Hush money trial is nothing to Bragg about
New York DA Alvin Bragg’s ridiculous hush money trial of Donald Trump got underway Monday and immediately proved to be nothing to Bragg about. Lacking any actual crime to prosecute, Bragg’s first witness was a former National Enquirer editor who reportedly paid for scandal stories about Trump, one of which involved a Playboy model who claimed to have had an affair with him. They paid for her story but never ran it.
Legal analysts were baffled by this because it has nothing to do with the charges, other than the surface similarities of an attractive woman claiming to have had an affair with Trump and getting money for a story that never went public.
Law professor Jonathan Turley said the first day’s proceedings left him in “utter disbelief.” He declared that “Trump is right. I mean, this is an embarrassment.” He said the first witness was “telling” in that Bragg attempted to tar Trump with an unconnected story that’s kind of similar to the case actually being pressed. He compared it to the old joke about the man searching for his lost ring on the sidewalk and telling a passerby that he dropped it across the street, but the light’s better here.
At this writing, we’re still a few hours away from the resumption of this legal circus, but you can check in for regular updates here:

Monday, a New York judge slapped down Attorney General Letitia James’ attempt to void the $175 million bond Trump put up to appeal his outrageous conviction on her bogus real estate fraud case. Let us hope this is only the beginning of her appeals court smackdowns, and that her initial victory by a biased judge who pronounced Trump guilty without even looking at the evidence will be her last.
