1. ELECTION UPDATE:
Election Update: Democrat New Jersey State Senate President Steve Sweeney is still refusing to concede to underfunded Republican truck driver Edward Durr, who currently leads him by well over 2,000 votes and has already been declared the winner.
Sweeney said last week that there were “12,000 votes found in one county,” but it’s not clear what that’s supposed to mean since there don’t appear to be anywhere near that many votes outstanding. Fortunately, this should be put to rest soon, since today is the cut-off date for mail-in votes that had to be postmarked by Election Day to arrive and be counted.
Maybe once Sweeney has no choice but to stop being a sore loser, Durr can take his place. And maybe Sweeney could take Durr’s old job as a trucker and do some real good for people for a change.
2. A BETTER WAY TO PAY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
President Biden got angry with a reporter for questioning plans to pay up to $450,000 to illegal immigrants who were separated from their children when they were detained for illegally entering the US. This is the same plan he called “garbage” before his aides informed him that it was his policy, and now it’s garbage to question it, apparently.
A survey by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) found that 63% of Americans, including 72% of swing voters, oppose “paying $450,000 for ‘psychological trauma’ to every illegal immigrant who was separated from their child when illegally entering the United States.”
I’m stunned that it isn’t higher. The poll found that 29% of voters support this plan, which makes me wonder, do illegal immigrants now comprise 29% of voters?
Who could possibly think this is a good idea? When American citizens are detained for breaking the law, do we let them take their children into whatever detention centers they’re held in? Do they not hold any responsibility for making the decision to bring their children along on a dangerous trip to break our laws?
For the record, the government benefit payment to Gold Star families who are permanently separated from a family member who dies in military service is $100,000. And we’re going to give 4-1/2 times that to people who were separated when they came here illegally?
But I hate to be so negative, so I have to pass along a great idea that I think could make everyone happy. It was reportedly suggested by “Dilbert” creator Scott Adams: just give every illegal immigrant with a grievance claim a free Hunter Biden painting.
After all, those are selling for up to $500,000. And we’ve been assured that it’s not an influence-buying scam. No, those are highly valuable works of art. So the illegal immigrants should have no trouble selling them online for a cool half mil, and it won’t cost the taxpayers a cent. Problem solved!
Hey, I’ll even kick in 50 bucks for art supplies to help save the taxpayers a billion dollars. Start swabbing paint on those canvases, Hunter!
3. NEW DEMOCRAT, NYC MAYOR WANTS TO GET BACK TO THE BASICS:
If New Yorkers are going to keep electing Democrat Mayors despite all the evidence about what happens to their city when they do, at least there are some hopeful signs that the latest Mayor-elect Eric Adams will be an improvement on socialist walking-disaster area Bill DiBlasio.
While he’s a standard “progressive” on a lot of issues, at least Adams is an ex-cop, and following Tuesday’s election rejection of far-left nuttery, he gave a sharp warning to his party’s bubble-dwelling leaders. He told them they’d better get back to basics, learn to tell the difference between peaceful protesters and bomb-throwing anarchists, and concentrate on things like picking up the garbage and arresting criminals because the people don’t want the police defunded, they want them doing their jobs. He even voiced support for respecting people’s First Amendment religious freedom rights.
The question is, does talking common sense to today’s top Democrats even work, or are they now so far removed from it that it’s like speaking Mandarin Chinese to a French poodle?
4. BIDEN'S POLL NUMBERS CONTINUE TO SINK:
President Biden’s approval rating is starting to resemble a tumble down a bottomless pit. The latest USA Today/Suffolk University poll of registered voters taken last week found that his approval/disapproval rating is 38% to 59%. That’s the lowest approval rating of any President at this point in his term, other than Donald Trump, who was the object of 24/7 attacks by the media while they constantly praise, or cover up or make excuses for, Biden. If Joe Biden got the same media treatment Trump did, his approval rating would require negative numbers.
Other findings were even more brutal for Democrats: 68% don’t want Biden to run for a second term; 66% say the country is going in the wrong direction; and only 26% believe Biden’s massive “Build Back Better” spending bill will help their families, while more believe it will hurt them. The only bright spot for Biden is that at least his approval rating is higher than that of his VP, Kamala Harris (28%.)
All that isn’t surprising to me, but here’s the big news: in the generic preference question, Republican Congressional candidates have an 8-point lead over Democrats. If the 2022 elections were held today, voters said they’d support a Republican over a Democrat by 46% to 38%.
Or as MSNBC would report that: 46% of voters are white supremacists!
Please, Democrats: just keep thinking and saying that until next November.
5. BIG BIRD THE PUSHER:
A number of conservative political figures and commentators are giving the Big Bird to “Sesame Street” for pushing COVID vaccine propaganda directly to five-year-olds.
Funny, I thought that medical decisions about five-year-olds were supposed to be made by their parents. Or is that like their education, something that parents aren’t supposed to have any say over anymore?
6. PROOF OF CORRUPTION:
Further proof that the FBI and the DOJ have been corrupted into a political hit squad: First, the headquarters of conservative watchdog group Project Veritas were raided by the FBI, who were allegedly looking for President Biden’s daughter’s stolen diary, even though PV didn’t have it and were already cooperating to help investigators find it.
Then, after the group’s founder James O’Keefe revealed this publicly (he was asked not to, to protect the integrity of the investigation, but did so after the New York Times reported it), the FBI raided his “private” home.
And guess who somehow knew about the raid and reported on it, along with a lot of incorrect hit piece commentary on Project Veritas? You guessed it: the New York Times.
John Hinderaker at the Powerline blog has more on the FBI acting as a private enforcer for the President’s family, what it means, and how it reflects worse on the FBI’s reputation than even anything in the diary does on Joe Biden.
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2021/11/the-fbi-and-the-stolen-diary.php
It’s beginning to look as if the forthcoming Republican Congress and White House won’t merely have to disband the FBI, they might have to fumigate the entire building.
7. ABBOTT HAS A BETTER IDEA:
While Biden’s “Energy Secretary” Jennifer Granholm’s plan for dealing with soaring fuel costs is to “hope” gas doesn’t get to $4 a gallon (it’s already over that in some places), Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has a more practical suggestion: Stop begging OPEC for more oil while hindering the domestic energy industry. Instead, let Texas produce it “and make America energy independent.” You know, like it was a year ago, before the self-annointed Brain Trust took over.
8. PRETTY BIG NEWS:
“Huckabee” writer Laura Ainsworth’s other job is as an award-winning retro jazz singer. Recently, Ratspack Records in Japan released an expanded, remastered CD package of her best-of vinyl LP, “Top Shelf.” This rave from Geoff Wilbur’s Music Blog was the site’s most-viewed review last week. Let’s see if we can keep that going for another week! (Sneak preview: It calls her “a brilliant interpreter of song” with “gossamer phrasing” and “one of the most talented and entertaining vocalists – of any genre or era – on the music scene today!”)

By the way, if you love traditional “Great American Songbook” lounge jazz, or have someone on your Christmas gift list who does, you can find all of Laura’s music here:

It’s the only place outside Japan to get the “Top Shelf” import CD that includes a 16-page color booklet on her growing up as the daughter of sax/clarinet master Billy Ainsworth, who played with Tommy Dorsey, Tex Beneke, Freddy Martin and other great big band leaders, and in showrooms behind legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
