Friday morning, just as we were about to go “to press,” the Supreme Court finally released its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, and just as the leaked draft suggested, it does overturn Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, sending the issue of abortion's legality back to the states.

Surprisingly, it was not as close as some believed, with even Justice Roberts concurring. However, Roberts wrote a separate opinion agreeing that Roe’s viability line “never made any sense,” but saying he would have taken a “more measured course.” Instead of overturning Roe, he would have continued recognizing a right to abortion that extends “far enough to ensure a reasonable opportunity to choose, but need not extend any further.” In short, he would have continued to micromanage an issue that the Court had no right to be involved in at all.

It’s a great day for the pro-life movement, which has worked tirelessly for nearly 50 years to not only save the lives of babies and help pregnant women choose life, but to win hearts and minds, and convince people what an obviously bad and unfounded ruling Roe has always been. While I don’t kid myself that radical pro-abortionists will bother to read what Justice Alito wrote, as he carefully explained why the original decision was wrongly decided, I hope that anyone on the fence will at least read it with an open mind.

And if they can’t bring themselves to agree with pro-life Christians, then agree with the radical pro-abortion activists who, upon reading the leaked document, screamed that a bunch of unelected judges shouldn’t have the power to make decisions for the entire public about such a personal issue as abortion. This Court completely agreed, which is why they overturned a ruling that did precisely that and sent the issue back to the elected representatives of the people.

For 50 years, pro-life leaders have articulated sound reasonable opinions about why abortion should never be an answer to an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy. But, who is listening? It seems like the air is full of intense emotions which makes reasoning difficult.

In 1983, I wanted to do something to respond to the abortion issue. I began by interviewing everyone in NH that i could find who was doing anything in the pro-life arena. Politicians, activists, march and event leaders, sidewalk counselors, lobbyist ... and in the end one thing was clear ... they were ALL angry. They were angry at failed laws, at judges, at elected officials. They were angry at doctors and women and boyfriends. They were angry at each other for not fixing the problem yet.

I thought ... whatever I will do to respond to this heartbreaking issue, I can't do it in anger. We then decided to begin pregnancy centers in Manchester and Nashua NH. Then 13 in Romania where the post communist abortion rate was more than 80%. We rallied to church to do what they do best .. to offer help, and love and support... to extend forgiveness and restoration ... to provide homes and resources and everything from baby clothes to finding jobs for the parents.

More then 40K appointments have happened at these centers with thousands of babies being given the chance to life.

This issue is so charged with emotion. So many are enraged because they have had an abortion and the decision of the court now makes them face their decision and they are pushing back because of guilt or fear. Anger is often covering regret and grief.

If we hope to make abortion unthinkable, we must respond with the opposite spirit and recognize the pain that has come from 60+ lost lives. If we can bring healing to these women who have had such a deep loss, we can begin to build a culture of life.

Thank you for reading my comment.

It's about time!! Looks like common sense prevails in this instance. The Highest Court had no business being involved in this issue in the first place. A lot of people are mad about this decision but I don't understand why. It's probably because they don't understand. Can I ask a question?
What is the difference between killing a conscious baby in the womb and killing those kids in Rob Elementary? If you can answer that for me that would be appreciated.

The pro-abortionists completely ignore the many ways a woman can prevent a pregnancy!! In 1964 there wasn’t anything a person could do to keep from it but to abstain! Abortion is an obsolete and barbaric way to do this! People need to take responsibility for their behavior and be prepared! Men as well! So all the screaming is just theatre and trantrums!!!

I agree with you. However, it’s a shame that states like NY, California, NJ and many others that have a democrat Governor will overrule the will of other citizens in smaller cities and villages that think otherwise of the laws they have subjected all of the population in their state. I see corruption in these states. Unfortunately. BTW, I live in NY so I see it.
