Hats Off to this interviewer
Hats off to Irish news interviewer David McCullagh for giving our media a lesson in how to deal with a subject who’s clearly lying to their faces. This article about his interview with Russia’s ambassador to Ireland contains some good background on the Ukraine-Russia conflict, but is also a primer on Russia's phony rationalizations for the invasion and how to destroy them live on air.
Here’s an excerpt that’s a textbook example of a lying government official caught dead to rights: The Russian ambassador claims the invasion was “not our choice.” McCullagh fires back, “Your forces have invaded a sovereign nation. It absolutely was your choice.”
“Well, it was not our preferable choice…”
The Backlash Begins
As expected, President Biden’s nominee for the Supreme Court, DC Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, is already sparking backlash. Biden could have named South Carolina Judge Michelle Childs, who had enough bipartisan support to avoid a Senate confirmation battle, but instead, he yielded once again to his leftist activist wing and named Jackson, yet another member of the Harvard/Yale liberal judicial clique.
For her tendency to legislate from the bench, Jackson is being described as a “politician in robes” who rules more by her personal political views than on the law or the Constitution. Legal analysts pointed out that she has a record of making decisions that are reversed even by the left-leaning DC Appeals Court because of judicial overreach. Look for those cases to come up during the confirmation hearing, as well as her history as a defense lawyer for Gitmo terrorist detainees.
Then there’s the question of experience. Law professor Jonathan Turley noted that she was appointed to the DC Appeals Court just last year and has authored only a single decision that just came out this week (it was pro-union.)
One other problem that bothers me isn’t her fault, but it’s a result of Biden announcing in advance that he would only consider a black woman. He now has to convince us that his nominee is the most qualified person for the job when he’d already ruled out an entire gender and all other races. If he’d just chosen someone like Judge Childs, who has bipartisan support and an impressive resume, including 12 years on the South Carolina District Court, that would be a lot easier to believe.
Instead, we now have headlines like this, from the front page of the Dallas Morning News, but since it’s a syndicated L.A. Times story I assume it’s repeated all over: “Biden Names Black Woman as Justice Pick.” Even though we now know her name, it’s not even used; her identity is reduced solely to her race and gender. What should be the greatest honor of her career is tainted with a backhanded insult that implies her nomination was due to box-checking identity politics instead of merit. I know everyone is doing it these days, but this may be the first time I’ve actually been offended on someone one’s behalf.
If a real liberal…or even a professional journalist…had written that headline, it would have read “Biden nominates DC Court Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS,” and down in the article, we would have learned that if confirmed, she would be the first black female Justice. It’s hard to convince the public that Biden chose the best of all possible candidates when you put the virtue signaling right there in the headline.
Unbelievable
According to Nancy Pelosi and California Rep. Barbara Lee, Republican opposition to the Democrats’ bill to take over and federalize elections is an “assault on democracy” equivalent to Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. No, I'm not making this up.
Lee also claimed that Republicans are trying to bring back the days of Jim Crow and enslavement. Which is weird, since those are both Democratic institutions that Republicans fought to end. In fact, the Republican Party was founded to make Democrats give up their slaves, and a Republican President had to fight a Civil War to make them do it.
Just passing that history lesson along in case you’re ever tempted to take anything Nancy Pelosi or any other House Democrat says seriously.
Border War
There have been a lot of sarcastic jokes over the past few weeks about how President Biden thinks it’s a crisis that Ukraine’s border is being invaded, but he couldn’t care less about ours. As if to prove those aren’t really jokes, the Biden Administration is actually soliciting border protection employees to volunteer to go to Poland to help facilitate the entry of waves of Ukrainian refugees.
It might sound infuriating that as porous as our border is, they want to pull even more border security workers off the job and send them to the other side of the world. But to be fair, who has more experience at ushering huge mobs of foreigners across the border as quickly as possible than our Border Patrol agents under Joe Biden?
Racist Math
If you have a Microsoft Windows computer, a calculator is included in the accessories. But you might not want to rely on it after you read this story about how the Bill Gates Foundation gave $1 million to an organization that’s fighting to bring “anti-racism” to mathematics programs. They believe that archaic math concepts like focusing on getting the “right” answer are white supremacy. They want to replace mathematics with “ethnomathematics.”

I won’t even quote it because I really want you to read it all and be amazed that anyone could be serious about something this idiotic. It’s the perfect example of Orwell’s dictum that some ideas are so absurd that only a self-styled “intellectual” could believe them.
I don’t know who should feel more insulted by this: minority math students or everybody’s intelligence. I do know, though, that I wouldn’t rely on a Microsoft calculator in the future. I might ask it, “What’s 642 times 23?” and its answer would be, “If you care, you’re a racist!”
Tough Choice
I’m proud to report that Sarah Huckabee Sanders qualified this week to be on the ballot for the Arkansas Governors’ race. So did Elvis Presley, who hopes to be counted as a write-in candidate. This may be a tough choice. I DO love Elvis…
No, I’m just joking. It’s not THAT Elvis Presley. It’s a Star City man whose name has appeared on the ballot before. Of course, the real Elvis Presley is dead.
Or is he?... I might have to look into this some more and get back to you.
How to Help Ukraine
If you would like to help the men, women and children of Ukraine who have been forced to flee their homes to escape the Russian attack, Fox News has information on three vetted charities that are rushing aid to the refugees:

Prof. Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit also has a suggestion sent along by a friend: the US should offer to take in up to a million Ukrainian refugees. He says that since Eastern Europeans vote overwhelmingly rightwing, it would be interesting to see the Democrats suddenly turn on a dime and argue that America just can’t accept any more immigrants and refugees.
