Tragic weekend of shootings
It was a tragic weekend around the nation, and I hope you will join me in praying for the victims of several mass shootings. The one that dominated the news was at a supermarket in Buffalo, but a gunfight also broke out at a flea market in Houston, leaving two dead and three injured (police believe they were all participants and no bystanders were injured.)

In Laguna Woods, California, at this writing, one person has died and five were injured, four critically, after a gunman described as an Asian man in his 60s opened fire in a church filled with Taiwanese worshippers. Heroic church members tackled the gunman, disarmed him and hogtied him with extension cords until police arrived.
And of course, the worst attack came at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York, where a body-armor-clad 18-year-old (it is our long time policy not to name people who seek fame by killing others) “allegedly” started shooting shoppers, killing 10 people and wounding three others. Eleven of the victims were black and two white, and it was believed to be a racially-motivated attack and will be prosecuted as a hate crime. One of the victims was retired police officer Aaron Salter, who is being hailed as a hero after he engaged the shooter and was killed trying to stop him. The shooter reportedly live-streamed his attack on TikTok.
He also allegedly had plans to continue his killing spree if he had escaped the supermarket.

The teenager was the subject of a police investigation last year for allegedly threatening a violent attack. He was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, but he was a minor, so he wasn’t charged with a crime and was released.
As has become a disgusting cliché after these attacks, before anything was known for sure or the victims even identified, some people rushed to use the tragedy to score cheap political points. Even people as well-known as former Obama press secretary Joe Lockhart took to Twitter to claim that the killer was a rightwing white supremacist influenced by Fox News and Tucker Carlson, whom he claimed had “blood on their hands.” Others piled on, blaming Fox, Carlson, and conservatives in general; or blaming the guns and calling for more gun control laws; or blaming social media “disinformation” and calling for more censorship of free speech.
No matter what the problem, you can always count on some people to conveniently find a way to blame it on whatever they already disagree with.
Inconveniently for them, it appears that the shooter’s “manifesto” and his social media posts never mentioned Tucker Carlson. The only reference to Fox News unearthed so far is an Anti-Semitic meme attacking Fox for having too many Jewish people on staff. The shooter claims he was radicalized on the Internet while he was bored during the COVID school shutdowns (odd, I don’t see anyone blaming those for the killings.) He does seem to be a radical racist and anti-Semite, but not a Republican or conservative. In fact, he describes himself as an “authoritarian left-winger” who hates Christianity and is interested in “green nationalism.” And I assume those who blamed his actions on Fox News are the same Twitter "blue checks" that our Disinformation Czarina wants to let edit everyone else's tweets for accuracy.
But I refuse to blame his murders on greens or leftists. If we’re ever going to end these shocking crimes, we need to stop exploiting them for cynical political purposes and focus on what liberals like to call the “root causes.” But they won’t like hearing what those causes are. Mass murder, racism, anti-Semitism, hatred of Christians, a willingness to commit atrocities for fame: all these things have the same root cause, and it’s not Fox News, free speech or inanimate objects like guns. They are caused by the fact that there is evil in the world, and our society has turned its back on God and His unchanging moral laws and refuses to fight evil or even acknowledge it. Instead, the elites mock those who do.
Yes, there are horrible, hateful comments on the Internet, but the real issue is: why are there so many people who write those comments? Because too many people have abandoned their responsibility to teach children God’s moral laws, that every life is sacred, and to do the fulltime job of raising them properly. From video games to movies and TV to political activism, kids get 24/7 messages that material wealth and fame are what’s really important and other people’s lives are expendable.
Police interviewing the shooter’s parents say they are shocked and devastated. I’m sure they are, and I feel terrible for them, but how did they not know their son was headed down this path when he left enough clues that a blind pig could’ve followed him? He was investigated a year ago for making threats, but police released him and did nothing, and apparently, nobody else did either. He just kept on posting his disturbing, poisonous thoughts before the entire world on the Internet. It was most likely a cry for attention, but nobody paid any. Well, they’re paying attention to him now, so he finally got what he wanted.
How many more times will we have to hear everyone close to a mass shooter ask, “How did he grow up into such a cold, unfeeling monster with no regard for the sanctity of life?” when the answer is always the same: It happened because nobody around him was paying attention or leading him in the right direction, away from evil and toward the word of God.
Hair-on-fire hysteria over the Supreme Court is starting to backfire
Does anyone else get the feeling that all the hair-on-fire hysteria over the Supreme Court likely overturning Roe v. Wade is already starting to backfire on the Democrats? They were so desperate for anything to fire up their base and save them from electoral Armageddon that they did what they always do: they gave in to passionate emotions and ran way too far with it. Now, I sense that the public, already fed up with leftist rioters, cancel culture and Internet crybullies, is quickly turning against them.
As examples of the going-too-far craziness, Hillary Clinton was on CNN Sunday, claiming that the Supreme Court was somehow attacking “our freedoms” by returning the decision on abortion to the people instead of unelected judges.

And Dana Milbank in the Washington Post actually compared the overturning of Roe to the 9/11 attacks. You could make a more accurate comparison of 9/11 to Roe itself, since they both resulted in the mass slaughter of innocents.

To show how this is going over with the public like a lead balloon, a Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group survey found that 75.8% of Americans disapprove of protests at Justices’ homes, and only 15.9% think that’s appropriate.
Pollster Scott Rasmussen reports that 77% of Americans think that overturning Roe would make abortion illegal in the US. But when asked in a way that’s not partisan or leading, 65% said they think abortion laws should be set by the people and their elected representatives, while only 18% think the courts should decide. That means that two-thirds of Americans agree with what overturning Roe would really mean, but most of them just haven’t realized it yet.

I’ve been trying to educate people for years about what overturning Roe would actually mean, but the Democrats and the media put out so much “disinformation” on this subject that it’s hard to overcome. (Attention, Disinformation Czarina! Here’s another job for you!)
If Roe is overturned, all the current “OUTRAGE!” is shown to have been groundless hysteria, and the public gradually realizes that the actual results are what 65% of people wanted, it’s not going to make the Democrats look like the kind of people who should be in charge of anything.
A new NBC News poll taken at the height of the leaked Roe ruling insanity found that only 10% of Americans rank abortion as the most important issue. They’re far more concerned with the cost of living, jobs and the economy, and voter integrity. Immigration and border security came in close behind abortion. None of those issues are positive for the Democrats.
That same poll found Biden’s approval sinking to 39%, and 75% of Americans saying the nation is moving in the wrong direction, with only 16% saying it’s going in the right direction. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I can't believe that screaming in the streets, lying to people about abortion and trying to legalize it up to the moment of birth will convince many voters that the Dems are going in the right direction now.
Recession Warning
Lloyd Blankfein, the senior chairman of Goldman Sachs, was on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, where he warned Americans to be prepared for a possible recession.

He says some things that are worth hearing, and that our leaders certainly need to hear, like that “too much stimulus” was one of the driving forces of inflation, a basic economic fact that the White House continues to deny. I don’t agree with everything he says (for instance, I don’t think recognizing that there was too much pandemic spending is something seen only in “hindsight,” since I was warning against it before it happened.) But there is some good food for thought.
It’s also worth pointing out that even the CBS News host admitted that saying there’s 8.3% inflation doesn’t describe reality for consumers when gas is “up 44%, eggs 23%…hotel prices 23%...airlines over 30(%)…”
And that’s only the beginning. Last week, the Labor Department reported that the producer price index in April was up by 11% from the previous year. That sounds low compared to the rise in, say, egg prices. But that’s inflation on the wholesale level, which means more price increases that are in the pipeline and headed toward consumers.
Blankfein warned Americans to brace for recession but said it’s not yet “baked into the cake.” I'm afraid that by the time the cake is baked, nobody will be able to afford to buy a slice.
Ending on a funny
Dr. Anthony Fauci announced that if Donald Trump is reelected President, Fauci would not serve again. So if you were looking for another reason to vote for Trump…

I think it’s hilarious that he has a big enough ego to imagine that if Trump were elected, he would actually be asked to serve again!
