaries have been arrested in Portland, only to be given bail, have the charges dropped or simply be turned loose the next day to go right back to rioting and menacing police again. These are charges that would have gotten any of us thrown under the jail (Nancy Pelosi would probably agree to keep Gitmo open if they’d fill it with Trump voters who were even within 5 miles of the Capitol riot.)
These are not minor charges. They include threatening police and civilians with knives and other weapons, yet they were repeatedly released on bail or simply turned loose. It’s no wonder they thought there would be no consequences for their actions: there haven’t been any before!
Be sure to check out the series of side-by-side mugshots of one felony riot suspect. There are half a dozen mugshots because he was previously arrested and released at five other riots in 2020. With the ever-changing locations of his facial scratches, it looks like a series of time-lapse photos illustrating what happens when a complete moron tries to teach himself to eat with a fork.
Far be it from me to cite a dead white male, whom we all know can’t teach us anything, but I would suggest that Portland authorities read Dostoyesky’s 1866 novel, “Crime and Punishment.” It’s about an impoverished ex-student who kills someone, thinking that he can accomplish great things by taking the victim's money. But (spoiler alert!) he ends up in Siberia.
At the very least, they should read the title. It might help them figure out that “Crime” should be followed by “Punishment.”
UPDATE: Maybe local prosecutors in Portland are finally charging a few violent leftist rioters only because the Biden Administration is making it clear that they don’t plan to enforce the law by dropping 58 of the 97 federal criminal charges brought against rioters in Portland, including assaults on officers.
Remember this when Biden and fellow Democrats try to paint Trump supporters as violent insurrectionists and kick down the doors of anyone who was even within smelling distance of the Capitol on June 6th. Violent rioting is only a crime to them when the other side does it. If it’s their radicals burning courthouses, assaulting police, and beating and threatening civilians, that’s “peaceful protest.”
Insane "progressives"

Must-Read Article: Rob Jenkins at American Thinker notes that Americans are so politically polarized that each side believes the other must be literally insane to believe what they believe.

Since conservatives tend to be more thoughtful and introspective than leftists, this accusation might have some of you wondering, “Is it possible that we’re the ones who are clinging to crazy and irrational beliefs?” So Jenkins looks into some ways to determine the nature of reality and discover what is and is not true.
Spoiler alert: We’re not the ones who are crazy. Not when the other side is arguing that men can have babies.
I would add that one of the most famous definitions of insanity is to keep trying the same thing over and over in hopes that it will eventually work. We saw how socialism worked throughout the 20th century. We saw how meddling big government/socialism lite worked during the Obama Administration. And we saw how getting the government out of the economy’s way worked during the Trump Administration. So we did the lab work, and we know what works and what doesn’t.
Now, we have a lot of people wanting to reverse Trump policies, bring back Obama policies and socialism, and along with them, every other terrible idea of the last century, from censorship to religious oppression to surveillance states to judging people by their skin color.
And what do these boosters of proven failed ideas from the past call themselves? “Progressive.”
You tell me that’s not insane.
Following up on the racial slur used against Senator Scott

UPDATE: The Texas Democratic Party county chairman who used a racial slur against Sen. Tim Scott apologized and offered his resignation after facing intense blowback. But the Lamar County Democratic Party is refusing to accept his resignation. I wonder how many of them have demanded the resignations of conservatives for saying far less offensive things? Well, at least we now know just how sincere their claims of being offended by racist comments are.
This earlier story also points out that while Twitter eventually removed a racist hashtag that leftists were using against Sen. Scott, they’re still allowing the posts that include it to remain up.
Reminder: this is the same site that banned President Trump for life.
It’s hard to imagine any other explanation for this kind of reprehensible racist rhetoric other than the left was so terrified of Scott’s positive, unifying message about America not being a nation of racists that they decided to try to prove that it is. To paraphrase the comic strip Pogo, “They have met the racists, and they are them.”
Interesting twist

Caitlyn Jenner, who is running for Governor of California if (and when, hopefully) Gavin Newsom is recalled, announced over the weekend that she opposes letting males who identify as females compete against girls in school sports.
America’s most famous transgender person, Jenner was formerly known as world record-setting Olympic decathlete Bruce Jenner, once hailed as the “world’s greatest athlete.” Jenner said, “This is a question of fairness, that’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn't fair, and we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools."
I can’t wait for the usual “woke” crowd to start lecturing Caitlyn Jenner that she doesn’t understand athletics or what it’s like being transgender. Just imagine if Jenner had decided to identify as female at 16, how many more sports records she could have set at the high school level!

Thanks for writing, Sharon. You and I both have valid points to make. You are correct in saying leftists have been working for years to make happen what we are “suddenly” seeing now. It has literally taken generations to get us here.
It’s not accurate, though, to say I blame those Trump supporters for what the “Blue Reich” is doing, as the left would have been driving the same steamroller regardless. What I do say is that the Capitol Hill protest helped their effort immeasurably.
When the protest got out of hand, it helped put gas in that steamroller. It was a gift to the left.
Social media and mainstream news continue working overtime and even engaging in censorship to maintain that Trump supporters are “domestic terrorists” who believe “The Big Lie” of election fraud. Do a search on Google or Yahoo and see what comes up. So, yes, millions of ill-informed people buy this.
Timed as it was to coincide with the change of administration, it gave Biden’s people all the excuse they needed to amp up the violations of our civil rights. By now you’ve seen my commentaries on the government teaming with Big Tech to censor and even spy on “domestic terrorists.” The FBI is cracking down, too, and we've seen how they operate with their pre-dawn raids. Of course, by “domestic terrorists,” they mean YOU AND ME –- anyone who would don the evil, racist MAGA hat. The Capitol Hill protest greased the wheels for all this.
How I wish we could all get into the Way-Back machine and go back to January 5, to warn the protesters about the future and prevent what was going to happen the following day. An unarmed woman was shot to death. And Trump was blamed and impeached on his way out of office for “inciting” it all. In contrast, a completely peaceful protest by thousands of his supporters would have had the needed effect.
Again, I don’t “blame” the protesters for what the left has done and continues to do, but the ones who let their passion interfere with their thinking made a huge mistake that I can never defend.
